- Chapter 384 - 326: It Seems One of the Prince’s Sons Is Presentable After All

Twenty li from Tengwang Pass in the Wei Kingdom.
A man clad in silver-white armor rode a snow-white horse, leading five thousand iron cavalry.
Behind him, the five thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry radiated a murderous aura. The moonlight fell upon them, making each one look like a silver god of war descended from the heavens.
But in the eyes of these battle-hardened warriors, there was a hint of disdain and displeasure.
This was especially true for a Vice General riding beside the man. He glanced at the Prince’s second son and couldn’t help but tighten his grip on the reins.
After a long moment of contemplation, he spoke again. “General, our orders are to hold Moonlight City and keep an eye on the Wey Kingdom’s relief forces. Is it not improper for us to be heading into the heartland of the Wei Kingdom?”
“General Li, you worry too much,”
Xiao Yishen, the second young master of the Xiao Mansion, said with a smile.
“The situation in the Wei Kingdom is already decided. Besides, my father has already led one hundred thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry deep into the Wey Kingdom. The Wey Kingdom can hardly protect itself, so how could they possibly send reinforcements? In contrast, the final battle for the Wei Kingdom’s Imperial City is at hand. Their forces will fight to the last man. If we go and lend the Flame King a hand, we’ll be acting for the sake of the greater good!”
“…”
The Vice General, Li Jing, felt his brow twitch.
Xiao Yishen made it sound so noble, talking about acting for the greater good.
But Li Jing knew exactly what was going on. Xiao Yishen just wanted to snatch a piece of the Flame King’s glory for conquering a kingdom!
The thought filled Li Jing with utter contempt.
After all, the Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry had always fought the tough battles. Since when did they need to stoop to stealing another’s credit, just to get a sip of their soup?
But there was nothing more Li Jing could say.
The Prince had put these five thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry under the full command of this second young master. As long as he was in charge, Li Jing had to obey.
The Prince’s original intention was for them to garrison Moonlight City. It was a simple task where avoiding mistakes was a victory in itself. But this glory-hound of a second young master… ’What an embarrassment!’
Still, Li Jing couldn’t help but feel a little emotional.
’To think how valiant and wise the Prince and the former Prince Zhenbei were,’ he thought. ’How did Prince Xiao’s Mansion fall to this in this generation?’
It seemed that every great family had its own rise and fall.
Just as Xiao Yishen and his five thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry arrived before the gates of Tengwang Pass, Li Jing looked up and saw a masked man standing ramrod straight before the city gate, a Long Spear in his hand.
Behind the man, five hundred iron cavalry were arrayed in formation, waiting. Every soldier, and even their horses, stood motionless as if they were statues.
Xiao Yishen recognized their uniforms and banners at a glance. It was Qin Huo’s army, and these five hundred riders were his personal guard.
“I am Xiao Yishen, second son of the Prince Zhenbei’s Mansion! I lead five thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry, here to reinforce the Flame King!”
Xiao Yishen shouted at the man wearing the Asura Mask.
Xiao Mo took off his mask.
Beneath the moonlight, Xiao Mo’s handsome face was revealed, startling more than a few of the Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry. His fine features were a stark contrast to his murderous aura.
Most of them, however, were mentally prepared for it.
Throughout the Wei Kingdom, if not the entire world, who hadn’t heard of the Qin Kingdom general who was “a god of slaughter with his mask on, a handsome lord with it off”?
Xiao Mo looked at Xiao Yishen and said coldly, “The Wei Kingdom’s Imperial City does not require your assistance. Return to Moonlight City and keep watch over the Wey Kingdom. You need not advance another step.”
Xiao Yishen’s brow furrowed. “And what if I insist on advancing?”
Xiao Yishen’s voice echoed below the city walls. Xiao Mo didn’t answer. He simply, slowly, put his mask back on.
The instant Xiao Mo’s mask was back in place, all five hundred iron cavalry raised their Long Spears and aimed them at the opposing force. The movement was perfectly synchronized, every single spear tip held at the exact same level.
“Xiao Mo! You’re nothing but a bastard! How dare you stand in my way?!”
Xiao Yishen roared in fury.
He knew, of course, that the masked general described in the recently popular “Frost Red Battle Song” was none other than his own third brother—the bastard he had never even deigned to notice.
And that was precisely why Xiao Yishen was even more furious!
’It’s one thing for our older brother to be more favored by Father,’ he fumed. ’But why is a bastard more famous than me? Why has he accomplished more than I have?!’
’How am I supposed to show my face when I get back?’
“These are military orders,”
Xiao Mo said, his voice devoid of any personal emotion.
“I will say this one last time: all of you, turn back!”
Xiao Mo realized that this so-called second brother of his wasn’t very bright. In fact, he seemed utterly spoiled.
“Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry, charge!” Xiao Yishen roared, his composure completely shattered.
But after he shouted, the Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry remained motionless, as if they hadn’t heard his command at all.
Li Jing sighed inwardly and rode forward. “General,” he said, “according to the military law of the Qin Kingdom, comrades-in-arms are forbidden from fighting one another. If there is a dispute, it is to be settled between the commanding generals themselves.”
“Fine! Then I’ll kill this bastard and clean up our family’s disgrace!” Xiao Yishen spurred his warhorse forward, clamping his legs and charging, his long saber hacking down toward Xiao Mo.
Xiao Mo met the challenge without hesitation.
Though they were in the same Realm, Xiao Yishen was no match for Xiao Mo.
In less than twenty rounds, a flick of Xiao Mo’s Long Spear sent Xiao Yishen flying from his horse.
As Xiao Yishen tried to get back up, Xiao Mo’s iron-shod boot slammed onto his chest, and the tip of his Long Spear was already pressed against his throat.
If Xiao Mo pushed forward just one more inch, blood would splatter.
“Xiao Mo, kill me if you have the guts!” Xiao Yishen roared, his voice thick with shame and fury.
“You think I don’t dare?” Xiao Mo’s eyes, hidden behind the mask, stared at him coldly.
A chill ran through Xiao Yishen, and he dared not speak another word.
He had a feeling that if he said anything more, Xiao Mo would actually kill him.
“Get lost. If you dare take another step closer to Tengwang Pass, I will kill you.”
Xiao Mo kicked out. The sound of several of Xiao Yishen’s bones breaking was clearly audible as he was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing into the formation of the Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry.
But not a single warrior so much as glanced down at him.
In the end, it was Li Jing who waved a hand, ordering his subordinates to pick up the unconscious Xiao Yishen and sling him over a horse’s back.
Li Jing glanced at Xiao Mo and his five hundred cavalry in the distance, then asked, “If I were to insist on forcing our way through Tengwang Pass, do you, General Xiao, believe your five hundred riders could stop my five thousand?”
Xiao Mo smiled. “If General Li were leading the charge himself, it’s hard to say. But if it’s that useless sack Xiao Yishen, five men would be overkill.”
“Hahaha!”
Li Jing laughed heartily, then waved his hand with a grand gesture.
“Withdraw! Back to Moonlight City!”
“Yes, sir!”
The five thousand Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry roared in unison. They turned and retreated, their discipline absolute, their movements crisp and without a single wasted motion.
’No wonder everyone covets the Snow-Trampling Dragon Cavalry. Now I see why,’ Xiao Mo thought as he reined in his horse and led his own troops back.
Li Jing glanced at the unconscious Xiao Yishen slung over his saddle, then looked back at the ramrod-straight figure of Xiao Mo. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
’Looks like among the Prince’s sons, there’s at least one worth a damn after all.’
