Chapter 2763 – Where the Peach Blossoms Pass, Nothing Grows, Not Even an Inch of Grass
The boy in green sat there, breathing hard, face ashen.
As the spirit of Great Sorrow, he’d accompanied a Heavenly Sovereign in battle during the Devastation. He’d seen numerous Heavenly Sovereigns at the peak of Eternity, and he’d visited numerous strange and taboo mysterious zones throughout the River of Destiny.
He’d witnessed countless battles and feasted on the blood of countless powerful foes.
He was at his most glorious during the End of the Devastation, when Great Sorrow destroyed an Eternal Throne and severely injured multiple Heavenly Sovereigns!
It was a battle unlike anything ever seen in the River of Destiny, akin to an apocalypse!
During that battle, six Heavenly Sovereigns lost their lives.
It was that battle that marked the end of the Devastation and the first days of the New Beginning.
After all that, at least in terms of his horizons and breadth of experience, the boy in green was comparable to Heavenly Sovereign.
But he’d never experienced such dread or despair before!
He’d never seen such an unimaginably terrifying existence before!
It seemed to the boy that even Heavenly Sovereigns would have no choice but to kneel before him!
The boy silently tried to comfort himself. Has my sword heart shattered? If not, how could I have been scared so badly? And how could I possibly think this stranger was more terrifying than a Heavenly Sovereign?
“Relax,” said the heart devil. “Your sword heart hasn’t broken. Even if it had, I could help you fix it.”
The heart devil sat nearby, placed Great Sorrow across his lap, lay his head on his hands, and smiled at the boy in green. “And your senses do not deceive you. It’s only natural that every sword spirit in this world feels terror before me; it would be stranger if you didn’t.”
The boy in green laughed coldly to himself. Who doesn’t know how to boast? But your boasts are so exaggerated that they’re obviously just bullshit!
Everyone knows that if a sword spirit’s sword heart shatters, they’ll perish. That’s common knowledge on the River of Destiny.
And what the hell do you mean, ‘every sword spirit in the world feels terror before you?’ Feh!
I’m a sword spirit as experienced as a true Heavenly Sovereign. Do you think I’m an idiot?
I’d have to have a hole in my brain to believe crap like that!
The heart devil flicked the boy on the forehead, leaving a dent in his skull. The boy grimaced in agony.
He was just about to say something when his heart filled with terror. He’d just realized that the heart devil could sense what he was thinking!
The heart devil sat upright and drew his finger along the flat of Great Sorrow.
An unbelievable scene unfolded. All of the fine cracks covering the blade vanished, and within the snow-white metal, faint, blood-red hues appeared, like peach blossoms blooming amidst the snow.
Great Sorrow let out a clear, impassioned hum, like the sonorous cries of a phoenix.
The boy in green froze and stared, unblinking.
Great Sorrow had been badly damaged during the End of the Devastation. Its source power had shattered, leaving only a fragment intact.
Even worse, the blade was covered in countless cracks. What remained of its source power continuously flowed away.
During its long years sealed beneath the Mountain of Bitter Remains, most of its remaining source power had flowed away. It was on the verge of running dry.
The boy in green knew that so long as the cracks remained, Great Sorrow would one day be reduced to scrap iron.
Moreover, the boy knew that he was helpless to prevent this.
He was a sword spirit. He couldn’t mend the Great Sorrow’s blade, and when it broke, he’d be destroyed with it!
Yet now, the heart devil had restored the cracked blade just by drawing his fingers over it!
The heart devil glanced down at the “blood” seeping from the hilt and whispered, “Releasing your baleful energy like this is tasteless, you know.”
As he spoke, a dreamlike rain of light arose at his fingertips, and the bloody hilt silently transformed.
In the end, it turned black, with a blood-red peach blossom insignia.
The petals surged with dense but withdrawn bloody light, lending the peach blossom a profound solemnity.
But when the heart devil exerted his strength, the flower at the hilt bloomed. Countless ferocious, explosive, and terrifying peach blossoms of blood-red light scattered.
Like a blizzard of blood-red flowers.
Only then did the heart devil nod in satisfaction.
The boy in green watched from not far away, completely gobsmacked. There was no hiding the astonishment on his face.
Great Sorrow was a sword fit for an Eternal Sovereign!
It had once cleaved apart an Eternal Throne, and it had taken the heads of countless enemies. It had slain ancient celestial demons, and it had bathed in the blood of sovereigns!
Who could have imagined that someone would fix its damaged blade so easily, or transform its bleeding hilt in the blink of an eye?
“The sword’s name is too wretched. Now, it’s received a new life, and it will one day stand over the world. It needs a new, more fitting name,” murmured the heart devil. “They say that where the peach blossoms pass, nothing grows, not even an inch of grass. Why not call it ‘Peach Blossom?’”
The boy in green grimaced and clutched his head. “What a stupid, girly name! How did you come up with it?”
“Hm?” said the heart devil.
The boy in green shuddered, his expression shifted erratically. In the end, he decided to go against his heart and slap himself on the mouth. “I’m too coarse and unrefined. Now that I’ve cleaned the gunk out of my eyes and thought about it again, I think that name is too wondrous for words!
