First Immortal of the Sword - Chapter 2810 - A Paper Bag Cannot Stop a Fire

Chapter 2810 – A Paper Bag Cannot Stop a Fire
Atop the Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform, after transmitting her warning, Xia Rouyun retracted her gaze and sat up straight.
She initially assumed that Li Muchen wouldn’t be able to resist asking follow-up questions, and she was already planning how best to close the distance between them.
Who could have guessed that even after waiting a long time, she would receive no response at all?
In the end, she was the first to give in. She couldn’t help but take another look at him.
But Li Muchen’s eyes were tightly shut. He seemed to have forgotten himself completely.
He really is different from other men, Xia Rouyun thought with a smile. She said no more.
It was important to know when to stop. She had already tossed out her bait; now she just had to wait until the fish decided to bite.
She most certainly didn’t want Li Muchen to see her as a nuisance.
Su Yi was indeed ignoring her on purpose. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to ask for further details, but that he knew that even if Xia Rouyun knew a little, there was no way she knew the specifics of his enemies’ death trap.
After all, no matter how lofty her position in the Eternal Lightning Court was, she was ultimately just an Unfettered Realm disciple.
Her warning was already enough for Su Yi.
“You’re worried that you’ve already fallen into a trap, but you don’t know where the danger’s coming from, right?” Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep transmitted suddenly. “Why not just overturn the table and launch a massacre?”
“It isn’t time for that yet,” said Su Yi. “Our enemies need time to prepare, while I need to master the Nine Luminaries Edict as soon as possible.”
That was why Su Yi wasn’t willing to overturn the table just yet.
He was concerned about the danger surrounding him on all sides, but he was much more concerned about the Nine Luminaries Edict!
“I sensed them earlier. The nine Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms are similar to other Dao Contemplation Platforms. They can help cultivators enter a state of enlightenment. The mysteries of the Grand Dao that they can glean insight into here all originate from the Starry Stele,” said Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep. “The stele really is extraordinary. It isn’t at all simple. It contains seemingly endless Laws of the Grand Dao, all of them connected to the stars.
“Even if the Nine Luminaries Edict is in there somewhere, searching for it would be like trying to fish a needle out of the ocean.”
Su Yi smiled. “That’s to be expected. If it were easy to find, how could it have remained undiscovered all this time?”
He paused, then said, “I’ll just have to try it.”
Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep fell briefly silent, then said suddenly, “I have severe Dao Wounds, and the ‘Old Lord Gouchen’ you speak of transformed me into a sheep. If you run into life-threatening danger, I won’t be able to do much for you.”
Su Yi was stunned. He chuckled. “Just do what you can. I’ll appreciate whatever you can offer. Besides, the worst case scenario here is that Lu Hongpao doesn’t acknowledge me; there’s no way I’ll die here.”
Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep said no more on the matter. “Then go ahead and try your luck with the Starry Stele!”
“Got it!” Su Yi cast aside his scattered thoughts, then immediately entered a state of enlightenment.
Practically simultaneously, the sheep hidden within the black medallion silently sent out a wisp of her divine awareness.
……
The area around the Starry Stele fell silent. No one disturbed Su Yi.
As for Fu Lingyun? Many of the onlookers were tempted to seize her spot, but when they considered the consequences of offending Li Muchen, none of them had the guts.
Mo Lanhe watched from a distance, deeply gratified.
It was true that Li Muchen and Fu Lingyun had offended too many experts of the Five Great Continents to count.
But Mo Lanhe didn’t care. Worst case scenario, he died here, and he had been prepared to die from the moment they left!
…
Yun Qiaojun, Wen Xiuran, and Liu Tianchen had just barely passed through the gates of the Ancient Nine Luminaries City, but they already sensed a lot of inexplicable hostility directed their way.
Many of those they passed looked at them with cold, playful eyes.
They found it baffling.
As cultivators of the Literati Continent, they were mentally prepared to keep a low profile throughout their time in the city.
They would never have guessed that they’d feel like sheep among wolves from the moment they arrived, before they even got the chance to do anything. It was deeply unsettling.
Eventually, Yun Qiaojun worked up the courage to ask a passerby what was going on. Only then did they understand.
All of this was because of Li Muchen!
He had entered the city, then suppressed Xue Chuang, defeated Xun Jiu’an, and dueled Dong Liujia!
In the end, Li Muchen singlehandedly seized two Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms, astonishing the entire city.
Yun Qiaojun, Wen Xiuran, Liu Tianchen, and their Dao Protectors were unwittingly stunned.
“Fellow Daoist Li was really so ferocious…?” Liu Tianchen looked dazed.
“Even a heaven-defying figure like Dong Liujia said that one hero recognizes another?” murmured Wen Xiuran. The idea seemed utterly absurd, as if someone were telling the most ridiculous of tall tales.
“Throughout the ages, no cultivator of the Literati Continent has ever claimed a Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform, let alone done what Li Muchen has,” Yun Qiaojun said with a sigh.
