Naruto: I Stole Tsunade… and Became Hokage
Chapter 319: Konan: Paper Cranes Symbolize Peace and... Longing; She Is Not a Tool, but a Participant [HN]
After the heartfelt exchange at the barbecue restaurant that night, the nature of Konan’s stay in Konoha changed.
The next morning, they avoided the crowds and walked together along the Naka River.
The morning mist had yet to completely dissipate. The river flowed gently, carrying with it the fresh scent of grass and trees.
Chiya naturally took Konan’s hand. The slight coolness of her fingertips made him unconsciously tighten his grip.
Konan stiffened slightly at first, but soon relaxed.
She let him hold her hand, quietly feeling the warmth coming from his palm.
They did not say much. They simply walked together in silence, listening to the birds and watching the morning sun scatter golden light across the river, its shimmering surface reflecting the ripples in their hearts.
“I used to come here alone whenever I was tired from training. Sometimes, I’d sit on that rock for an entire afternoon.”
Chiya pointed toward a smooth boulder beside the riverbank.
Konan followed his gaze. She could almost see the younger Chiya sitting there alone, and a trace of tender pity rose in her heart.
She gently leaned toward him and whispered, “From now on… you can ask me to accompany you.”
Chiya turned his head and looked at her leaning against him. Under the sunlight, her ice blue hair seemed to glow.
His heart stirred. He reached out, wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and pulled her tightly into his embrace.
“Okay.”
It was only a simple word, but it made Konan feel completely satisfied.
Chiya glanced at the sun that had just begun to reveal its morning glow.
“How about we go get some ramen together? Do you like it?”
“Mm!~”
Konan answered softly and gently.
Seeing this, Chiya immediately took her to Ichiraku Ramen.
“Hokage-sama!”
Teuchi became extremely enthusiastic when he saw Chiya arrive.
Chiya glanced at the customers inside.
“You’re already getting business this early. Teuchi, your shop is doing pretty well!”
“Hahaha, you’re too kind, Hokage-sama!”
“…”
Watching Chiya greet Uncle Teuchi so naturally, the corners of Konan’s lips also curved upward.
When the steaming, fragrant bowls of ramen were brought over, Chiya looked toward Konan.
“Go ahead and try it. Teuchi’s ramen is one of a kind throughout the entire shinobi world!”
Konan nodded.
She imitated Chiya and awkwardly used her chopsticks to pick up some noodles. She blew on them before carefully putting them into her mouth.
The rich broth and chewy noodles instantly won over her taste buds.
Her eyes lit up.
“Mm! It’s delicious!”
Seeing her cheeks slightly flushed from the steam and the satisfied expression on her face, Chiya naturally picked a piece of chashu from his own bowl and placed it in hers.
“Eat more. You’re too thin.”
Konan looked at the extra piece of chashu in her bowl, her heart filling with sweetness.
She followed his example and scooped half of her soft boiled egg into his bowl.
“You… you should eat too.”
The simple and intimate interaction made the atmosphere between them increasingly warm. It was as though they had returned to the age when their hearts had first begun to stir. Every exchanged glance and every accidental touch carried a faint, electrifying sensation and an indescribable joy.
After finishing their ramen, the two went to Konoha’s shopping district.
Konan showed a strong interest in all kinds of novel things, especially the exquisite origami.
She stopped for a long while in front of one small stall, watching the vendor skillfully turn colored paper into all kinds of lifelike little animals.
Seeing this, Chiya immediately bought an entire set of colored paper and origami instructions.
“This is for you.”
He smiled and handed the package to her.
“I know this is what you’re best at.”
Konan accepted the package, and a gentle smile spread through her ice blue eyes.
She picked up a sheet of light blue paper and moved her fingers skillfully. Before long, a delicate and lifelike paper crane appeared in her palm.
She gently placed the paper crane in Chiya’s hand.
“Here. It’s for you. In the Land of Rain, paper cranes also symbolize peace and… longing.”
Chiya carefully supported the light paper crane in his palm. He looked at her with a deep and focused gaze.
“I’ll treasure it.”
Under the sunlight, his handsome features carried an unmistakable warmth.
Konan felt her cheeks grow hot and her heart pound like a drum. She hurriedly looked away, but she could not hide the smile that kept spreading across her lips.
This pure and beautiful time together completely captivated her.
She did not care how much she could have. She only treasured the warmth in her palm at this moment and the overflowing emotions stirring within her heart.
Being a special presence in his heart…
Sharing these ordinary yet warm moments with him.
To her, that was the most beautiful thing in the world.
…
At the same time, a completely different scene was unfolding on the training ground in the Uchiha Clan district.
