Desolate Devouring Art - Chapter 1624 - The Fusion of Magic

Chapter 1624 – The Fusion of Magic
The clash between the light and dark lineages handed the Faceless Clan the opening it had been waiting for. If the elves kept tearing at each other, both sides would bleed heavily, and the Faceless Clan could slip in from the shadows to finish the job.
They hadn’t expected Liu Wuxie to cut the fight short, but by the time they realized it, their forces had already closed in. Turning back now would only make them look weak, and the Faceless Clan never tolerated weakness.
The moment the sea of faceless figures appeared, fury exploded through both lineages.
“Faceless Clan, you’ve got some nerve to barge into Elven Star!” Makurat roared as he mobilized the entire dark lineage for battle.
The feud between the Faceless Clan and the Elven Race had lasted for ages. Long before the lineages had split, the two races had already clashed countless times.
Strange waves pulsed outward, rippling through the air before sliding straight into everyone’s soul sea. The Faceless Clan had always specialized in targeting the primordial spirit, and this invasion came prepared, with a quasi-immortal hidden among them.
“Cast your spells and break the Faceless Clan’s Divine Snare!” Holisse shouted. The Divine Snare struck with vicious precision, and it countered the Elven Race in the worst way.
The Divine Snare felt grotesque, like an invisible hand slipping into the soul sea, clamping down on the primordial spirit, and tightening until the victim couldn’t even think clearly.
The Elven Race could dispel the Divine Snare, but killing the Faceless Clan never came easily. Their arts restrained each other, and every exchange turned into a grinding war of attrition.
“Holy Spirit Sword.”
“Dark Judgment.”
“Doom Tempest.”
Spells tore through the sky in waves as the light and dark elves struck without hesitation. From this moment on, they moved as one. They could fight each other behind closed doors, but they would never allow the Faceless Clan to set foot on Elven Star.
The Heavenly Dao Book released a faint radiance and scattered the Divine Snare the instant it reached Liu Wuxie, leaving nothing behind.
Tian Can and Hua Feiyu both turned grim. The Divine Snare naturally suppressed humans as well, and its pressure resembled the Divine Race’s divine energy. Under equal conditions, humans would struggle to gain any real advantage against it.
As for the weaker elves, their cultivation was too shallow. Their magic couldn’t cleanse the Divine Snare fast enough, and panic spread through the ranks.
The Faceless Clan had clearly planned for this. It had brought every expert it could muster, and it aimed to wipe the Elven Race clean off its own planet.
Liu Wuxie didn’t dare to act recklessly. His inner demon still hadn’t been fully resolved. If he were to fight in earnest, the corrosion would deepen and tear at him from the inside.
“ARGH!” Cries rang out as many elves grabbed their heads and started trembling under the strain.
Makurat and Holisse struck together, weaving their magic into the air. Light gathered to form the Sacred Spirit Deity, while darkness condensed into the Dark Curse. These two peak spells represented the pinnacle of their respective lineage.
Yet the flaw revealed itself the instant they tried to synchronize. When the sacred light surged, the Dark Curse thinned. When the Dark Curse swelled, the Sacred Spirit Deity dimmed. Their forces were naturally opposed to each other, and that contradiction made coordination impossible.
Their spells didn’t lack power. Their magic contradicted one another, and until they resolved that conflict at the source, the two lineages could never truly fuse their strength. If light and dark ever merged cleanly, their power could crush anything in their path.
The Faceless Clan’s quasi-immortal finally moved. “Divine Snaring Palm!” He drove a palm down and shattered the two spells at once, blasting a shockwave outward.
The Elven Race excelled at magic, not close combat, and the Faceless Clan exploited that weakness the moment the spells faltered.
The battlefield turned grotesque. Faceless Clan members surged forward and crushed the elves’ primordial spirits with ruthless efficiency, forcing them to collapse as they struck through their ranks. The Faceless Clan had waited for the elves to stand together because their opposing magic would drag their combat strength down at the worst possible time.
More elves fell injured, while the Faceless Clan’s own experts suffered damage to their primordial spirits in the exchange, leaving them unable to recover quickly. Without a quasi-immortal anchoring them, the battle would have turned into a one-sided massacre.
“Tian Can, now!” Liu Wuxie ordered.
The Faceless Clan’s suppression couldn’t shake Tian Can’s consciousness. The Heavenly Dao Book’s imprint had already anchored his primordial soul, and he charged into the fray without hesitation.
He slaughtered cleanly. Within a single exchange, the Faceless Clan took devastating losses.
Liu Wuxie raised a hand and released sacred light into his master’s soul sea, tearing the Divine Snare loose. Hua Feiyu shook free, regained control, and immediately joined the battle.
Holisse and Makurat still fought under suppression, unable to fully unleash their strength, but Tian Can and Hua Feiyu tilted the balance back toward the Elven Race. The tide began to turn, inch by inch.
A heavy presence descended in the sky as the Faceless Clan’s patriarch revealed himself. He hovered above the battlefield and stared straight at Liu Wuxie.
“Liu Wuxie, what are you doing here?!” he demanded. He wasn’t aware that Liu Wuxie had come to Elven Star. If he had known, he would never have launched this invasion.
