Chapter 1884: A Man Who Has Nothing But A Gacha Game
—–
“I have to investigate and find a solution to this mess… Why is Migu-chan alive? What is this phenomenon, and why am I connected to her?” Haruto muttered, tapping at his laptop as he scoured the web and even the deep web. “Something seriously wrong is happening in Japan…”
Until he found it. Several news outlets and social media accounts displayed images and videos of bizarre “caricatures” moving around as if alive, scattered here and there across the streets.
Sometimes they appeared neutral, other times benign, and… other times, violently aggressive.
A giant robot strode through city blocks, a colossal lizard unleashed atomic breath against it, squads of heroes in vibrant colored outfits clashed with foes, an alien warrior shifted hair colors through transformations, ninjas and samurai appeared in flashes, and much more.
“So this is where you come from…”
“Oh, that’s freaky. There are so many weird things roaming the streets—what is all of this?” Migu asked, sounding completely clueless.
“So even you don’t know?” Haruto wondered, fingers still flying across the keys. “Haaa… Maybe you’re some kind of monster. I should report this to the authorities so they can take you away.”
“Eek! W-Why would you do something so awful?!” Migu cried. “And monster?! Me?! I am Migu-chan! I’ve been watching you this entire time, feeling everything you felt, crying when you cried. I know you’ve felt so lonely all this time. I just want to help you become the best version of yourself, Haruto!”
“…”
Haruto sighed, crossing his arms as he thought. “So let’s say you have no ill intentions. And so what? What are you going to do then? What do you suppose you can even do?”
“S-So cold… and you were my greatest fan, always smiling. Now you hate me?” Migu’s voice cracked; she looked genuinely heartbroken.
“T-That’s not…” He groaned and sighed again. “Sorry… I just haven’t really talked with another person in ages. It all feels overwhelming to me.”
“Hmm! Ah, I see, so that’s it,” Migu said, suddenly smiling with confidence. Her eyes blinked rapidly, showing off her big eyelashes. “Are you perhaps embarrassed, Haruto-sama~?”
“W-What?!”
“Heheh, you’re a virgin after all… not that there’s anything wrong with that! I don’t mock people for such things,” Migu nodded earnestly. “Maybe if you lose your virginity with me you can—”
“Enough! What is this?! A damn self-fulfillment power fantasy?! This is reality!” Haruto shouted. “You’re a strange entity that appeared out of nowhere! I don’t want you to touch me!”
“…!” Migu froze. A literal “<3” appeared in her chest, then shattered into “</3” in an instant. “So cruel!”
“If you think I’m cruel or a bad person, you’re welcome to leave,” he sighed.
“I ain’t leaving!” she declared with a small chuckle. “Haruto, I’ll stay with you, and I promise I will make you happy!”
“Ugh, this is the worst…” he muttered.
“How about we start by cleaning this messy room, hm?” she asked, suddenly conjuring a large trash bag. “And… Huh? This trash can only has white tissues inside. Why?”
“D-Don’t get close to those!” Haruto yelled, snatching the can and deciding to clean the room himself. “Don’t bother yourself. I’m doing it! Just… leave me alone.”
“Hmmm… Haruto, you’re so hard to please,” Migu sighed, shaking her head. “Ah, I know what’ll cheer you up! My songs!”
“E-Enough, don’t sing—”
“LA~!”
BOOOMMM!!!
The entire roof and walls exploded outward in a deafening soundwave, leaving Haruto and Migu standing amid smoking ruins.
“A-Ah… M-my… my… my house…! MY HOUSE!!!”
“Ah… Um… Oopsie?”
.
.
Tanaka Kenichi, 35 years old.
A man who led an utterly ordinary life as a salaryman—working tirelessly every day, stressing through endless all-nighters.
He returned home exhausted, barely able to force down a meager meal before collapsing half-dead into bed.
Only to wake up early the next morning and repeat the same grueling cycle.
His only escape from this monotonous existence came from the mobile games he played on his phone—especially gacha games, which had slowly become his one true passion.
In those games he could pretend to be stronger, richer, and leave everything to luck, gambling it all away. There were cool characters and cute girls to collect.
Above all, they delivered quick, addictive dopamine hits—enough to keep him from ending his own life.
As the days dragged on and more disappointments piled up, he grew to dread his existence even more.
He couldn’t believe that in a world filled with ancient magician families, people with superpowers, dungeons crawling with monsters, and countless other wonders… he was still just an ordinary salaryman.
He was plain and disposable. Nothing about him stood out: slender, almost skeletal build, pale face, black eyes, black hair, glasses.
That was all he was—plain old Tanaka.
He had never had the chance to meet a woman, let alone marry. He lacked social skills, attractiveness, and money—living paycheck to paycheck.
Well, perhaps if he quit cigarettes and gacha he could start saving.
But without those small indulgences in his miserable life, he would probably lose his mind and try to kill himself—so he never even tried.
Sometimes the only thing keeping him from ending his pointless existence was one more gacha roll.
“Come on, come on… how many pulls is it going to take to get the new SSR Demon Queen of Lust, Anierik-sama? I’ve been rolling for her this whole time.”
He groaned, sighed, and decided to sleep.
Only to pick up his phone again almost immediately.
“Fine, one last roll.”
He spent 2000 yen on one final x11 pull.
The animation began: a grand summoning circle crackled with lightning.
“Ahh, this isn’t going to work, huh?”
Lightning surged across the screen as low-rank characters appeared one after another.
Rare Rank: Bunny Martial Warrior Lin Ming, Aqua Lance Dragoon, Abyssal Warrior Sigma.
Super Rare Rank: King of the Golden Throne Gilgamesh, Demigod of War Hercules…
But never a Super Special Rank.
“Fodder, fodder, fodder…”
He tapped through them, rolling his eyes—barely paying attention as the final animation played.
Then, at the last moment, red and purple lightning exploded across the screen.
BOOOM!
“Woah?!”
Purple butterflies burst from his phone; pink clouds swirled around him. He stared in confusion, trying to rationalize what he was seeing.
“I-Is this some kind of 3D effect?”
Red petals drifted down from nowhere. A figure emerged from the device, a stunning, gorgeous demon queen.
Pale purple skin, long dark red hair tied into two flowing ponytails, each strand adorned with black vines and red-and-black roses.
A dress woven from shadows and specters, gleaming golden eyes, and two long black demonic horns studded with red and purple jewels.
Slender, tall, breathtaking, with an enchanting smile.
“I-I…! I got her?! Demon Queen of Lust! I got her!!!”
He screamed in disbelief and raw joy. A massive rush of dopamine flooded him—he finally felt like he had won at something, even if it was just a stupid gacha game.
