Cultivation Online - Chapter 2443 The Great Cataclysm(2)

“The disease, which had appeared only sporadically for countless years, suddenly infected the entire world at once,” the woman said in a grim voice. “Panic spread, chaos followed, and the world as we knew it came to an end. This is the Great Cataclysm.”
“However, not everyone transformed into the red-skinned demons that now make up the majority of our kind. Some turned grey, others blue, and a few even retained their human appearance.”
After a brief pause, she continued in a sorrowful voice, “It wouldn’t have been as bad if everyone turned into demons. Unfortunately, that was not the case, as the majority of the human population perished during the Great Cataclysm, and I watched as my entire family died one by one before me.”
Yuan silently listened to her story with a pondering expression on his face.
“After the Great Cataclysm ended and everyone in the world either became a demon or died, an unfamiliar voice rippled throughout the world, giving a brief explanation of what had occurred.”
“The Demon God?” Yuan asked.
The woman nodded. “That was the Demon God’s first appearance—his introduction to the world. It was then that he revealed we were his creation, and that he had elevated us into what he called superior beings.”
“Of course,” the woman continued in a sighing voice, “the Demon God deemed most of us failures, claiming that only a select few had truly succeeded in ascending. I… was one of those few.”
“Did the Demon God reveal the reason behind his actions?”
The woman shook her head.
“No, and that was the last time we ever heard from him again… at least until Supreme Rulers became a thing.”
After hearing her full story and learning the true history of the Demonic Realm, Yuan finally understood why the woman appeared to despise the Demon God who, for whatever reason, turned every human into monsters incapable of dying normally.
“I understand how demons came to be, but what about the Forsaken?” Yuan asked after a moment of silence.
“They were originally just called ‘demons,'” the woman replied. “But over time, we adopted that name for ourselves, as there was little difference between us—aside from our ability to retain control over our emotions and actions far better.”
“Eventually, the world forgot its true history. ‘Demon’ became our identity, while the original ones came to be known as Forsakens and are treated as sick demons that must be kept away from the healthy.”
“What about Abominations?” Yuan then asked. “They look nothing like demons.”
“Abominations…?” The woman looked at Yuan with a confused face, almost as if she was hearing this name for the first time.
“You know… those massive, fat and ugly demons?”
“Oh… you mean those monstrosities. They are neither human nor demon, but artificial beings created by some madman in the distant past, for reasons that remain a mystery. They’re mostly relics now—repulsive monsters of a bygone era and pretty much extinct in this world,” she said, shaking her head in disgust.
“Artificial beings?” Yuan mumbled.
This was his first time hearing a clear explanation of the Abominations’ existence, as no one had known their true origin when he’d asked as Tian Chenyu. Most had simply assumed they were mutated demons—Forsakens who had offended the Demon God so deeply they were punished with such a hideous form.
However, this wasn’t Yuan’s first time hearing about artificial beings. He just didn’t know Abominations also fell into such a category.
Some time later, Yuan asked, “Alright, now tell me about Supreme Ruler Umbra and where we can find them.”
“Supreme Ruler Umbra?” the woman suddenly chuckled, almost as if he’d just told a joke.
“There is no Supreme Ruler Umbra,” she said a moment later, leaving everyone dumbfounded.
“What? If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable!” Supreme Ruler Grant shouted. “I have met Supreme Ruler Umbra several times, yet you dared to claim he doesn’t exist?”
“By Supreme Ruler Umbra, do you mean him?”
The woman suddenly raised her hand and, with a snap of her fingers, conjured a figure out of thin air.
“T-That is—?!” Supreme Ruler Grant’s eyes widened, looking utterly bewildered. “Supreme Ruler Umbra doesn’t actually exist. He’s just an illusion we created for our own convenience, and, most importantly, for fun,” she revealed with a playful smile, “After all, nobody in this place would be willing to accept the Demon God’s Authority.”
“Then who was it that I spoke with before? You? Or the others?” Supreme Ruler Grant asked with a deep frown on his face.
“Since we can all use ‘Supreme Ruler Umbra’, it could’ve been any of us. However, I definitely have never spoken to you before.”
Yuan then asked, “Exactly how many of you are in Death Paradise?”
“Take a guess,” she said.
“A few hundred?” “Hahaha! A few hundred? We wouldn’t be bored out of our minds if we had so many Transcendants!” she exploded with laughter.
Then, she extended a hand at Yuan and raised three fingers.
“Including myself, there are only three Transcendants left now,” she calmly said.
Yuan fell silent with a stunned look on his face for a moment before speaking, “You make it sound like there were more in the past.”
“Because there were, but not much more. Enough to count with two hands.”
“What happened to them? Did they leave this world?”
“Leave? If only such a thing was possible,” she sneered before revealing in a cold tone, “They all died… killed.”
Yuan raised an eyebrow.
“They were killed? By whom? Don’t tell me they fought against themselves or something along that line.”
“Of course not. They were killed by the only existence in this world who can do so—the Demon God.”
“What?” Yuan immediately became puzzled.
“The Demon God? Why would he kill his own creation?”
The Demon God has always been adamant about not interfering with his own world, and slaughtering his own creations would be a direct contradiction to that.
The woman shrugged and calmly explained, “Because we attacked him.”
“You what?!” Yuan exclaimed, his eyes wide with disbelief.
