Chapter 272: 272. Finding a cure for Lia – 2
5 failed attempts…
William had tried to use his blood affinity and gain control over the vyker blood, but his attempts had only worked partially, as if the blood was rejecting his will.
Each attempt left him slightly more frustrated than before, as the resistance felt unnatural. William at last succeeded in controlling the blood through varying energy. This success, however, did not come easily and required careful focus.
Right now, William suspended the Vyker blood in the air using the same.
The blood hovered steadily, held in place by his control. Then he shot a spark of stellar fire over the blood, ensuring that the intensity was higher than before. The spark was much more intense than the last one, radiating a concentrated heat.
This time, the blood reacted the same as in the last attempts and tried to devour the spark of stellar fire. The tone of the blood was aggressive.
At the beginning, William felt that the stellar fire was being swallowed by the blood, so he kept supplying the energy without hesitation. But soon, the consumption of the stellar fire stopped from its side, but William did not stop the supply.
It began swirling in panic as if it had consciousness. The blood shook erratically, almost as if it was trying to escape William’s grip.
But William did not stop. He kept supplying the stellar fire as he was trying to confirm his suspicions.
By nature, the energy-filled Vyker blood seemed hungry for sunlight, as if it had been deprived of it for a long time. From the previous attempts, William had noticed that the blood of Vykers was consuming the stellar energy like a hungry beast. The behavior was consistent and predictable.
William wanted to try to overfeed the blood and see what would change. He wanted to test the limits of this blood and observe how far it could go before reacting differently.
Soon, the blood started curdling and avoiding the stellar fire like a plague, just as William had anticipated. The shift in behavior confirmed his expectations.
“Arghhh!!! Stop!!” Suddenly, Rah’s shout sounded in William’s mind. The intensity of the voice made William react instantly. He looked towards the Vyker only to notice that he was clutching his stomach tightly.
[Host, it seems the blood of every Vyker is connected like a hive. The one you are experimenting on is a land Vyker’s blood, but Rah, being a winged Vyker, is getting affected. This could also be the result of him being half land Vyker, but still, both of these creatures are from the same Vyker species, so being a type of hive organism makes more sense.]
William heard the system and noted what he said, though he kept these topics aside to ponder later.
He wanted to observe the full extent of the reaction however, his eyes shifted to look at Lia’s body, which was now shaking violently. He noticed her fingers twitching as if in pain.
With a sigh, he let go and stopped the process.
Looking at Rah, who was clearly overwhelmed, he asked, “What were you feeling?” His tone was calm but attentive.
“It was like my blood was boiling. What did you do?” Rah asked in shock. His expression reflected genuine distress.
William looked at the shocked creature. “Did you know that the blood of all Vykers is connected like a hive??”
At his question, Rah stood stunned for a moment before he shook his head silently. His reaction showed that this was new information even for him. William turned his head with a sigh. He looked at the blood floating in front of him, now seemingly unchanged on the surface.
[Host, something has definitely changed.]
William’s brows furrowed slightly. “Are you talking about this sample of blood?” He focused his gaze more carefully.
[Yes. I advise you to store it and let the changes happen for a few days. We might find a clue.]
William nodded. He stored the blood in a vial and sealed it before placing it in his inventory.
[Do not keep it in the inventory. The state of the item is preserved there. I want you to keep it somewhere else where the changes can take place without hindering the process.]
“Sigh, fine.” William shook his head. Although he was not fully convinced, he followed the suggestion. He took out the blood and let it rest on a table inside the hut, ensuring it remained undisturbed.
William looked at Lia lying in the embrace of sunlight. The light fell softly across her body. Momentarily, he thought of making Lia rest directly under the sun. Maybe something would change for the better, like in Rah’s case.
But then again, it was like taking a shot in the dark. He was not sure about this, as he had no solid proof that it would help her instead of harming her further.
He wanted to treat Lia, but her condition was puzzling. It did not follow any clear pattern. She was becoming a Vyker slowly, yet her body and system were not supporting this transformation. That contradiction made things more complicated. That was the only conclusion he had reached for now.
There were three possible ways to cure her.
First, turn her back into a human somehow. William had no idea how to achieve this. There were no items in the shop that directly supported this approach. The only thing he had found useful was the gene alteration spell, but that was not a reliable method in his opinion. Moreover, both Rah and the system had warned against making further changes to her DNA, even if it meant reverting it to its original state.
Second, turn her into a Vyker. This idea felt extreme and unnatural to him. William had no proper method to accomplish this, and more importantly, he felt a strong sense of discomfort at the thought.
He could try the gene alteration spell, but there were risks involved in forcefully altering someone’s DNA and race. William was aware that his understanding of such processes was limited. Perhaps Grimlock could provide insights, but William preferred to keep this option as a last resort.
Third, stabilize her condition and let her remain a hybrid Vyker. This seemed like the most balanced approach. William wished he could use his Absolute Adaptation trait to help Lia, but that ability only worked for him.
He also remembered the time when he had ingested the so-called veil essence, which was actually the blood of Vykers, to adapt to it. But it turned out it was not that simple. The talent had consumed the Vyker blood instead of adapting to it. William had never fully understood why that happened.
[Try to remember the whole instance. Your talent, after consuming the Vyker blood, summoned the Unknown. The Unknown gave you chain quests, and those quests resulted in you gaining control over variance energy. If you think properly, Absolute Adaptation made you adaptable to varying energy indirectly.]
“Ahhh!! I never thought like that.” William nodded in surprise as realization set in. It was because of the Absolute Adaptation talent that he had ended up in the Flux Realm and gained supreme spirit-grade veins, along with reaching the peak of the Body Tempering stage.
“There must be a sub quest 4, right? Show me that,” William said before picking up Lia and bringing her back to the hut. His actions were quick but careful. William left the hut after that.
Behind him, Lia’s fingers were twitching lightly on the bed. On the table beside her, the teal blue blood was slowly changing its hue to violet.
William, unaware, walked out of the hut. “System, show me the next quest.”
