My Wife Might Be a Saintess
Chapter 628 - 627: The Impaled Chi Xue Child
Chapter 628: Chapter 627: The Impaled Chi Xue Child
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator had the Nightmare Space, but its use was restricted to living beings.
The ideal targets for the Nightmare Space were beings with normal thought processes; those without sufficient cognitive ability couldn’t be connected to it.
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator had already tried. Besides Blade Master Hai Bian and Chi Xue Child, there were no other suitable beings nearby.
Hiding inside the Nightmare Space was also out of the question. Anyone strong enough could simply crush it outright.
Besides, those plants could follow him right in.
Otherwise, with his skills, he wouldn’t have been reduced to running here begging to team up.
He would have come here to do business long ago.
After all, an ordinary Tier Five expert couldn’t even catch him.
The Nightmare Space was the perfect tool for escaping.
Of course, in the face of this terrifying shockwave, his Nightmare Space would absolutely shatter, leaving him to wait for death.
In short, no matter how powerful his abilities were, they were all useless here.
For now, it was best to just hunker down and figure something out.
Then, the Black-robed Demon Cultivator said, "You two go negotiate with those three plants. If we all work together to block the shockwave, the six of us should have enough strength to hold it back."
Blade Master Hai Bian and Chi Xue Child nodded. It was a viable plan.
But Blade Master Hai Bian was puzzled. "Why don’t you go yourself?"
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator rolled his eyes. "Do I look like a good guy?"
’Fair enough, he doesn’t.’ He wouldn’t be very persuasive. After all, cooperation was impossible without a foundation of trust.
Then, Chi Xue Child said, "I’ll go."
Chi Xue Child walked up to the beleaguered plants. "Let’s work together to resist the next wave of this crisis."
The plants seemed to understand, but they hesitated and then gave no response.
Just then, Blade Master Hai Bian shouted, "It’s coming! We’re out of time!"
Chi Xue Child frowned and finally said, "Fine, don’t cooperate. We’ll stand in front of you, but don’t you dare cause any trouble."
’This was the only way.’ If the plants decided to act up at the critical moment, they would all die.
Chi Xue Child shrugged. "No luck."
Then he asked Chen Yi’s group, "How are things on your end?"
Xiao Xiaomo replied, "Just hold off this wave, and we should be fine."
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator and Blade Master Hai Bian felt resigned but said nothing.
’This is a matter of life and death. We have no choice but to face it head-on.’
Blade Master Hai Bian stood in the center, the Purification Bead and Curse Bead spinning around him. His entire body radiated a golden, Buddhist light.
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator and Chi Xue Child flanked him. When it came to Defense, Blade Master Hai Bian was naturally the anchor.
Just then, Chi Xue Child cut his own arm, letting his blood drip onto the Red Sword.
"Here, have a nice meal," Chi Xue Child said. "Make sure you pack a punch later."
The Red Sword hummed and vibrated as if responding to him.
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator, meanwhile, took out a number of Magical Treasures. ’These were all for sale, but I have no choice but to use them now.’
Seeing Chi Xue Child’s Red Sword absorbing blood, however, the Black-robed Demon Cultivator couldn’t help but comment, "That looks like a demonic sword."
Chi Xue Child paid him no mind, raising the Red Sword. "The Red Sword is just the Red Sword. Whether it’s demonic or not depends on the person who wields it."
Chi Xue Child gripped the Red Sword, an aura of blood swirling around him as the blade resonated in harmony with him.
This was arguably Chi Xue Child’s strongest state.
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator said nothing more. He couldn’t deny it: armed with the Red Sword, Chi Xue Child was incredibly strong.
He was practically invincible among cultivators of the same tier.
Now, the three of them were ready, waiting for the shockwave to arrive.
The shockwave didn’t keep them waiting. The invisible tide of energy swept over everything, shattering trees and tearing the very earth asunder.
The energy tide came next, and in that moment, it slammed into Blade Master Hai Bian and his companions. Silent energy erupted into a deafening explosion.
BOOM!!!
Their defense held, but they were continuously forced back. They couldn’t stop it.
As they fell back, the plants retreated as well.
They seemed to be conflicted, but then, they appeared to make a decision.
Gripping his Red Sword, Chi Xue Child’s body grew fragile under the strain of resistance, blood streaming from his wounds.
Blade Master Hai Bian absorbed the brunt of the damage and was also covered in wounds.
Chi Xue Child stammered, "I... I still have the Life-Protecting Treasure my master... my master gave me. If I can’t... can’t hold on... I’ll use it."
No one knew if Chi Xue Child’s Life-Protecting Treasure could withstand the blast, so no one dared to rely on it until the very last moment.
The Black-robed Demon Cultivator could only feel resigned. ’I should have a Life-Protecting Treasure too,’ he thought, ’and a very high-level one at that.’
’But I sold it...’
"There’s still more to come," Blade Master Hai Bian said. "Hold on. We might be able to stop it."
Chi Xue Child grunted in agreement.
But the sound had barely left his lips when an enormous, sharp tree root shot out and pierced straight through his body.
As the root impaled him, Chi Xue Child suddenly felt his strength drain away.
Beside him, Blade Master Hai Bian’s pupils contracted in shock.
Neither of them could believe their eyes.
Blade Master Hai Bian shielded Chi Xue Child from the shockwave and yelled, "Chi Xue Child?!"
They glanced behind them and saw that the attackers were, shockingly, the very same plants.
But in the instant they turned, a blade of grass embedded itself in Blade Master Hai Bian’s scalp, and the flower took root on the Black-robed Demon Cultivator’s head.
The pain was expected, but what truly shocked them was the feeling of enfeeblement that followed.
’For some reason, it feels like my body’s been completely drained in an instant.’
’I regret this. We should have killed these plants first.’
But just then, Chi Xue Child, who had been weakly kneeling on the ground, suddenly shot to his feet.
He gripped his Red Sword, his blood-red aura flaring dramatically.
It was far more intense than before.
Both Blade Master Hai Bian and the Black-robed Demon Cultivator were stunned. ’Wasn’t he on the verge of death just a moment ago?’
Chi Xue Child ignored their shock. "I feel my body brimming with power," he said.
Blade Master Hai Bian was about to ask what was happening when he, too, suddenly felt his body begin to recover as a vast power welled up from within.
He also felt his body brimming with power.
The same thing was happening to the Black-robed Demon Cultivator.
The three of them exchanged bewildered glances. In the end, they joined forces and successfully repelled the shockwave.
They took almost no damage this time. However, once the wave passed, the newfound strength began to fade.
It continued to recede until they were back to normal.
None of them understood what had just happened.
Chi Xue Child pointed at the root still piercing his body. "It must be this thing’s doing. But... is it really a good idea to have this stuck in me forever?"
As if on cue, the root began to sprout branches and leaves before sinking into Chi Xue Child’s shadow and vanishing without a trace.
Although it was invisible, Chi Xue Child could still feel its presence.
Meanwhile, the blade of grass on Blade Master Hai Bian’s head went limp, hiding amongst his hair as if it had exhausted its power.
’Alright,’ they thought, ’it’s definitely these plants.’
"Let’s get out of here first. We can ask Fellow Daoist Po Xiao about this later," Blade Master Hai Bian said.
Just then, Xiao Xiaomo’s voice came through. "Okay, we’ve found it! Are you all okay over there?"
Hearing this, Chi Xue Child and the others breathed a collective sigh of relief. If they didn’t get out now, they were all going to die.
The sword in the sky looked like it was preparing to unleash one final attack.
