Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person - Chapter 300 - 249: What Must Come, Will Come

“Your team doesn’t care about points, but I do. Don’t rush to act next time!”
“Exactly, fifty points can get a lot of good smokes and drinks. Even if we split it among our three teams, it’s still a good haul!”
Leizi’s nonchalant manner drew intense dissatisfaction from the other two captains.
In the Cyan Dragon Corps, points are a premium currency used exclusively for exchanging luxury items like cigarettes, alcohol, and tea. Earning points is rare, which makes them so precious.
Leizi waved his hand and said, “Alright, alright, dragging the body back can also earn ten points. I don’t want them; they’re all yours. Okay? Do you still want to head to United Village, or are you just going to keep babbling?”
With that, he nonchalantly turned and walked toward the vehicle.
Team Three Captain Brother Sun and Team Five’s Old Hou exchanged glances, both shaking their heads helplessly, then directed their men to load the mutated zombie onto the vehicle as they got back into the car.
The convoy set out again, crawling slowly over the pothole-ridden road, with the cargo truck swaying perilously as if about to tip over at any moment.
From a distance behind, Zhang Su frowned as he watched the convoy, noticing an odd phenomenon.
Previously, the cargo truck made no noise while driving smoothly, but now, with its violent jolts, something was clearly banging against the cargo hold, producing a muffled thumping sound. It was obviously quite heavy.
“Could there be some special weapon hidden in the cargo hold?”
Zhang Su pushed his electric moped forward, pondering. He saw the convoy restart but didn’t rush to catch up because there was no need…
United Village had become a village of death, with the dead lying where they fell and the rest having fled. Going there now would be pointless. He wasn’t interested in following, preferring not to look for a hiding place when the convoy turned around.
It was better to lie in ambush in Beidong Town and use the time to further refine his ambush plan.
However, during the ambush, Zhang Su suddenly saw four vehicles speeding from the south, their headlights blazing, with roaring engines sounding loud in his ears!
“Who the hell are these guys now…”
Zhang Su quickly ducked into a roadside shop, feeling in his gut that tonight was going to be lively!
Sure enough, the four vehicles reached Beidong Town and, as expected, slowed down due to the bumpy road, allowing Zhang Su to see the situation inside the cars clearly!
Zhang Xin!
And the sidekick who was with him the other day.
He could even see Zhang Xin continuously looking back toward United Village as they passed the intersection…
Two other vehicles carried people he didn’t recognize.
“People from the Survivor Alliance!”
Zhang Su frowned, though he wasn’t too surprised. He already knew it wouldn’t be easy for Zhang Xin to blend in unnoticed after returning to the Survivor Alliance.
It was clear from their gear that those unfamiliar people’s equipment was much better than Zhang Xin’s group. Their bulky vests seemed to be bulletproof vests, and though the angle wasn’t ideal, he could see these people were equipped with rifles, likely elite teams from the Survivor Alliance!
Their appearance wasn’t hard to explain. Zhang Su guessed they were continuing the investigation into Duan Wuhu and Fu Weijun.
As for why they were moving around at 2 a.m., a ghostly hour, it was likely to avoid prying eyes and prevent complications.
Zhang Su didn’t know if there was a connection between the Survivor Alliance and the Cyan Dragon Corps.
“It seems Fu Weijun is of great importance within the alliance!”
Watching the cars disappear into the distance, Zhang Su leaned quietly on the second floor of the shop, contemplating Fu Weijun’s impressive achievements after just a few days of studying the Petrified Skin Zombie. Truly, technology changes lives…
“After dealing with the Cyan Dragon Corps, I need to get some instruments for Fu Weijun as soon as possible!”
While Zhang Su was planning, he heard the sound of vehicles coming from United Village. He didn’t have to think hard to know it was the Cyan Dragon Corps returning empty-handed.
As the vehicles approached, he overheard their swearing voices.
“Damn, a whole village left with corpses everywhere, can’t even hold back zombies, useless, all fucking useless!”
“Shut up already, are you done whining?”
“United Village had over fifty people, and now we’re short quite a bit of food…”
“The people are dead, but the food’s still there. We don’t have time to pick up trash. Once we get back, notify teams seven and eight to come and take care of it!”
As the discussion continued, the cars drove over the bumpy road heading north, with no one aware a small electric moped was tailing them.
