- Chapter 309 - 275: So I Want to See What My Buddha Will Look Like

Kongnian Temple, a private courtyard on the back mountain.
On the second day after the young woman opened her eyes beneath the Bodhi Tree, she began to pack her luggage, placing her clothes into a bundle one by one.
This was a habit of hers.
Even though she had a Storage Pouch, she still used a bundle to pack her clothes, just as she had when she was little.
“Little Migu, do you have anything to pack?”
Wangxin asked the Little Chaos by the bed.
Over the years, Wangxin had given the Little Chaos a temporary name: “Migu.”
The name came from the “migu migu” sound it always made.
The reason it was a “temporary” name was that Wangxin had chosen it on her own, without asking for Xiao Mo’s opinion.
If Xiao Mo didn’t like it, Wangxin would listen to him and change the Little Chaos’s name.
“MIGU MIGU…” The Little Chaos shook its chubby body, indicating it had nothing.
“Then let’s go. We’re heading down the mountain to find Xiao Mo.” Wangxin shouldered her bundle.
“MIGU…”
Hearing they were going to find its bargain of a master, the Little Chaos happily flew to Wangxin’s shoulder and settled down.
“Amitabha Buddha… Wangxin, where might you be going?”
But just as Wangxin was stepping out of the courtyard, the voice of Abbot Xujing called out.
Seeing her Grandpa Abbot, Wangxin jumped in surprise, stammering nervously, “Grandpa Abbot… I… I…”
“Sigh…” Looking at his disciple, Xujing shook his head. “You want to go down the mountain to find Donor Xiao?”
“Mhm…” Since she had been found out, Wangxin simply lifted her head and said earnestly, “I ask for Grandpa Abbot’s permission.”
“Wangxin, in the past, Grandpa Abbot would not have stopped you, but things are different now… It would be best if you did not go looking for Xiao Mo.”
Yesterday, Wangxin had resolved the doubts in her heart and broken through into the Immortal Realm.
Xujing was naturally very happy about this.
Aside from Xiao Mo, Wangxin was the youngest Immortal Realm Cultivator in the history of the entire Western Regions. This was a blessing for the Buddhist Sect.
But now, with the war between the Buddhist and Demon Sects, it was truly not the right time for Wangxin to be seeking out Xiao Mo.
“Grandpa Abbot? Xiao Mo… has he done something?”
Wangxin looked at her Grandpa Abbot in confusion.
Since yesterday, Wangxin had felt that her Grandpa Abbot was suppressing his thoughts, as if trying to prevent her from seeing something.
But in the past, her Grandpa Abbot had always been very open, never afraid of her seeing what was on his mind.
Wangxin guessed that the reason her Grandpa Abbot was acting this way was most likely because of Xiao Mo.
“Sigh…”
Xujing shook his head, deciding not to hide it from Wangxin any longer.
“Fine, I will tell you.
Many major events have occurred these past few years. Xiao Mo is now the Sect Leader of the Wandao Sect, and what’s more, he has become the Demon Lord of the Western Regions.
He has even led tens of thousands of Demon Sect Cultivators across Buddha Demon Mountain.
The great war between the Buddhist Sect and the Demon Sect has truly begun.”
“…”
Hearing her Grandpa Abbot’s words, a flash of astonishment crossed Wangxin’s eyes.
But soon, Wangxin lifted her head and said earnestly, “Then, Grandpa Abbot, I have even more reason to go find Xiao Mo. I want to stop him…”
“It’s useless.”
Xujing said calmly.
“This war has already swept across the entire Western Regions; it can’t be stopped just by wishing it so.
Although I have only met Donor Xiao a few times, I know a little of his character.
The reason Donor Xiao is doing this is that he has surely thought it through and made up his mind. He will not turn back.”
“Even so, I must go!” Wangxin said, her eyes firm with resolve.
“Wangxin, it will be very dangerous if you go now.”
Xujing still shook his head.
To Xujing, Wangxin was not just his disciple; she was more like his granddaughter.
According to rumors, the Xiao Mo of today was in a killing frenzy.
Even if their feelings for each other ran deep, if Wangxin were to appear by his side now and touch his reverse scale, there was no telling what might happen.
