Chapter 506 - 402 : The Crack Widens!!

  • Next Chapter

The crack grew while they watched.

Not fast. Not the violent tearing the seam had done before, back when it still had drama left in it. This was patient. Deliberate. A single hairline seam of ash-red spreading across the concrete the way frost spreads across a window — slow enough to track, too steady to stop.

None of them had moved from their positions since it started. Six hours of vigil had trained a certain stillness into all of them, and even now, with the wall doing something it hadn’t done since Ch. 398, that stillness held — everyone waiting to see if the crack would stop the way the double-pulse had stopped, a single strange event with no follow-through. It didn’t stop.

"Ideas," Danzo said. His cane hadn’t moved from its ready position in three minutes. "Now would be good."

"We don’t provoke it," Orochimaru said. "We don’t touch it. We watch."

"We tried watching for six hours and got nothing," Danzo said. "Now it’s moving on its own timeline. Watching stopped being a strategy the second it stopped waiting for us."

Kushina’s chains had gathered in loose coils around both wrists, not deployed, just present — the specific readiness Kagetsu had learned to recognize as I am one decision away from this becoming a fight. "Kagetsu. Talk to me. What do you feel."

Kagetsu had both hands pressed flat against his own chest, eyes half-closed, trying to hold two threads of attention at once — the crack outside, and the two fragments inside. "Fragment A is pulling back. Hard. Like it’s trying to get as far from the crack as the space in here allows."

"And Fragment B?"

"Fragment B isn’t moving at all." Kagetsu’s brow furrowed. "It’s not scared. It’s not calm either. It’s just — watching. The same way we are."

The crack reached the width of a finger. Then two.

Hiruzen stepped forward, placing himself between the group and the wall without visibly deciding to. Old instinct, older than any of them in the room except Danzo. "If this opens the way it did for the shape, we may have seconds, not minutes, to decide how we meet whatever comes through."

"Then we decide now," Orochimaru said. "Formation. Kagetsu behind me. Kushina, chains up but don’t throw first. Danzo—"

"I know my job," Danzo said. Sharp, but not unkind. Old professional habit talking, not temper.

He’d taken formation position before Orochimaru finished the sentence, cane angled low, the specific posture Kagetsu had seen exactly twice before — both times right before something in Corridor Seven tried to kill someone. Kushina noticed it too. Her jaw tightened.

The crack widened further, and this time it made a sound — not the grinding stone-on-stone Kagetsu half-expected, but something closer to a held breath finally released. A soft exhale of pressure, air moving from somewhere that hadn’t held air in years.

[Talent Card: Divergent Expression]

World: Naruto/Bleach Fusion — Colony-Linked Signature Analysis

Quality: Epic

Effect: Real-time correlation and origin-tracing of chakra/reiatsu signatures across known and unknown sources.

READ REQUESTED — EXTERNAL, SEAM-ADJACENT

Signature detected beyond the crack: single source, high stability, zero fluctuation.

Correlation to known entities: 0% match to the ultimatum-voice. 0% match to the half-formed shape. 0% match to any prior seam-adjacent read on file.

Correlation to Fragment A (internal): 97%.

Advisory: this external signature is not a new party. It is the near-total match for something already inside the subject. First confirmed instance of an internal component having an active, stable, externally-located counterpart still present beyond the threshold.

Kagetsu felt the floor tilt slightly, though nothing physically moved.

He’d had a lot of readings knock him sideways over the past hundred Chapters — zero-matches, self-matches, four-signature composites that shouldn’t have been survivable, let alone readable. This one hit differently. This wasn’t a strange number. This was a number that meant someone, or something, had been standing on the other side of that wall long before tonight, patient in a way none of them had accounted for.

"Ninety-seven percent," he said out loud, mostly so the others would hear it before he lost his nerve to say it plainly. "Whatever’s out there — it’s not coming for Fragment A. It’s the rest of it. Fragment A isn’t hiding from a stranger. It’s hiding from where it came from."

