“There are so many things to do, I have to be busy, right? Isn’t this just an opportunity to give you a break!” With that, Zhang Su looked at Chen Hanzhou and said, “As I promised you before, as long as you can get through this, this is yours, I’ll teach you how to use it first.”
Zhang Su demonstrated the basic operation of the USP and then handed it to Chen Hanzhou.
Chen Hanzhou held the gun with his left hand, awkwardly gesturing with it, then chuckled self-deprecatingly, “I’ll have to practice my left hand well in the future.”
“I believe you have no problem. From now on, you’ll be our team’s one-armed War God!”
Zhang Su helplessly patted Chen Hanzhou on the shoulder and said, “Rest well, I’ll go check on how they’re doing over there, it’s time for dinner, and I’ll find someone to look after you later.”
“No need, no need, Brother Su, I’m all good, no one needs to take care of me, it’d be so awkward!”
Chen Hanzhou waved his hand repeatedly while holding the pistol.
“Alright, if you need anything, just call us!”
After finishing, Zhang Su took Zheng Xinyu and Good Fortune off the vehicle and immediately informed everyone of Chen Hanzhou’s success in getting through the crisis.
This news was quite invigorating and inspiring. If Zhang Su hadn’t held them back, everyone would have wanted to see this person who got bitten by a zombie and didn’t turn!
“Don’t go and cause a ruckus now, Xiaochen is still a bit weak and resting, quickly get back to work!”
A group of people worked together, and soon they had cleared a clean area inside the factory, spacious enough for a gathering or sleeping.
“Brother Su, have you found a suitable guard post location?”
Wu Lue and Zhao Xue walked up to Zhang Su and asked.
Zhang Su shook his head, “No, why?”
Wu Lue pointed to the small door behind the factory and said, “Sister Xue and I found a Z-shaped ladder behind there that leads to the roof, but it’s a bit damaged…”
“The roof? Let’s go check it out!”
Zhang Su’s eyes lit up. A clear view is the first requirement for a guard post, and the roof is the best choice. Previously, they hadn’t had time to come around here before the incident of Pan Guihua being robbed occurred.
The three of them walked to the back of the factory, just a wall away from the uncultivated wasteland. As Wu Lue said, a Z-shaped ladder spiraled up to the roof of the ten-meter-high factory.
“This…” Zhang Su couldn’t help but twitch his mouth when he saw the ladder and pointed at the broken boards, “Is this what you meant by a bit damaged? Luezi, your ‘a bit’ and my ‘a bit’ are very different!”
The metal and wood combined ladder was built outside the factory, although it had no sunlight exposure because it was in the shadows, it had already decayed due to years of being battered by the wind and rain. It was almost impossible to see a complete step, it was probably all rotten.
“Just a tiny bit, hehe.” Wu Lue was a bit embarrassed.
Zhao Xue said, “Brother Su, it might be hard for us, but there’s definitely someone who can do it!”
“Hmm?” Zhang Su looked at Zhao Xue, realizing, “Right, Xiaopang that old rascal should be able to!”
“Who is cursing me?”
Just as Zhang Su finished speaking, Pang Dakun came around the corner of the wall, looking sullen, “Uncle, why are you cursing people behind their back?”
“Calling you an old rascal is praising your consummate skills, understand? Where have you been, what’s the situation over there?”
Zhang Su pointed, asked.
“Hehe, occupational habit, finding an exit, there’s a small road outside the wall leading to Panggezhuang, it looks pretty good.”
Pang Dakun scratched his head, a little embarrassed.
Zhang Su didn’t say anything else, pointed at the dilapidated ladder, and asked, “Can you get on the roof?”
Pang Dakun glanced at the ladder, making a peculiar expression, “Uncle, aren’t you insulting me? There’s already a ladder, still asking if I can go up, of course, I can!”
Zhang Su saw Pang Dakun’s mischievous look and said, “Don’t act cocky, it’s easy to get up, hard to come down, if there’s an emergency retreat, can you get down in time?”
“Alright, alright, you don’t trust me, I’ll demonstrate, okay?”
Pang Dakun rolled up his sleeves, touched the slightly damp metal handrail, and turned to Zhang Su and the others, “If I can go up and down, is there a reward?”
“I won’t let you work for nothing, what reward do you want?”
Zhang Su didn’t argue with Pang Dakun.
“Hehe, let me watch five, no, ten episodes of cartoons!” Pang Dakun said with a particularly bright smile.
Woof!
Unexpectedly, it wasn’t Zhang Su who responded, but Corgi Good Fortune, who somehow had also come to the back of the factory, raised its front paw pointing at the ladder, woofed again, and then licked its lips.
“Brother Su, what’s she mean?”
Wu Lue curiously asked.
“She said she can climb up too, and only needs one can of meat.” Zhang Su translated.
Woof.
Good Fortune stuck out its tongue, grinning widely, indicating Zhang Su was correct.
“Damn, how can she compete with me for business?” Pang Dakun looked at the small dog very annoyed.
“Compete for what kind of business? It’s not taking away your cartoons, come on, the two of you, start the show!”
Zhang Su raised his hand to signal.
“Watch closely!”
Pang Dakun didn’t hold back, after vaguely planning at the bottom of the staircase, he borrowed strength from his legs and climbed quickly up a large section, not taking the usual path.
However, Corgi Good Fortune just gave him a disdainful glance and tippy-toed up the stairs with small quick steps…like it’s flat ground.
“Damn… Her weight is too light, using the stairs is fine. Brother Su, we’ve been fooled!”
Wu Lue looked at Good Fortune climbing up proudly, occasionally avoiding small puddles, and was rather speechless.
“Xiaopang, ignore Good Fortune, she won’t fall to death, but you have no ropes protecting you, for crying out loud, be careful, don’t break your leg!” Zhang Su noticed Pang Dakun also focused on Good Fortune, quickly reminded.
“Got it!”
Pang Dakun steadied his mind, climbing seriously again.
From a human standpoint, he indeed didn’t struggle much to get to the roof, popped his head out to see the people below, then slowly climbed down the stairs again, took almost no longer than normal walking up and down stairs, fully acceptable.
“How is it, Uncle? Let me practice a few more times, I guarantee it can get even quicker!” Pang Dakun wore an expression clearly expecting praise.
“Alright, Xiaopang, after eating, you’ll go sleep, you’ll be on guard tonight!” Zhang Su was very satisfied, patting Pang Dakun’s shoulder.
“Huh?” Pang Dakun’s face dropped.
Zhang Su squinted at him, “You think climbing proving your ability means you can watch ten episodes of cartoons? Isn’t that wishful thinking…”
“Understood, Uncle.”
Now it was Pang Dakun’s turn to be depressed, hanging his head, trudging towards the factory, but suddenly remembered he could watch cartoons, his mood brightened.
Zhang Su eyed Pang Dakun’s back, suddenly thought, squatted to Good Fortune and said, “You go rest later too, watch him on guard tonight, if he gets sleepy, bite him!”
Woof.
Good Fortune nodded spiritedly.
While talking, a figure emerged from the factory’s rear door, raising two items, excitedly calling to Zhang Su, “Bro, look, found good stuff in those bastards’ bags!”
“Walkie-talkies?”
Zhang Su’s eyes lit up spotting Zhao Dezhu’s two large cellphone-like gadgets.
“Yes, haha, wouldn’t have thought, found it in the guy’s bag bitten by Pan Guihua’s daughter, that lot brought plenty of wilderness survival gear!”