Seeing that her Grandpa Abbot was determined not to let her go, Wangxin said no more. She held the Little Chaos and immediately flew off in another direction.
But just as Xujing was about to intervene, a crimson streak of Sword Qi shot through the air and struck Wangxin squarely in the back.
Wangxin lost consciousness and fell from the sky.
“MIGU?”
The Little Chaos was startled and hurriedly flew toward its mistress.
But at that moment, a man had already stepped through the air, reaching out to catch Wangxin.
“MIGU!”
Looking at the man, the Little Chaos rubbed its eyes with its wings, wondering if it was seeing things.
Xiao Mo landed with Wangxin in his arms, then walked step by step into the courtyard, into the young woman’s chambers, and placed her on the bed.
When Xiao Mo walked out of the courtyard, he summoned an Array Map.
The Array within the map quickly peeled off and enveloped the entire courtyard.
The Little Chaos was startled and quickly flew toward the outside of the courtyard, only to crash into a Barrier, unable to get out.
“MIGU MIGU!”
The Little Chaos flapped its wings angrily inside the Barrier, as if protesting against Xiao Mo.
But Xiao Mo acted as if he hadn’t seen it, turning to bow to Xujing. “Master Xujing, it has been a long time.”
“Amitabha Buddha.” Xujing chanted the Buddha’s name, returning the gesture with his palms together. “Donor Xiao, it has been a long time.”
Looking at the man before him, Xujing hadn’t expected that Xiao Mo could enter Kongnian Temple as if it were unguarded, with the temple’s Arrays not reacting in the slightest.
’The little boy from all those years ago had actually grown to such a level.’
“Master Xujing, would you care to take a walk?” Xiao Mo asked.
“Please.” Xujing gestured with his hand.
Xiao Mo nodded and walked down the mountain with Xujing.
As the two walked through the mountain forest, Xiao Mo slowly spoke, his tone apologetic:
“This Array I’ve set up is an ancestral treasure of the Tianzhen Sect. For the next three years, no one can enter or leave. I acted on my own initiative and hope that Master will forgive me.”
“Please don’t say that, Donor Xiao.” Xujing shook his head. “For Wangxin, this is perhaps for the best. However, I must ask why Donor Xiao has come to visit Kongnian Temple?”
“For no other reason than to persuade you to surrender, Master, and to see Wangxin on the side,” Xiao Mo said truthfully.
“Persuade me to surrender?”
Xiao Mo nodded. “Master Xujing is of noble character and high prestige, a truly eminent monk. Even my own master praised you highly, saying that the only true monk in this world is Master Xujing.”
“Your master overpraises me.”
“Whether it is praise or overpraise, I know the truth in my heart.” Xiao Mo stopped walking and looked at Master Xujing. “Therefore, I do not wish to raze Kongnian Temple to the ground. If you are willing to surrender to me and accept me as your lord, Kongnian Temple will remain as it has always been.”
“Thank you for your kind intentions, Donor Xiao.” Xujing smiled faintly. “But Donor Xiao, even if I were to agree, the others would not. I cannot stand by and watch them fight to the death against the Demon Dao while I do nothing. Please forgive me, Young Master Xiao.”
“I understand.” Xiao Mo nodded; this was within his expectations. “In that case, we shall meet again on the battlefield. I will take my leave now.”
Xiao Mo clasped his hands in a farewell salute and turned to walk down the mountain.
“Donor Xiao…”
Just as Xiao Mo had taken a few steps, Xujing called out.
“Donor Xiao, you are not a devil, nor are you the type of person who covets the Qi Fortune of the Western Regions. Why must you do this, Young Master Xiao?”
Xiao Mo turned to look at Xujing. “When Wangxin was explaining the Buddhist Dharma to me, she once mentioned a saying of yours, Master Xujing—that every person has their own Buddha.”
“Indeed.” Xujing nodded.
Xiao Mo looked toward the main hall of Kongnian Temple. “For most people, they burn incense and pray for blessings. Their Buddha is the one sitting in that hall.”
“But… that is not my Buddha.”
Xiao Mo turned back, a smile on his face as he looked at Xujing.
“So I want to see what my Buddha will look like.”