Kushina’s chains tightened audibly, the small metallic click of readiness becoming something closer to alarm. "You’re saying Fragment A is a piece that got left behind. And the piece it got left behind from just found the door."

"That’s exactly what I’m saying."

Orochimaru’s kunai were already in hand, though he hadn’t moved his stance. "Then Fragment A isn’t the thing to protect. It’s the thing that’s about to get reclaimed."

"We don’t know that," Hiruzen said, though his voice carried none of its usual certainty. "We’re reading a correlation number. We don’t know what a 97 percent match intends."

"I know what every single unprecedented number in this arc has intended so far," Danzo said. "Nothing gentle."

He wasn’t wrong, and everyone in the room knew it, even Hiruzen, whose silence in response said more than another argument would have.

The crack split fully open.

Not into the flat, dark absence the shape had crossed through. This time, light came first — pale, colorless, the specific non-color Kagetsu associated only with the deepest, oldest parts of the corridor’s architecture, older even than the wall-seal itself.

And behind the light, a shape resolved. Smaller than the smiling one had been. Simpler. No true face, the way the fragments themselves had none — just an orientation, a way of being pointed, aimed directly and unmistakably at Kagetsu’s chest.

It didn’t step through. It didn’t need to.

It reached.

Kagetsu had felt reaching before. The unfinished entity’s hand, pressed against the far side of the seal in Ch. 390, before it ever crossed. The ultimatum-voice’s attention settling over all three of his active signatures at once in Ch. 397. Even the shape itself, smiling as it fixed on him in the same Chapter. None of those had felt like this. This wasn’t attention. This was possession, already decided, already assumed — the specific, chilling certainty of something that had never once considered the possibility of being told no.

Kagetsu felt the pull immediately — not physical, not even quite chakra, but something closer to gravity deciding it had a preference. Inside him, Fragment A’s stillness broke completely; it flinched away from the pull with a violence that translated, on the outside, into Kagetsu doubling over, one hand slamming against the wall to stay upright.

"Kagetsu!" Kushina was at his side instantly, chains snapping fully taut, half a heartbeat from being thrown at a target none of them had fully identified yet.

"Don’t," Kagetsu managed through gritted teeth. "Don’t throw anything. It’s not attacking. It’s calling."

"Calling what," Orochimaru said, low and urgent, weapon steady on the light.

"Fragment A. By name." Kagetsu’s voice cracked on the last word, not from pain exactly, but from the strange vertigo of hearing something addressed by a designation he’d never once used, a designation that clearly already existed long before Ch. 400 had ever split it loose. "It’s not calling it Fragment A. It’s calling it something else. Something that already has a name."

The pull intensified. Fragment A’s resistance, inside him, began — for the first time since it had split into being — to visibly weaken.

And Fragment B, silent throughout everything, finally moved.

Not toward the light.

Toward Fragment A.

Positioning itself, deliberately, directly between its counterpart and the reaching shape beyond the crack — the first act of open protection either fragment had shown the other since the moment they’d come apart. Kagetsu felt it happen from the inside, a small internal shift that didn’t match anything Divergent Expression had a category for yet: not merging, not splitting further, just one signature placing itself bodily in front of another.

The light’s reach didn’t stop. If anything, it sharpened, refocusing now on both signatures at once, as if Fragment B’s interference had only confirmed something it already suspected.

"It’s not choosing between them anymore," the glow said quietly, through Kagetsu’s own mouth, her voice thinner than Kagetsu had ever heard it. "It just realized there are two."

The crack, fully open now, began to widen a second time — not gradually this time, but all at once, concrete peeling back like old paint stripped in a single motion.

And the shape beyond it, whatever it was, took its first physical step through.

For the first time since Ch. 398, Corridor Seven’s terminus stood fully, undeniably open again — and this time, nothing about what waited on the other side felt like it was asking permission.
