Chapter 454: Selling The Crocodile And Gathering Information – 2
Leo even remembered reading somewhere that this particular beast species was passive and peace-loving. In other words, it didn’t attack but instead fled from predators. Which meant the man had most likely exhausted the beast over days of pursuit before finally hunting it down once it became too tired to escape.
But.
“Why does it look so shrivelled?” Leo muttered after seeing the corpse. It looked as though all its blood and flesh had dried up, as if the corpse had been dead for weeks, if not months.
Some people gasped at the beast corpse, while others immediately began flattering the man in hopes of getting on his good side.
Behind Leo, Layla called out in a squeaky voice.
“S-Sir Leo… this man has been boasting about this particular beast corpse for 2 months whenever he gets the chance. He doesn’t even sell it. Please ignore him. Let me escort you somewhere better.”
“I guess there shouldn’t be any problem even if I bring out the beast.”
Leo ignored Layla’s words and looked around, noticing people had already created enough space around the sheep corpse for the Crocodrake’s corpse.
When the man heard Leo’s words, his ego swelled even further.
“See? You never had a beast this big. Now praise me,” he declared proudly.
The moment people looked toward Leo, who was the target of the man’s arrogance, some immediately recoiled after recognising him.
Fuck! This idiot is going to get himself killed. He only hunted a beast that big; this man has something more than double that size tamed!
Several people grimaced and instinctively stepped back upon seeing Leo about to summon the corpse.
A few who didn’t recognise Leo were about to laugh when suddenly a massive shadow swallowed their vision.
THUMP! SQUEALCH!
With a thunderous crash, the Crocodrake’s 20-meter-long corpse, tightly coiled to fit within storage, landed directly on top of the sheep corpse, crushing it into meat paste instantly.
Leo turned toward the man, who stood frozen in place with wide eyes.
“See? Not that big if I say so myself.”
He didn’t even wait for a response because several people had already fainted from the sheer aura emitted by the dead beast. He simply turned toward Layla, who herself had stumbled a few steps back, her eyes filled with dread. Even she hadn’t expected the beast to actually be this massive.
The guards soon came rushing toward the commotion and cautiously confronted Leo, their voices noticeably restrained.
“S-Sir, please… don’t scare others like this. We have special private rooms to handle matters like these. Could you please store the corpse back?”
By the end of the sentence, even the guard sounded like a mouse, as though Leo might strike him next.
Leo simply shrugged.
“That man said no big beast could fit inside a spatial storage, so I thought maybe this beast wasn’t that big,” Leo said, barely holding back his laughter as he stored the corpse away.
The guards glanced toward the man lying on his backside, his pants already wet.
“Please don’t take barking dogs seriously. Follow me, and I will take you somewhere proper.”
After that, the process went smoothly.
The total evaluation came out as follows.
Crocodrake’s Hide – 2 Million AC
Might have been higher if not damaged due to blunt trauma.
Crocodrake’s Blood – 5 Million AC
Crocodrake’s Meat – 20 Million AC
Crocodrake’s Bones – 10 Million AC
Crocodrake’s Organs (Eyes, testicles, heart, etc.) – 15 Million AC
Crocodrake’s Beastcore – 3 Million AC
Crocodrake’s Mana Crystal (Mid 4-star) – 700,000 AC
Crocodrake’s Soul Crystal – 1.5 Million AC
Leo was left dumbfounded after seeing the price list. Though one reason was the Crocodrake belonging to a draconic species, the prices were still absurd.
57.2 Million AC.
That was what a single Mid 4-star beast corpse could net him. But Leo still kept some things for himself.
He kept the Beastcore, both crystals, and the meat. The rest he sold away.
In total, he earned 32 Million AC.
Balance: 6 Million AC → 38 Million AC
He was the richest he had ever been.
The next moment, a thought suddenly crossed his mind.
“Maybe Professor wasn’t that generous after all…” he muttered, realising that earning 150 Million AC might actually be easy for somebody in the 5-star ranks.
All the while, Layla had handled the process from beginning to end. The presence of a Mid 4-star beast corpse was so suffocating for 1-star beings that her body had been trembling the entire time. By the end, another employee of considerable rank had to stabilise her by infusing aura into her body.
All that for a 0.5% commission… Leo thought, realising Layla had pushed herself so hard because of the amount she would receive. A whole 160,000 AC from Leo’s transaction was something she couldn’t even dream of earning during her entire term.
As the process finalised, Leo observed her carefully. Even though she was inherently timid, she possessed an exceptional mathematical mind; every addition and subtraction was done instantly, almost as if she were copying from somewhere.
“Should I recruit her into my territory as a receptionist?” Leo wondered. Since he would soon open his own market, a capable receptionist was necessary. For that, the academy even allowed hiring outsiders on daily wages even if they weren’t part of the territory.
Leo temporarily set aside the thought since there was still time before the market opened, and he might find even better options later.
Soon after, he walked toward the information area of the Hall to gather information regarding the Ember Family’s Secret Realm Exploration.
Leo looked around and found the general gist about the topic. Apparently, the Family had a personal secret realm that they opened every 5 years for all the interested freshers of the different academies to enter inside and get fruitous encounters. With the main goal of locating a Flame Wyvern.
The reason it only opened for freshers was because unlike many other secret realm which obstructed interference based on the strength of an individual, this one had an age limit of less than 30.
But Leo, not satisfied with this much information, opted to call Andrew. Just as he was about to message him, a new notification came.
Ting!
