Dual Cultivation God Returns - Chapter 1011 - 1011: Time for swords to speak

But before this conversation could get more heated as the Elder of the Seven Extreme Sword Sect showed anger in his eyes, the gong of the arena rang, calling everyone to focus their attention on the fighting pit.
The announcer briefly introduced the fight, along with acknowledging the important guests, and then the tension began rising as silence and anticipation gradually descended on the entire arena.
The Disciple of the Seven Extreme Swords Sect seemed to be saying something, an arrogant look on his face, very resembling the one that the Inner Court Elder of his Sect had when talking to Wei Yuanjie.
But Duan Feng was completely unperturbed, and as always, tight-lipped to the extreme without uttering a word. He simply slowly raised up the sword still in its sheathe, to vertically hold it in front of his face, while his right hand gripped the handle from above.
‘Heh, this cheeky guy… still using that switch-hand trick. But then it’s not like I don’t understand him shackling himself as much as possible, after all…’, Wu Long inwardly chuckled, amusement appearing in his eyes, and then spoke in a voice only audible to Wei Yuanjie, “They really looked down on our friend, Yuanjie. That snotty kid in front of Duan Feng haven’t comprehended even a tiny bit of basic Sword Intent”
“Master Duan can use Sword Intent?”, the 9th prince raised his eyebrows, hearing about it for the first time.
“Hahaha, we’re in for some truly entertaining show of public humiliation of an entire Sword Sect”, Wu Long laughed as the gong rang once again.
The swords flashed, but the Sect Disciple’s confident smile almost instantly froze on his face. Just 3 sword exchanges, and as he jumped back his sleeves fell onto the ground of the fighting pit.
The audience gasped, since it didn’t look like Duan Feng even made much effort.
He stood there, with his sword, his face slightly turned to the side as he ‘felt’ his surroundings rather than seeing them, thus not requiring him to even really face his opponent.
That added to the insult, as that, coupled with his completely expressionless face as much of it could be seen, made him seem disinterested in this fight.
The Sect Disciple gritted his teeth and went for another, more aggressive style, but was pushed back and practically ran as his clothes began resembling tatters.
It was clear to everyone who the winner was, but the Sect Disciple couldn’t accept this humiliation, so he opted for battle of Sword Qi and Sword Qi Techniques, blades of Sword Qi appearing in the air around him as he started using the unique techniques of the Seven Exrtreme Swords Sect.
Yet, Duan Feng to the astonishment of the crowd did not take the same step, simply coating Sword Qi around his own sword as he slashed and cut through the flashy and versatile display of numerous attacks, moving steadily step by step forward, and eventually forcing the Sect Disciple to began backing away.
“Enough!!!”, a thunderous voice resounded over the entire arena, “Our Disciple admits his defeat”
The arena erupted in cheers, since no one really expected the blind man with no strong background to win against an elite Sect Disciple, exciting the crowd with the surprising upset.
The Sect Disciple had a devastated look on his face, and there was even a moment he seemed to want to object, but meeting the eyes of the Elder, bowed his head in loss.
Duan Feng simply sheathed his sword with the words, “Well fought”
“It seems we have underestimated you, Fellow Daoist, and you have picked up some tricks along your path. But can you really prove your Dao with a fight against one so much younger than yourself, even if of the same cultivation?”, the Elder’s voice rang out again, throwing doubt at the achievement and trying to embarrass the blind swordsman about his cultivation progress at his age compared to his opponent, Would you care accept the challenge of a more appropriate opponent?”
An older Disciple of the Seven Extreme Swords Sect stepped forward next to the Elder.
“I will”, was the short answer that caused the crowd to cheer even louder, as the excitement was going to continue.
The next fight, however, did not bring the Seven Extreme Swords Sect the results they sought, as their Disciple did not fair that much better than the first one. He only lasted 2 more exchanges on average.
