Chapter 657 The End of the Great War

Everyone gasped as they stared at Qing Yun’s mangled corpse.

A moment later, the surrounding crowd erupted like a long-dormant volcano, the deafening roar of their voices shaking the heavens.

"My heavens, Wen Qingye is terrifyingly strong!"

"This... Qing Yue and Qing Yun are dead, too?"

"Wen Qingye single-handedly killed the three great masters of Taiyi Hall. To think the Celestial Profound Sect would produce such a freak of nature."

"A freak of nature. A true freak of nature."

...

In the next moment, all eyes fell upon Wen Qingye. They were shocked beyond belief by what they had just witnessed.

After all, the three masters—Xing, Yun, and Yue—were experts of the Sixth Heaven of Life and Death Realm. For them to be slain by Wen Qingye, a cultivator at the Peak of the Third Heaven, was something everyone considered utterly impossible.

Wen Qingye took a deep breath and slowly walked over to Tu Bai and Sima Feng.

If the two of them hadn’t blocked Qing Yun’s attack for him, his own fate would have been uncertain.

Reaching them, Wen Qingye placed a finger under their noses to check for breath. A faint wisp of air brushed against his skin.

Finding that they still possessed a faint trace of life, Wen Qingye couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

’Good. They’re not dead,’ Wen Qingye thought, his tension easing.

Then, Wen Qingye slowly extended his palms toward them. A vast amount of Primordial Qi flowed out, entering and circulating throughout their bodies.

Meanwhile, Tian Youwei caught sight of Qing Yun’s corpse out of the corner of his eye, and his expression changed abruptly. He never imagined that the three great masters—Xing, Yun, and Yue—attacking in unison would not only fail to kill Wen Qingye but be killed by him instead.

Tian Youwei’s gaze drifted as he muttered to himself, "This Wen Qingye..."

The thought of retreat had already taken root in his mind.

The next moment, Tian Youwei, who had held a slight advantage, stomped his foot violently. Cracks spread across the ground as his body shot into the distance like an arrow loosed from its bow.

Before countless shocked eyes, Tian Youwei’s body transformed into a black streak of light and vanished from sight.

"He’s gone?" Luu Jing muttered numbly, watching Tian Youwei disappear.

As for Yue Mingzhu, she breathed a sudden sigh of relief when Tian Youwei vanished. Had the fight continued, she would have been defeated within the hour. At that thought, her eyes couldn’t help but turn toward Wen Qingye, who was tending to Tu Bai and Sima Feng nearby.

She knew that if they won this battle, it would be because he had been the anchor holding them steady.

Meanwhile, Luu Jing, who had been recuperating on the sidelines, could only smile bitterly as he watched Wen Qingye unleash his terrifying power and slay all three masters.

’The masters from Taiyi Hall have suffered disastrous casualties. It seems the heavens have abandoned the Heaven-Burying Sect this time.’

"Wen Qingye is too strong! No one can stop him now! Let’s run for it!"

"Run! If we don’t go now, we’ll never get another chance!"

...

The last shred of morale among the Heaven-Burying Sect members shattered completely. They scattered in a mad frenzy. When faced with the choice between life and death, these high-ranking members of the sect clearly knew which path to choose.

"Kill them! Don’t let these bastards get away!"

"That’s right! Don’t let them escape! Everyone has a duty to execute the members of the Heaven-Burying Sect!"

...

But what awaited the fleeing Heaven-Burying Sect members was not freedom, but the flash and glint of a thousand blades.

The surrounding masters all seized the opportunity, striking at the fleeing sect members with ruthless and merciless attacks.

They had long harbored deep resentment for the Heaven-Burying Sect. Now that the sect was collapsing, they were all too happy to kick them while they were down.

The sounds of slaughter shook the very heavens. High above, Guann Qingping and Yanm Yihai also sensed the turn of events below, and their hearts lurched in shock.

Yanm Yihai said in utter disbelief, "That Wen Qingye... he actually killed the three masters, Xing, Yun, and Yue?"

"We cannot let him live," Guann Qingping said, a cold glint in his eyes.

Yanm Yihai nodded, his brow furrowed. "Let’s retreat for now," he said slowly. "This Demon Beast is too powerful. If this continues, I fear it will devour us both."

A chill went down their spines. They both nodded, then split up, one heading left and the other right as they fled at top speed.

"Leaving so soon? Shouldn’t you leave something behind?" the Cold Ice Flood Dragon sneered when it saw them trying to escape.

With a twist of its massive body, it transformed into a streak of blue light and shot toward Yanm Yihai. At the same time, its enormous maw gaped open.

A wave of absolute frost, tinged with a hint of purple, emanated from the depths of the Cold Ice Flood Dragon’s throat.

WHOOSH!

A torrent of ghostly blue energy blasted from the dragon’s mouth toward Yanm Yihai.

"AH!"

Yanm Yihai felt a sudden, sharp pain in his left arm. In the next instant, an intense chill began to spread from his hand toward his heart with incredible speed, threatening to reach it in a flash.

A savage glint appeared in Yanm Yihai’s eyes. His right hand shot out and grabbed his own left arm.

RRRIP!

In a shocking display, Yanm Yihai tore his own left arm completely off. His face contorted in extreme agony, but he didn’t utter a single sound. Without looking back, he fled into the distance.

"Guann Qingping and Yanm Yihai have fled!"

Someone shouted the words, and the surrounding masters all looked up. Sure enough, they saw two figures about to vanish over the horizon.

The crowd was ecstatic. With the two powerful leaders gone, they became even more unrestrained, their attacks on the remaining Heaven-Burying Sect members growing even more vicious.

When Luu Jing saw Yanm Yihai and Guann Qingping of Taiyi Pavilion vanish as two streaks of light in the distance, the despair in his heart reached its absolute peak.

He couldn’t help but draw his saber, watching the chaotic flight of his fellow sect members. Faced with the trial of life and death, they were finally revealing the darkest side of human nature.

Just as he was about to press the blade to his own throat, he suddenly thought of someone.

The Sect Leader of the Heaven-Burying Sect—an incredibly mysterious figure.

Luu Jing muttered to himself, "I can’t die. The Heaven-Burying Sect can definitely make a comeback. I cannot die."

The members of the Heaven-Burying Sect were now in a living Purgatory. In the past, they had always been the ones doing the slaughtering; when had they ever been on the receiving end of such treatment?

Vast swathes of Heaven-Burying Sect members were cut down by the masters. These were the sect’s pillars, its core strength. If they all died here, the sect would have virtually no hope of rising from the ashes.

Meanwhile, Luu Jing’s figure slowly blended into the crowd, gradually making his way into the distance. Almost no one present noticed him.

A moment later, his figure finally disappeared into the Heaven-Burying Sect’s main headquarters.