“Pay attention to the angle when throwing the shuriken! Keep your wrist steady and put your strength into the throw accurately!”
“With the Great Fireball Jutsu, concentrate the Fire Style chakra in your throat and control the amount. Bigger doesn’t always mean better!”
“The most important thing in your training right now is understanding! Watch my movements carefully!”
“…”
Uchiha Hikari and Uchiha Izumi stood among a group of young Uchiha children, seriously instructing them.
This was already one of countless times they had taken on the task of teaching the younger ninja within the clan.
The children were still young, but every one of them had bright eyes and trained with complete seriousness.
Some practiced precise shuriken throws. Others were attempting to gather faint Fire Style chakra, struggling to imitate the movements demonstrated by Hikari.
Looking at these young seedlings growing up under the peaceful sunlight, Uchiha Hikari felt deeply moved.
She stopped her demonstration and walked to the side of the training ground, picking up a water bottle and taking a sip.
Izumi also walked over, wiping the fine sweat from her forehead as she smiled and asked, “Sister Hikari, are you tired?”
Hikari shook her head. Her gaze remained fixed on the children who were training hard, and her voice carried a mixture of relief and complicated emotions.
“I’m not tired. It’s just that… whenever I look at them, I can’t help remembering my own childhood.”
Izumi followed her gaze, and a trace of sadness appeared in her eyes.
“Training must have been much harder in your time, Sister Hikari. And you also had to worry about whether enemies would attack at any moment…”
She paused before her tone became more cheerful.
“But things are different now. With Lord Chiya here, everything is peaceful. The children only need to focus on becoming stronger.”
“Yes, peace…”
Hikari softly repeated the word, and the figure of that man appeared in her mind.
Uchiha Chiya.
There had been a time when she had suffered through pain and confusion because of the obsession in her heart.
It was Chiya who accepted her and gave her a place in this new era.
It was also him who, through extraordinary ability and foresight, led Konoha and even the entire shinobi world toward an unprecedented era of peace.
He showed her that there was another possibility for the shinobi world!~
At first, Uchiha Hikari may have simply been intimidated by Chiya’s strength.
But as time passed, she personally witnessed how he balanced the interests of the various clans within the village, how he promoted educational reforms, and how he established mutually beneficial cooperation with other shinobi villages.
Even the famously isolated Amegakure had now sent representatives seeking deeper cooperation.
The admiration for Chiya deep within her heart had long since gathered like a small stream into a deep lake.
He possessed not only the power to overturn the world, but also the wisdom and open heart needed to build a better one.
He allowed the Uchiha Clan to stop shrinking into a corner and immersing themselves in hatred and obsession.
Instead, they could openly walk beneath the sunlight and use their strength for protection and inheritance.
“You’re right, Izumi.”
Hikari turned toward the girl beside her, a relieved and determined smile appearing on her face.
“Being able to live in the era Chiya created is a blessing. I used to be obsessed with the past, but I overlooked the light truly worth following that was right in front of me.”
She clenched her fist, her eyes clear and determined.
“Now, I’ve found a new direction. Protecting this hard earned peace, passing the Uchiha’s flame and will on to the next generation, and watching these children grow up healthy, happy, and strong… perhaps that is the meaning of my existence now. It is also the most meaningful thing I can imagine doing.”
Izumi was genuinely happy to see the hope return to Hikari’s eyes.
“Sister Hikari, I’m so glad you can think this way! If Lord Chiya knew, he would definitely be happy too!”
Hikari smiled.
Her gaze once again fell upon the energetic little figures on the training ground, and her heart became peaceful and fulfilled.
The shadows of the past gradually faded away, while the road ahead became clear and filled with light.
She was grateful to the man who had freed her from the restraints of time and space, and she admired him even more for everything he had accomplished as Hokage.
Peace was not something that should simply be taken for granted.
It was that man who had used his strength and wisdom to hold up a sky beneath which everyone could breathe freely and grow without fear.
And Uchiha Hikari was willing to become one ray of sunlight beneath that sky, protecting the new sprouts.
The children’s youthful voices rang across the training ground, filled with strength despite their young age. They blended with the bustle of Konoha outside the clan district, creating a peaceful melody full of hope and vitality.
The stone in Hikari’s heart had finally been set down.
She was not a tool, but a participant…
Peace, those two words that had once seemed so distant and unattainable…
Had now been realized through Chiya’s efforts!
All that remained was to protect this peaceful world!
The road of protection was filled with challenges.
She would face them head on.
The path she had chosen was already filled with meaning in her own heart.
And she would walk it with unwavering determination.
“…Is this the true light I have been pursuing all this time?”
