Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Heavenly Demon Clan -Zoey’s Anomaly
The moment Aiden laid eyes on the little girl in front of him, he froze.
Victor, Jenna, and Nellie -the first few to undergo the Golden Great Wall ritual -all emerged in a spirit-shaken state.
They looked as if they had just endured something deeply painful.
So Aiden took the ritual with serious respect.
But he never expected to see a tiny, innocent-looking child standing before him now.
“You’re here,” the little girl said. Her eyes sparkled, and a smile curled at the corners of her lips -she seemed genuinely happy.
Aiden didn’t answer. Instead, he carefully scanned the surroundings, wary.
“Don’t worry,” she said lightly, waving her hand. “It’s just you and me. No one else can hear us -not even Bella.”
The moment her hand moved, the world around them shifted completely.
Warm, comforting sunlight poured into every corner.
White flower petals drifted down from above, landing gently on Aiden’s shoulders.
He slowly lifted his head and found a massive tree towering above -its crown stretching hundreds of meters into the sky.
The ground beneath him had turned into soft grass, with dewdrops slowly sliding from the tips of the wild blades.
A sudden breeze rustled through, scattering more white petals into the air.
Up close, the petals looked a little odd: no bigger than a fingernail, their edges slightly curled. And at the center of each petal was a small raised shape -something like a six-pointed star.
“Where is this?”
Aiden whispered, almost without thinking.
The little girl smiled and replied, “Of course, we’re inside the Golden Great Wall.”
Aiden took a deep breath and focused hard. Every sense was vivid and real -his sight, his smell, his touch. It felt completely genuine.
“By the way, I haven’t even introduced myself yet.”
“My name is Zoey. It’s a name I picked for myself. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Aiden,” she said warmly.
Zoey slowly squatted down, then plopped comfortably onto the grass.
She leaned back, propping herself up with her arms, tilting her head to gaze at the massive tree above.
Aiden’s eyes shifted slightly. She had just said his name for the second time.
She knows my name, she recognizes Bella… Who exactly is this Zoey?
His mind raced. Was she a divine powerhouse from inside the Golden Great Wall?
Just then, Zoey took a deep breath, puffed out her cheeks, and blew hard toward the sky.
The gentle breeze instantly turned violent. White petals were swept down in a frenzy.
“Are you the divine powerhouse in charge of the ritual?” Aiden asked, unable to stay silent.
Zoey shook her head, watching the white petals fall like heavy snow. “Yesterday, when you first arrived here, I already said hello to you.”
Aiden’s pupils shrank tight.
She wasn’t a divine powerhouse, yet she was inside the Golden Great Wall’s ritual, and she had greeted him yesterday.
Could she actually be the Golden Great Wall itself?
“To be precise,” Zoey explained softly, “I am the spirit of the Golden Great Wall’s Sacred Artifact.”
Sacred Artifact spirit?
The Golden Great Wall was a Sacred Artifact!
After all, the mighty Dawn Society only went to the Great Shaw Empire to get a single Sacred Artifact fragment.
Earlier, at the Miko temple, divine powerhouses from the Dawn Society also showed up, all in search of those fragments.
Even Irene was hunted by the high Demon God, Belith, just because she knew where the Swarm’s secret treasure -the Demi-Sacred Artifact called the Transmutation Altar -was hidden.
If Wraith Jack hadn’t shown up, she would have been captured by Belith long ago.
The importance and rarity of a Sacred Artifact need no explanation.
“It seems you know something about Sacred Artifacts. That’s good. It saves me from having to explain too much,” Zoey said.
“The Golden Great Wall is indeed a Sacred Artifact. However, it lacks its core, so it can’t use its true powers. If it were complete, even if every member of the Demon Clan attacked, none of them could reach the walls of the Golden Great Wall.”
Zoey let out a sigh.
Aiden immediately thought of Bella’s request.”Myriad Spirit Flower?” he asked.
Zoey shook her head. “The Myriad Spirit Flower only keeps me from falling into a deep sleep.”
“Forcing myself awake this time had a cost. But since I get to meet you, it was all worth it.”
Hearing this, Aiden took a deep breath.
Why did this spirit of the Golden Great Wall’s Sacred Artifact feel like she knew him?
He’d felt this same strange sense before, back when he met the highest Miko’s Wraithshard and when he encountered Wraith Jack.
“Who am I? Or… who do you think I am?”
“What exactly is on me that you’re all looking for?”
Aiden was tired of guessing.
He just wanted to know the secrets behind the highest Miko’s Wraithshard, Wraith Jack, and this Zoey standing before him.
