Chapter 646: Annihilating the Heaven-Burying Sect (Part 3)

  • Next Chapter

Countless gazes converged on the headquarters of the Heaven-Burying Sect. Everyone held their breath, concentrating intently. The atmosphere was stretched so taut it felt as if their very hearts had stopped.

At that moment, a black sword appeared in Zhao Huiyi’s hand. His eyes, fixed on Wen Qingye, suddenly turned sharp and fierce.

Wen Qingye and Zhao Huiyi stared each other down, and it was as if sparks were flying through the air between them.

Amidst the vast silence, an unseen hurricane seemed to rise from the ground. Neither man said a word, but their battle intent surged without limit.

Then, their figures blurred. They shot forward at the same instant, two immense currents of Primordial Qi—one gold, one gray—transforming into torrents that roared through the sky before viciously colliding in midair.

CLANG!

The deafening sound of metal striking metal echoed across the heavens. Where their blades met, a gold-and-gray shockwave rippled outward.

Zhao Huiyi felt a force as heavy as a mountain travel up his arm, making it go slightly numb from the shock. What astonished him even more was that a chip had appeared on his Low-Level Spirit Grade Yiyang Sword, right where it had clashed with Wen Qingye’s blade.

He had spent half his life and poured his very blood and sweat into forging this Spirit-Grade Magical Artifact. Yet now, against Wen Qingye’s sword, it seemed as fragile as tofu.

Their swords remained locked in midair, neither man willing to yield even half a step.

Wen Qingye’s eyes were ice-cold. With a flick of his wrist, surging Primordial Qi instantly flooded his arm, and he threw a fierce punch straight at Zhao Huiyi.

Seeing the punch coming, Zhao Huiyi neither dodged nor evaded. He met Wen Qingye’s surging fist with an open palm.

BANG!

A sound like a clap of thunder echoed out. A hurricane formed from the impact of their Primordial Qi raged wildly outwards. Nearby pavilions, gazebos, and towering trees were uprooted, then disintegrated into splinters by the terrifying force of the shockwave.

The two streams of Primordial Qi smashed against each other, colliding and crashing. This wasn’t a display of subtle Martial Arts; it was a raw clash of Laws and Primordial Qi, a sight all the more shocking and soul-stirring for its brutality.

Zhao Huiyi’s body was sent flying backward. He landed heavily on the ground, and as his feet touched down, countless cracks spread out from beneath them.

Wen Qingye also drifted back to the ground, but he was clearly in much better shape than Zhao Huiyi.

A hint of emotion flickered in Zhao Huiyi’s eyes. “Wen Qingye, your talent is truly terrifying,” he said. “I remember just a year ago, you were only at the Eighth Heaven of the Yin-Yang Realm, just beginning to make a name for yourself in the Glazed Ancient Country. I never imagined that in such a short time, you’d not only be able to fight me but even seem to have a slight upper hand.”

‘Wen Qingye!?’

The surrounding crowd had been wondering who this person was, someone so young yet able to suppress Zhao Huiyi. Now, hearing Zhao Huiyi’s words, they all turned to stare at Wen Qingye without blinking.

“So he’s Wen Qingye. His strength is just as formidable as the rumors say, and he’s so young.”

“What terrifying power! To be able to suppress Zhao Huiyi at his age…”

…

Wen Qingye held his sword in one hand and said indifferently, “Zhao Huiyi, you should know what the Heaven-Burying Sect has done. I don’t think I need to say more. I’ve heard you have a somewhat chivalrous heart, so I’ll give you one last warning. If you leave now, I won’t kill you.”

Hearing Wen Qingye’s words, a bitter smile touched Zhao Huiyi’s lips. ‘How could I not know what the Heaven-Burying Sect has done? I loathe an Evil Cult like the Heaven-Burying Sect and would wish for nothing more than to see it destroyed. To think that one day I’d end up as its helper…’

“I know, but—” Zhao Huiyi extended his arm until it was level with his shoulder. With a twist of his wrist, he spun the sword in his hand, its edge glinting with a sharp light. He took a deep breath and looked at Wen Qingye with resignation. “We each serve our own master. There’s no need to say anything more. Today, you and I must determine a victor. If you kill me today, I, Zhao Huiyi, will have not a single word of complaint. It would be a worthy death, and it would count as repaying the kindness my emperor has shown me. If I kill you, then out of respect for your peerless talent, I will personally deliver your body back to the Celestial Profound Sect in the Celestial Martial Country, allowing you to return home in death.”

Zhao Huiyi’s words were powerful and resolute, stirring the hearts of all who heard them.

Watching him, with his full head of gray hair flying wildly, everyone was deeply shaken.

Wen Qingye gave Zhao Huiyi a deep look. “I was holding back just now,” he said. “Since this is how it is, I will grant you the loyal death you seek.”

‘He was holding back!?’

‘Is that true?’

Wen Qingye’s words echoed in the hearts of the crowd, sending ripples through them.

While their thoughts were still racing, Wen Qingye’s body slowly began to float upwards. His sword emanated streams of a ghastly white aura, an extreme cold that seemed to bore into the very marrow of the onlookers’ bones.

Wen Qingye’s hair swayed in the icy wind as he walked step by step through the void toward Zhao Huiyi. With each step he took, the restless Primordial Qi in the area began to swirl around him.

The frost-white currents spun continuously, forming a massive white vortex with Wen Qingye at its center, which then began to spread toward Zhao Huiyi.

“Third Sword of the Cold Ice Sword Technique: Ice Vortex!”

Within the frost-white currents glinted sharp shards of ice, an utterly terrifying and horrifying sight.

The biting frost seemed to chill Wen Qingye’s very features. Limitless killing intent lay hidden, ready to explode from within the countless ice shards.

When Zhao Huiyi saw this technique, his expression changed drastically. His heart seemed to shrivel. He could feel his life force draining away, the sense of approaching death closing in.

Immediately, a torrent of Primordial Qi roared out from his body without cease, drawing in the ambient Primordial Qi from the heavens and earth. His gray robes whipped about loudly as he stared gravely at Wen Qingye.

The sword in his hand began to glow brightly. Zhao Huiyi gripped the hilt with both hands, took a sudden step forward, and slashed directly at the swirling ice shards.

SHINK! SHINK! SHINK!

Countless ice shards were destroyed by Zhao Huiyi’s sword, vanishing into nothing. But Zhao Huiyi didn’t stop there; he continued his thrust toward Wen Qingye.

“Condense!”

Watching the charging Zhao Huiyi, Wen Qingye remained expressionless. He raised his sword slightly, and the countless streams of icy energy around him suddenly converged, condensing and transforming into a gigantic Ice Sword.

The Ice Sword seemed to emerge from the Nine Netherworld itself. The frost it gave off was bone-chilling to the extreme, and it radiated an endless cold. Then, the Sword Body turned and charged toward Zhao Huiyi.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

The moment Zhao Huiyi’s sword touched the massive Ice Sword, his own blade began to be encased in frost, and the ice was still spreading rapidly toward his body.