“Peach blossoms bloom like spattered blood, and sword qi arcs through the air. What could be more romantic?
“Senior, you chose the name casually, and it’s just two words, but they’re like the work of a master, the flourish that brings a masterpiece to life. How fortunate this sword is to have received such a name!”
The boy’s face was full of admiration, emotion, and praise.
The heart devil looked gratified. “That’s right. You’re teachable indeed. Now, I’ll give you a choice. As this sword’s spirit, there’s something I want you to do for me.
“Refuse, and I’ll erase your awareness and fuse your essence back into the sword.”
The boy’s heart clenched. He asked tentatively, “What do you want?”
“Come closer,” said the heart devil, beckoning to him. The boy in green forcefully suppressed his unease and leaned in to listen.
After hearing the heart devil’s request, the boy exclaimed, “That’ll really work?”
The heart devil sighed. “Don’t think it’ll be simple. He’s not the type to ask for help, no matter what happens, and his heart is firmer than a Heavenly Sovereign’s. If you want to defeat him, you’ll have to use the special method I told you.”
The boy in green stood there in a daze, then murmured, “Only now do I realize that we’ve suffered the same misfortune. Rest assured, senior. Leave it to me!”
“Good! I really didn’t misjudge you.” The heart devil patted the boy on the shoulder. “Just to be safe, I’ll plant a seal in your body. Then you can take Peach Blossom and leave.”
“A seal?” The boy’s heart tensed. “Can… I refuse?”
The heart devil laughed. “It’s too late. I placed it already.”
“When?” The boy looked stricken.
The heart devil patted him on the shoulder. “Just now. I trust you don’t mind, right?”
Fuck you! Fuck your granddaddy! How could I not mind? You’re terrible! Inwardly, the boy cursed him out, but on the outside, he plastered a smile across his face. “I just hope you’ll keep your promise when we succeed, Senior.”
Whap!
The boy took a sharp blow to the back of his head.
The heart devil laughed. “Did you forget that I can hear your thoughts?”
The boy instantly looked awkward.
……
Half a month later, Su Yi awakened from his meditation.
The Laws of the Will of the Heavens could no longer suppress him in the slightest.
It was also then that Su Yi finally sensed an obvious increase to his cultivation. He’d gone from the early stage of the Unfettered Realm to the mid stage!
It might have seemed like a minor boost, but to Su Yi, it meant an earth-shaking transformation!
His foundations were so strong that every increase in cultivation was immensely difficult. He needed far more resources than others of the same level.
More importantly, his Eternal cultivation was starkly different from other people’s. If all he did was cultivate bitterly in seclusion, it wouldn’t matter how many resources he burned through; there was still no guarantee he’d see any improvement.
In the vast majority of factions, old monsters, their disciples, and their grand-disciples had differences in seniority, but their cultivation bases were the same. In some cases, the old monsters were even inferior to their disciples and grand-disciples.
This was because cultivating the Eternal Dao wasn’t simply a matter of time and cultivation resources. You needed an adequate spirit root, talent, strong powers of comprehension, good fortune, and fortuitous encounters… and none of them could be lacking!
Su Yi had managed to improve his cultivation so unusually quickly because he’d seized an opportunity to clash with the Laws of the mundane world!
To him, the Huaihuang Empire was like a blessed ground for cultivation, the kind that could only be happened upon by chance.
But he’d paid an enormous price for his improvement. By now, he’d used up practically all of his cultivation resources, including more than half of his Eternal Sources.
“I wonder if Mu Qing and the others are still waiting outside.” Su Yi got up and glanced at the sky.
“I’m sure there are numerous death traps and ambushes waiting for us outside. We shouldn’t rush to leave,” said Pu Xuan.
The way he saw it, since they knew danger was waiting for them outside, they could just stay here and see who gave up first!
After all, Eternals’ lifespans were endless. What was there to be afraid of?
Besides, as time passed and word spread across the Blue Peak Continent, it would inevitably lead to unpredictable variables.
When an opportunity arose, they could take advantage of the chaos to escape.
If they stayed here, given Su Yi’s strength, anyone who tried to attack them would be doomed!
After all, Su Yi had defeated even Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s clone!
“Relax. I only just broke through, and I can feel the suppression of the Laws again. I don’t want to wait indefinitely, but I naturally won’t rush to leave right away.” Su Yi took out a jug of wine and had a sip.
Pu Xuan sat by a stream and started fishing.
Just like that, another month passed.
Suddenly, Su Yi rose from his meditation and sighed.
He’d burned through all his cultivation resources, even his Eternal Sources.
Furthermore, contending with the Laws could no longer help him boost his cultivation. He’d barely made any progress over the past month, and he was still a considerable distance from the late-stage Unfettered Realm.
According to Pu Xuan, making such improvements in just a month or so was an extraordinary, astonishing feat by the standards of the River of Destiny.
After all, the vast majority of Eternals had no guarantee of progress even after ten thousand years of bitter effort.
Later that day, Su Yi decided to take Pu Xuan and leave the Huaihuang Empire.