“I don’t know who you are,” she said simply.
“In my limited memory, a great existence once instructed me: after they vanished, if I ever met someone who felt familiar again, I must protect them at all costs. But I also had to be careful not to interfere too much, or something terrible would happen.”
Zoey spoke all of this in one breath.
Yet, after hearing her, Aiden felt even more lost.
A great existence? Something terrible?
Aiden let out a heavy sigh and sat down beside her, helplessly saying, “Can you just give me some useful information? Do you know the highest Miko and Wraith Jack?”
Zoey nodded. She had some memories of the highest Miko; it seemed the Miko had visited the Golden Great Wall a very long time ago.
As for Wraith Jack, Zoey knew him as “The Omniscient.” It appeared he had a close relationship with the great existence she remembered.
“That’s all I can remember,” she added sadly. “If we could find the core of the Golden Great Wall, I would remember more.”
Aiden began thinking hard in his mind. Could all of this be connected to the Bane of All Races ring he had obtained?
After all, when he first met the highest Miko’s Wraithshard, that entity had said Aiden carried something belonging to an old acquaintance.
Now, it seemed most likely that “that thing” was the Bane of All Races ring.
“Perhaps the ’old acquaintance’ the highest Miko’s Wraithshard mentioned is the great existence Zoey talked about,” Aiden thought, his eyes lighting up slightly.
Now, he felt many things were finally connected. But even with what he knew, there wasn’t enough information to uncover the full truth behind it all.
According to Zoey, if they could find the core of the Golden Great Wall, she would remember more.
However, if it were that simple, Bella—the strongest human—would have already done it long ago.
Aiden’s eyes shifted slightly as a thought crossed his mind. He quickly made a judgment and spoke up. “If I’m not guessing wrong, the core of the Golden Great Wall isn’t on Earth, is it?”
“Otherwise, with Bella and the other divine powerhouses, they certainly would have found the core for you.”
Zoey nodded slowly. “That’s right. Bella has been looking for the core for me.”
“But because the Abyss Demon could invade at any moment, she can’t leave Earth to go to the Abyss very often.”
“If you ever get the chance, you could try,” she suggested.
“According to the information we have, the core is likely sealed on the Dragon Clan’s Dragon Island, or somewhere deep within the Dark Elf Kingdom.”
Aiden’s lips twitched stiffly.
Bella and the other divine powerhouses couldn’t do it; how could he possibly succeed?
However, the mention of the Dragon Island piqued Aiden’s curiosity. Since Faye is the Heaven-Devouring Mystic Dragon with a mysterious background, learning more about the Dragon Clan might prove useful later.
Suddenly, Aiden remembered what Irene had mentioned earlier about enslaving the Dragon Clan.
“Did you know that the Dragon Clan was once enslaved?” he asked.
In an instant, everything around them froze.
The dewdrops about to fall from the grass, the white petals drifting down from the sky—they all stopped in mid-air, as if time had been paused.
Zoey’s expression shifted wildly, going from confusion to sheer, unmasked panic and fear in a split second.
“Heavenly Demon Clan! It was the Heavenly Demon Clan!”
“The ones almost responsible for wiping out humanity were them!”
“How do you know the Dragon Clan was enslaved by the Heavenly Demon Clan? Have they resurrected?”
“It’s over. It’s all over!”
“What about the Divine Machine Clan? Have they awakened?”
“Now, in a situation like this, if they aren’t here, the entire Earth and the entire Abyss will be destroyed by those crazy, terrifying Heavenly Demon Clan!”
Zoey’s bright eyes went dim. Her body trembled, and her voice shook with fear.
Seeing this, Aiden’s face turned very serious.
He had only mentioned that the Dragon Clan was once enslaved, and Zoey reacted like this.
It proved just how terrifying and oppressive the Heavenly Demon Clan truly was.
“No wonder Irene said the strongest Heaven-Devouring Mystic Dragon, the God-Emperor, wanted to lead the Dragon Clan in a rebellion but was killed in a single strike.”
“I can’t even imagine how powerful that God-Emperor really is.”
Aiden took a deep breath.
He quickly spoke up to comfort her. “The Heavenly Demon Clan hasn’t awakened yet. I just happened to hear about the Dragon Clan by chance.”
“Calm down.”
The moment Aiden finished speaking, Zoey’s trembling body froze.
She slowly turned her head and stared fixedly at Aiden.
Then, her body suddenly began to flicker at high speed.
In just 0.1 seconds, thousands upon thousands of human figures split out from her body.
Before Aiden could figure out what was happening, all those human figures turned their heads to look at him at the exact same moment.
