- Chapter 295 - 182: Qinling Research Team

November 1st, Saturday.
Clear skies.
On the first day of the new month, Chen Yuan opened his eyes early.
Out of habit, his hand reached under the pillow, unlocking his phone with his fingerprint to see a string of messages from Zhou Xu.
All about the first Qin Province Beastmaster Championship.
According to the competition committee’s regulations, this Beastmaster Championship has two registration channels – ordinary and special.
Ordinary Beastmasters and academy students choose the first channel, while important members of the Association and elite members of the Investigation Department choose the second.
Regarding this, Zhou Xu explained: “Because this competition is massive, the number of applicants has already exceeded ten thousand. The initial screening and elimination rounds alone will last a long time and will be held in multiple venues.”
“The organizing committee considered that you all have busy schedules and limited free time, hence the creation of the second registration channel.”
“Additionally, your average strength far surpasses that of ordinary Beastmasters, so having you participate in the elimination rounds wouldn’t be fair to them.”
Chen Yuan was momentarily stunned, his first reaction was that the average strength of academy students also far exceeds ordinary Beastmasters.
Zhou Xu seemed to have anticipated Chen Yuan’s doubt and answered in the following message: “Because students have more free time.”
Chen Yuan nodded in understanding.
“Currently, there are thirty-two Beastmasters registered through the special channel, and this number is unlikely to increase.”
“Among them, there are 22 Association Consultants, 6 elite members of the Investigation Department, and 4 individuals with special status.”
“Barring any surprises, you thirty-two will engage in intense competition to secure two spots in the top eight.”
“Before that, you won’t encounter players from the ordinary channel.”
Seeing this, Chen Yuan felt a bit regretful: “Missed the chance to compete in the Baby Cup.”
He was quite looking forward to seeing Cola bite through opponents one by one.
But the Beastmasters registering through the special channel seemed pretty strong, either Association Consultants or elite members of the Investigation Department, so the competition will inevitably be fierce.
Moreover, there are only two direct spots for the main competition.
“Roar, roar, roar!”
Cola bared its teeth, its tail wagging wildly, thumping against the bed, its gaze fiercely sharp.
Who cares about their status, just watch me bite them!
“Hum hum~”
Twin Flower Concubine tugged at Chen Yuan’s collar, a mysterious hope glimmering in its pink eyes.
Chen Yuan was taken aback: “You want detailed information on these people?”
“Hum~”
Twin Flower Concubine’s gaze was serious.
It had heard from a video blogger that a crucial step in Pet Beast battles is studying the opponent’s Pet Beast strength and tactical style.
Understanding your opponent allows you to respond with ease.
Chen Yuan couldn’t help but laugh: “You little guy, you also want to be my coach and tactical analyst.”
“Quite ambitious.”
But meeting the earnest gaze of the Twin Flower Concubine, Chen Yuan’s expression gradually became serious: “Alright, I’ll ask Zhou Xu to help gather the information.”
“Hum hum~”
Twin Flower Concubine beamed, lifting its long skirt to express gratitude to Chen Yuan.
“Actually… I should be the one thanking you.”
After checking out, Chen Yuan headed straight to the station, boarding the train back to Baokun City.
Phoenix City and Baokun City weren’t far apart, just an hour’s journey, and Chen Yuan was back in the most familiar place.
Though Phoenix City was nice and bustling, it wasn’t his hometown after all.
Inside the Association building,
“Professor Song, I’ve been eagerly awaiting your arrival.” Wang Jianping’s face was full of smiles, extending his right hand first to Professor Song Ren.
Known for his stern demeanor, he couldn’t help but beam at an academic superstar.
“Chairman Wang, pleased to finally meet you.” Professor Song smiled slightly.
“These are my two students, acting as my assistants for this mission.”
“Chen Wenhao, Zhang Yu, this is Chairman Wang.”
Chen Wenhao and his junior, Zhang Yu, quickly nodded to Wang Jianping, greeting: “Chairman Wang.”
Wang Jianping nodded at the young pair beside Song Ren, feeling that the bespectacled, gentle-looking young man seemed familiar, as if he’d seen him somewhere before.
But as the chairman of the Association, Wang Jianping met countless people every day and swiftly dismissed the feeling of familiarity.
“These are students from the Combat Type department.” Professor Song continued his introduction.
Wang Jianping’s gaze moved past Professor Song, focusing on five young individuals standing in the row behind.
Two among them particularly caught his attention.
A girl with a delicate face, an Ice Crystal Illusion Cat perched on her shoulder, wore a smile as pleasant as spring breeze yet with a hint of aloofness.
A tall, slender young man had dark red short hair with orange-gold highlights, standing out amidst the masses with jet-black hair. His tactical jacket with black flame patterns paired with ripped jeans made him look like a key member of some underground rock band.
Compared to the other three students, these two appeared very composed, exuding strong confidence from inside out.
This confidence either stemmed from a privileged family background or from their own formidable strength.
He recalled the personnel information Zhou Xu had gathered:
This girl was Jiang Wenning, currently ranked in the top twenty in the academy.
The boy who seemed like a rock band member was Lu Ran, currently ranked in the top five in the academy, often challenging the highly popular Li Tianyun online, though with a low win rate.
As for the other three students, they were all above average in the Combat Type department, with notable strength.
Without strong capabilities, they wouldn’t have passed the rigorous interview process.
The remaining two members from the Investigation Department were also quite competent, but their main responsibilities were handling various affairs, liaising with different organizational units, and leaving behind photographic documentation.
