Chapter 112: Clash of Swords

"Golden Crescent Slash."

"Luminous Edge."

Ryker and Mira attacked for the second time with their techniques, but this time, something was different. They had both woven Sword Qi into their strikes, changing the whole nature of their attacks. The sharpness, the deadliness, the speed, everything had gone up a notch.

The golden crescent that shot from Ryker’s blade wasn’t just condensed Originat anymore. It was his will, his intent displayed through his sword. The edges of the crescent shone with a razor-sharp light, cutting through the air with a sound like tearing cloth. It was faster than before, leaving a trail of shimmering, metallic sparks behind it.

Mira’s attack was just as changed. The crescent of light that burst from her rapier was thicker, more packed with power. It glowed with a bright energy that seemed to twist the light around it, making it hard to follow with the eyes. The air around it seemed to bend, like reality itself was having trouble handling it.

The two attacks crashed into each other.

This wasn’t just a clash of energy. It was a clash of wills. Sword Qi against Sword Qi. For a moment, the arena seemed to stop. A shockwave burst from where they met, but it felt different from before. Sharper. More focused. Like a blade cutting through the air.

The students covered their eyes, but even through their fingers, they could see the bright flash, gold and silver mixed together, throwing long shadows across the coliseum.

When the light died down, Ryker and Mira were still standing. Their weapons were raised, their eyes locked. But something had changed. The air around them felt different, like the Sword Qi they had let out had left something behind.

The arena floor under them was marked with thin, razor-sharp lines, proof of just how sharp their clash had been.

The two fighters didn’t pause. They didn’t need to.

Ryker moved first. His sword cut through the air, a simple horizontal slash, no technique, no skill, just pure Sword Qi. The blade left a trail of silver light, sharp and clean.

Mira met it. Her rapier darted forward, deflecting the strike with a precise flick of her wrist. Her own Sword Qi flared briefly, golden and bright.

The blades clashed. The sound was different from before, higher pitched, like two razor-sharp edges kissing. Sparks of silver and gold flew between them, each one carrying the weight of their will.

Ryker twisted, his blade reversing direction. He aimed for her shoulder.

Mira sidestepped, her rapier tracing a tight arc that caught his blade just before it landed. The impact sent a small shockwave through the air, but neither of them backed off.

They were locked now, blades pressed against each other, their faces close.

Ryker’s eyes were cold, focused. Mira’s gaze was calm, steady.

Neither spoke.

They pushed off each other at the same time, creating distance.

Ryker’s grip on his sword shifted. He didn’t summon a rune. He didn’t gather Originat. He simply let his will flow into the blade, letting the Sword Qi do the work.

He lunged. His blade shot forward like a silver arrow, aimed at her chest.

Mira didn’t dodge. She stepped forward instead, her rapier meeting his thrust with a precise upward strike. The blades scraped against each other, sending a shower of sparks into the air.

She pivoted, her rapier slashing toward his side.

Ryker twisted, his sword coming down to block. The blades met again, the sound sharp and clean.

They broke apart, both breathing slightly harder now.

Ryker’s chest rose and fell steadily. His Sword Qi was still strong, still sharp. He hadn’t used much Originat, just enough to maintain the flow.

Mira’s expression was unchanged, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes.

They moved again.

This time, the clash was faster, more intense. Their blades danced through the air, each strike precise, each parry deliberate. Sword Qi flowed from both of them like a steady stream, sharp and dangerous.

Sparks flew with every impact. The arena floor beneath them was slowly becoming marked with thin, razor-sharp lines.

Ryker’s movements were becoming more fluid. He was finding his rhythm. His Sword Qi was settling into a natural flow, responding to his will without conscious thought.

Mira matched him strike for strike. Her rapier moved like a beam of light, quick and hard to track. Her Sword Qi was bright, almost blinding, but controlled.

They clashed again, their blades locked.

Ryker pushed forward. Mira held her ground.

For a moment, neither gave.

Then they broke apart, both stepping back at the same time.

The students watched the battle in silence. On the surface, this was just a clash of swords, two fighters exchanging blows, testing each other’s speed and strength. But it was more than that.

This was a conversation. A dialogue spoken through steel and will.

Ryker and Mira weren’t just fighting. They were defining themselves through their swords. Every strike was a statement. Every parry was a rebuttal. They were trying to prove whose sword was better, but more than that, they were trying to prove who they were.

Ryker’s blade was sharp, direct, and unyielding. It reflected his nature, decisive, focused, and relentless. He wasn’t flashy. He didn’t waste movements. Every swing had purpose.

Mira’s sword was fluid, precise, and almost ethereal. It moved like light itself, hard to pin down, harder to predict. Her style spoke of control, patience, and quiet confidence.

This wasn’t a battle of strength or speed. It was a battle of identity. Whoever broke first, whoever wavered in their conviction, would lose.

Ryker pushed forward again. His blade cut through the air, sharp and clean. Mira met it, her rapier deflecting his strike with practiced ease.

They clashed. Broke apart. Clashed again.

Ryker’s movements were becoming more aggressive. He was pressing harder, trying to force an opening. But Mira was like water, she flowed around his attacks, finding gaps, testing his defenses.

His breathing was getting heavier. His Originat was stable, but his mind was starting to cloud. She was always one step ahead. Always reading him. Always countering.

’Why can’t I land a single blow?’