Celestial Horse Island, despite the quiet, carried a heavy air. It was the middle of the night, yet no one could rest easy.
“They’re here!”
Zheng Xinyu’s voice came through the walkie-talkie to everyone.
Below the mountain, vehicles drove up the makeshift road. The specifics weren’t clear in the darkness, but the loud rumbling indicated many vehicles!
Moments later, the roar of engines grew louder as the convoy began climbing the mountain. The sound of brakes squealed as the lead vehicle stopped in front of the mountain gate.
“This is Celestial Horse Island Safety Camp. Who are you, and what do you want?”
Standing at the mountain gate, Qi Xiaoshuai posed the question, swaggering with an automatic rifle.
As an on-duty sentinel, not having a decent weapon would be too fake!
“We’re from the Cyan Dragon Corps, and it’s the day for the arranged grain delivery. Open the gate now!”
The driver of the lead truck stuck his head out, speaking with an air of entitlement.
“How do you prove you’re from the Cyan Dragon Corps?”
Qi Xiaoshuai shone his flashlight in the speaker’s face without a hint of courtesy.
Ratatatata.
A series of gunshots fired into the air echoed through the mountains.
When it quieted down, the man spoke again, “Just look at the vehicles behind us. Besides, the Cyan Dragon Corps, who else in this area can mobilize such a display?”
“Why come to collect grain at night?”
Qi Xiaoshuai feigned surprise, still with no intention of opening the gate.
“A week is a week. Once it’s past midnight, it’s the day. What do you care if it’s day or night? Open the gate quickly, or we’ll get rough!”
Liu Lei, from the second car, banged on the door, acting quite aggressive, then pointed at Qi Xiaoshuai on the platform, “What’s with the lousy gun? Are you trying to scare someone? Hand it over, or I’ll shoot you!”
“Yelling for what? Standing watch at night without a gun is just a joke, right? We agreed to exchange grain—that’s the focus, not the guns!”
Qi Xiaoshuai retorted sardonically, slinging the gun over his shoulder, putting on a façade of rebelliousness and suppressed defiance.
“Hang on, there’s quite a number of things blocking the gate. I’ll call someone to help. Don’t rush!”
With that said, Qi Xiaoshuai used his walkie-talkie to make a show of notifying someone.
“Still acting all high and mighty, damn.”
The Cyan Dragon Corps’ people weren’t in a hurry. Collecting protection fees meant having the mindset to do so. As long as the other side handed over the agreed supplies, a slight attitude issue was understandable.
Less than five minutes later, four or five people came running out from the camp, cursing all the way, and moved the roadblocks away, then opened the gate.
“This place’s defenses aren’t weak!”
The convoy entered in single file, headlights illuminating the surroundings as Old Hou murmured softly.
The walls appeared rough, but they were built with reinforced concrete, not to be underestimated in terms of defense.
The mountain gate was similarly ugly but functional, surrounded by barbed wire and oddly shaped chevaux de frise. Though they looked crude, anyone with experience could see their effectiveness against zombies.
If they weren’t well-prepared and heavily armed, they wouldn’t dare to intrude here lightly!
“Well thought out. They have not only zombie defenses but if they hadn’t opened the gate, forcing our way in would be tough!”
Hou Changjun surveyed the camp, observing survivors approaching with wary expressions.
“What’s the big deal? Bring the Type 99 to crush this dirt wall. What’s with the chevaux de frise? It’s meaningless!”
Liu Lei sneered disdainfully.
“Who do you think you are? The Type 99 isn’t something we can use. Teams One and Two need approval to use it, so simple-minded!”
“Even without the Type 99, no worries. Just ram the gate, open the cargo hold, and they’ll be dumbfounded!”
Liu Lei’s confidence was sky-high.
“You’re so goddamn naive…” Sun Jianwei couldn’t help but shake his head. Liu Lei’s confidence was bordering on arrogance.
Hou Changjun added, “003 is powerful, but it’s not invincible. If you mess it up, just wait till the commander gives you hell!”
“Hehe, just talking. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing!” Liu Lei grinned, claiming to be reliable but giving off a totally untrustworthy vibe.
As over ten vehicles entered the camp, for the first time since the disaster, the spacious parking lot became bustling.