His scouts had only reported that the light-lineage elves had begun a crusade against the dark-lineage elves. They hadn’t told him anything about Liu Wuxie, and he couldn’t understand why.
“Now that you know I’m here, retreat immediately,” Liu Wuxie demanded. He didn’t want the conflict to spiral beyond control. A prolonged war between quasi-immortals would turn Elven Star into a wasteland, and countless elves would lose their home.
More importantly, he still hadn’t resolved his inner demon. If the war dragged on, it could end in mutual destruction.
The patriarch let out a sinister laugh. “So what if you’re here? Since you showed up, you can perish with them!”
The Heavenly Dao Book countered the Faceless Clan too strongly, and once they saw Liu Wuxie, they could never allow him to leave.
“You want to kill me?” Liu Wuxie sneered. “Can’t you see how many quasi-immortals you’re facing?”
Between the Elven Race’s leadership, Tian Can, and Hua Feiyu, Liu Wuxie’s side held four quasi-immortals in total.
The Faceless Clan, on the other hand, had just a single quasi-immortal. Its only real edge lay in the Divine Snare’s suppression, and it had nothing beyond that.
Tian Can and Hua Feiyu pressed harder once they broke free, accelerating their assault and forcing the Faceless Clan back.
With a thunderous blast, Tian Can displayed pure ruthlessness and erased more than thirty faceless figures in one strike.
Hua Feiyu fought differently. He moved with restraint, suppressing and controlling rather than slaughtering indiscriminately. As the sect master of a superpower, he couldn’t afford to leave behind a stain of unchecked massacre.
Liu Wuxie didn’t share that concern.
“This is impossible! How are your primordial spirits unaffected?!” the Faceless Clan’s patriarch exclaimed, disbelief cracking through his voice.
He, himself had cast the Divine Snare, and it carried overwhelming might. By every rule he understood, Tian Can and Hua Feiyu should have buckled under it.
“Matriarch Holisse, Patriarch Makurat, I will impart the Dao of Yin and Yang to you now. Comprehend the laws of light and darkness and merge them,” Liu Wuxie instructed, choosing a different battlefield.
Since he couldn’t join the fight without risking his inner demon, he would steer the war by strengthening the Elven Race itself.
The Faceless Clan tried to interrupt him, but Tian Can drove them back, while Hua Feiyu’s domain descended and locked the sky, preventing the Faceless Clan’s patriarch from breaking through.
“Damn it… damn it all!” The patriarch roared and summoned more clansmen to stop Liu Wuxie. If the two lineages truly merged, the Faceless Clan would face its worst nightmare.
“Okay!” Holisse and Makurat answered together.
If Liu Wuxie truly carried the legacy of their two ancestors, then he held the knowledge they’d been missing for thousands of years.
They steadied their minds and prepared to accept what he would impart.
Liu Wuxie had already organized everything he had learned from the runes, including the method to break the Dark Curse. He sent two beams, one into Holisse’s soul sea, the other into Makurat’s.
The knowledge detonated the instant it entered.
Vast memories burrowed into them, flooding them with the research their ancestors had left behind. And more importantly they received the dao of yin and yang—light and dark.
Their expressions shifted repeatedly as disbelief shook them. When they finally looked at each other, both of them saw the same truth that they had walked the wrong path for thousands of years.
Liu Wuxie did it for a reason. He refused to drag the Human Race deeper into this feud. The Faceless Clan and the Elven Race had created this hatred together, so the Elven Race needed the strength to resolve it with its own hands.
In the next instant, pressure rose from Holisse and Makurat as white and black energies began to coil around their bodies.
Holisse’s aura began to carry traces of dark magic.
Makurat’s presence began to shine with the pressure of light.
The elves around them stared, stunned, unable to understand what they were witnessing.
Light and darkness intertwined like twin serpents, winding around each other until they started to fuse. The two forces that once repelled each other suddenly merged, and the wave of magical energy they released climbed to a terrifying height.
When Holisse and Makurat opened their eyes, both colors reflected in their pupils—black on the left, white on the right. The two hues twisted together as boundless magic lifted them into the air.
“Sacred Spirit Deity, descend!” Holisse declared, and her casting speed doubled instantly.
This time, the deity no longer appeared as pure white. Its body still carried sacred radiance, but black hair flowed down its back, and light and darkness stabilized each other within it.
“Dark Judgment!” Makurat struck in the same breath, and his spell now carried two colors as well. For the first time, his darkness no longer feared the light.
The ancient demonic god returned, a massive axe raised high as it swung with the force of splitting the heavens.
The moment Liu Wuxie saw that demonic god lift its axe, his domain stirred inside his soul sea. An axe imprint appeared behind him and resonated with the weapon in the demonic god’s hands.
Liu Wuxie didn’t summon it. The domain surfaced on its own, as if answering a call. That reaction told him the two axes shared a connection he still couldn’t name.
The Sacred Spirit Deity swept across heaven and earth. Faceless Clan members finally broke under the pressure and got dragged into boundless darkness, their forms collapsing as the spell consumed them.
Dark Judgment turned even more terrifying. When the axe fell, it erased hundreds of the Faceless Clan members in a single descent, turning their bodies into a massive pool of liquid that spilled across the battlefield like a tide.
