Nightmare Apostle
Chapter 2281: Incoming_2
Although Pei Yan led the retreat, as a figure of such status, he managed his emotions exceptionally well, still sitting upright and composed in the spacious back seat of the car, his face calm and eyes resolute.
Yet, no one noticed that in the palm of Pei Yan’s clenched right hand there appeared a shallow wound, faintly showing rust within it.
However, with a large influx of spiritual power, the jade ring on his hand flickered with a faint green glow. In less than half a minute, the wound ceased to deepen, and the rust was gradually covered by new flesh, healing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Once the wound completely disappeared, Pei Yan quietly took a deep breath, let it out slowly, and breathed a sigh of relief, though a fear lingered in his heart. He hadn’t anticipated the opponent’s technique to be so bizarre; despite raising the turtle shell, he still couldn’t block the attack.
As a mid-stage Nether Realm Angel Envoy, his strength was considered quite good, and just in terms of spiritual power, he surpassed both Wei Chen and Bai Wuchang. Yet, to his surprise, his opponent could easily injure him with a single strike.
“Northwest Sword Leader, truly lives up to the name…”
After confirming that the people from Bone Painting Tower and the Union had completely retreated, Mo Shasheng slowly dissipated the sword momentum. At that moment, Qu Muzhi suddenly sensed that the aura of this supreme expert weakened instantly, nearly making him unable to hold his sword.
Only now did Qu Muzhi realize that the previous mightiness had been a facade. This once-renowned Northwest Sword Leader couldn’t even control his sword now.
“Hai… Hai Hai…” Mo Shasheng began to cough violently, and terrifyingly, what he coughed up was not crimson blood, but chunks of rust stuck together.
His body had been severely backlashed, on the verge of being completely exhausted. Yet, he still came to aid, an act that filled Qu Muzhi with solemn respect.
Mo Shasheng’s face remained stern, using his rough sleeve to wipe his mouth without a word, and then he turned around, seemingly about to leave.
“Wait a moment,” Wei Chen suddenly called out.
At this moment, Qu Muzhi and the Patrol Defense Office members present felt a sudden suspension of tension. The Northwest Sword Leader Mo Shasheng was a major fugitive wanted by the General Bureau and, according to the Patrol Defense Office’s protocol, should be captured at all costs.
Though it seemed unglamorous, taking advantage of his weakness was an excellent opportunity. In his current condition, Mo Shasheng could never be a match for the Chief Wei.
Capturing him would be a significant achievement.
Mo Shasheng did not turn back, but his slightly trembling hand rested on his sword’s hilt, a habit ingrained in the top-tier swordsman.
Wei Chen reached into his pocket, produced a small pink drawstring bag, raised his hand, and tossed it toward Mo Shasheng.
As Mo Shasheng drew his sword, the tip happened to catch the bag.
“There are a few elixirs inside that might be useful to you,” Wei Chen spoke coldly. “Do not enter the city. Head north without looking back; no one will intercept you there.”
Mo Shasheng did not reply but indeed put the bag away into his embrace, then raised his eyes to glance once at the direction of Yiling City, turned around, and embarked alone on the northern path.
But before Mo Shasheng could get far, a thunderous noise erupted overhead where Wei Chen and others stood. A helicopter was speeding towards them, stirring up a storm of dust and sand.
Seemingly sensing something, Mo Shasheng also halted, lifted his head, and stared into the sky.
The next instant, the helicopter hovered dozens of meters above the crowd, the cabin door opened, and two figures leaped down.
The first landed with a dull “bang,” causing the ground to tremble violently a few times. After the yellow sand settled, a half-meter-deep pit appeared on the earth.
Standing in the pit was a tall elder, clad in an old-style Patrol Defense Office black uniform, his posture upright and eyes sharp, his mere presence exuding an overwhelming aura; he was Gu Chongshan, the Deputy Headquarters Director of the Patrol Defense Office.
Soon, the second figure landed steadily behind Gu Chongshan.
This was a woman around forty, wearing the elite standard combat uniform of the Patrol Defense Office, with a Mitsubishi Military Dagger at her waist. A half-mask covered her left face, with scars from burns faintly visible on her face.
Seeing Gu Chongshan, Wei Chen immediately stepped forward, but Gu Chongshan’s gaze never lingered on him; instead, he turned and looked about a hundred meters away, where another silhouette stood, watching him.
After five seconds of eye contact, Gu Chongshan turned back, glancing at the battle-scarred ground and the patches of humanoid rust. Without Wei Chen’s explanation, he had already pieced together seven or eight-tenths of the entire fray.
Just then, from afar in the direction of Yiling City, more people arrived, about seven or eight figures, led by Waxman Zhang.
He, too, had rushed over with people to support Chief Wei, since this was his immediate superior.
“That’s… the General Bureau’s fugitive Mo Shasheng!”
Suddenly, someone among the newcomers shouted loudly, the piercing voice breaking the scene’s calmness.
The previously somewhat harmonious atmosphere instantly turned tense and threatening. After all, Mo Shasheng was a notorious criminal on the General Bureau’s list, and everybody could sense how extremely weak he was. To pounce all at once would enable them to completely annihilate him.
However, Waxman Zhang, being an old hand in the martial world, immediately sensed something amiss, as both President Gu and Chief Wei were present on the scene, and neither chose to act against Mo Shasheng. This, in itself, was telling enough.