They seem to have been prepared, as they now brought out a Disciple that was already quite close to Duan Feng in age, saying that they didn’t think Duan Feng could handle him so they did not bring him out earlier.
But that fight lasted no longer than the previous two. The only difference was in the number of exchanges the opponent lasted before needing to retreat in defeat and change tactics.
And came out an Inner Court Disciple, who forced Duan Feng to fight more seriously, but still lost in the end.
The next excuse of the Seven Extreme Swords Sect was that he was fighting Disciples, offering a fight against a Sect Protector.
For this fight, shocking the entire audience, and throwing the Sect Elders into fury, Duan Feng finally switched the hand holding the sword to his dominant left hand.
Next were three fights with Sect Protectors, which became increasingly challenging for the blind swordsman, but still ended in Duan Feng’s victories, which prompted the Seven Extreme Swords Sect to show signs of real frustration.
They could also no longer escape the embarrassment.
The 5th prince watched the scene with a completely pale, stone face and vacant look in his eyes. He tried to leave silently after the first fight, but was held back by his supporters who told him that it would be a mistake – it would make him look even more miserable. They also hoped that the second fight would turn better, as they did for all subsequent fights. But at this point even his supporters looked grim and gloomy, completely dispirited.
The Ember Palm Pavilion and Crystal Wood Sect, on the other hand, were having the time of their lives, being as loud, gleeful, and ridiculing as they could possibly be without risking pushing the other Sect too far and turning this place into an open conflict, but still pushing slightly against that boundary as if in defiance.
Then, a senior Sect Protector of the Seven Extreme Swords Sect put up a very good fight this time, and unlike all his predecessors, firstly did not switch to Sword Qi attacks and techniques after being bested in direct swordsmanship, and secondly, did not require the Elder to step in to admit defeat, doing so on his own.
The person who stepped out next was a Core Disciple of the Sect, the first opponent on that stage that comprehended rudimentary Sword Intent – a talent of the Sect that wasn’t even supposed to participate in everything happening on the continent, who only came here to ‘broaden his horizons’.
The pretext for this fight was that this wasn’t the decision of the Elders. It was the personal decision of this Disciple. This Core Disciple was appalled at the audacity of Duan Feng to try and humiliate his sect, and found it laughable that ‘just because he defeated some beginner swordsmen who didn’t really comprehend the sword’ Duan Feng has ‘deluded himself into feeling like and posing as a real swordsman’.
His whole arrogant demeanor, coupled with a clearly sharp aura around him, caused even the audience to anticipate that this fight would truly be different.
When the Core Disciple revealed his Sword Intent, the entire place gasped while the Ember Palm Pavilion and Crystal Wood Sect started loudly objecting that this was going overboard, while the Elders of the Seven Extreme Swords Sect ‘helplessly’ spread hands, insisting it was the Core Disciple’s own decision, which, to be precise was not entirely false as he felt annoyed by this ‘third-rate swordsman who is just a bit better than others’ hogging all this attention and being showered with praise, as well as damaging the reputation of his Sect.
The Core Disciple continued his arrogant talk for a long time, the entire time he was on the fighting ground, waiting for the gong signaling the start to ring, he was explaining why Duan Feng’s delusion of being an actual swordsman despite being a ‘frog in a well’ and a ‘country bumpkin’ who had a bit of skill which he magnanimously admitted, was so laughable.
And as the gong rang, and he bolted forward toward the blind swordsman, his eyes widened with shock and disbelief when he felt Sword Intent from the latter, exactly matching in intensity and sharpness his own.
That fight ended in a single exchange, as the Core Disciple’s sword blade was cut in two, causing thunderous roar of the arena spread throughout the Silver Wing City.
After a prolonged period of stunned, disbelieving shock, he almost flew into rage, embarrassing himself by trying to sneak attack Duan Feng after the fight was pronounced over and the latter already sheathed his sword, but he was saved from that humiliation by an Elder who came down to collect him, quietly and discreetly pressing on his acupoint pressure points.