Liu Tianchen said, “I’m honored to have once traveled with him!”
Suddenly, cold laughter rang out. “Oh? You take honor in your association with him? Does that mean you’re close to him?”
A group of cultivators of the Five Great Continents appeared in the distance, all of them with unfriendly looks on their faces.
The leader, a man in a feather coat, made no attempt to disguise his hostility.
Yun Qiaojun and the others could tell at a glance that these were members of Sevendeaths Court!
“I wouldn’t say we’re close,” said Yun Qiaojun, neither aggressive nor servile. “We just traveled together.”
“Is that so?” the man in the feather coat said slowly. “If you’re so happy to have traveled with him, why not guess how he’ll respond after we’ve beaten you to a pulp? Do you think he’ll stick out his neck for you?”
Yun Qiaojun, Wen Xiuran, and Liu Tianchen inwardly cried out in alarm.
The man in the feather coat pointed to their Dao Protectors. “Listen up! In the Ancient Nine Luminaries City, you aren’t permitted to intervene in disputes between Unfettered Realm cultivators. Otherwise, you’d all die miserable deaths!”
With that, he waved his hand. “Go on. Teach them how to behave!”
Yun Qiaojun, Wen Xiuran, and Liu Tianchen were shocked and furious.
Their Dao Protectors felt stifled to the extreme, and they were at a complete loss. They had no idea what to do.
The cultivators of Sevendeaths Court stepped forth and were just about to attack when a figure appeared out of nowhere, blocking their path.
He was tall and thin, and he wore a pine-marked cloud crown. This was none other than Dong Liujia!
He just stood there, but the cultivators of Sevendeaths Court instantly stopped in place. None dared advance any further.
“You lost to my Big Brother Li, leaving your reputation in shambles. Now you’re seriously going to vent your fury on innocents?” Dong Liujia sneered. “Are all of Sevendeaths Court’s disciples as useless as you?”
The man in the feather coat said solemnly, “Daoist Brother Dong, this has nothing to do with you, so why get involved?”
Dong Liujia suddenly raised his hand, and… a loud whap echoed out.
The man in the feather coat took a slap to the face, sending him rolling over backward, blood spurting from his mouth and nose.
Only then did Dong Liujia respond. “Don’t call me your Daoist Brother. I don’t have any brothers as useless as you.”
The Sevendeaths Court disciples’ expressions were as unsightly as could be.
A woman laughed coldly. “Strange. When did you become Li Muchen’s lackey? Don’t tell me he shattered your spine in your earlier duel?”
Dong Liujia’s expression froze. He couldn’t help but recall what had happened in the Five Elements Combat Realm.
Before the battle began, he said, “Here, we can fight to our heart’s content, and there’ll be no shame in losing!”
He then proceeded to have the crap beaten out of him.
A single punch left him seeing stars, blood spurting from his mouth and nose as his head buzzed.
Before he could respond, a second punch slammed him into the ground. There was no telling how many of his bones snapped on impact.
His skin tore, and his flesh broke. Soon, he was shrieking like a dying pig.
He begged for mercy to no avail.
It was only when he frantically promised to give Li Muchen all of his Falling Star Stones that the beating finally ended.
In the end, for the sake of saving face, he practically threw himself to his knees and begged. Only then did he just barely manage to convince Li Muchen to agree to call their match a draw.
When that woman said that Li Muchen had “shattered his spine,” Dong Liujia felt as if she were rubbing salt in his wounds. His heart was full of grief and fury.
Bang!!!
He flashed through the air and suppressed the woman with a single slap.
But that wasn’t enough to satisfy him, so he ruthlessly stomped her beautiful face into the dirt.
Only then did he smile and say, “According to the rules, even if I were to disqualify each and every one of you, it would just be considered a competition for the Grand Dao. Sevendeaths Court wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.”
He paused. “Care to try me?”
No one responded to his challenge.
The woman whose head he was stepping on quivered uncontrollably.
Dong Liujia helped her up, then carefully wiped the footprint off her face.
“I’m sure you heard that I’m soft on women and that I hate nothing more than seeing women suffer,” Dong Liujia said with heartache. “I might have hit you this time, but it was for your own good. Were this the outside world, you’d have been dead by now!”
The woman glared hatefully at him, her face full of dread, humiliation, and lingering terror.
She understood what Dong Liujia was trying to say. If you’d died, you wouldn’t have “suffered” in the slightest!
In the end, the disciples of Sevendeaths Court slinked off in disgrace.
Yun Qiaojun and the others stood there in a daze. Disaster descended from the heavens, but he resolved it just like that?
Dong Liujia turned to smile at them. “Everyone, this had nothing to do with you. I just didn’t like the look of them.”
He then invited them to chat further, as he wanted to know more about Li Muchen.
Yun Qiaojun and the others exchanged glances. All of them were hesitant.
They naturally could tell that, despite his insistence to the contrary, Dong Liujia had intervened because of Li Muchen. They knew several of Li Muchen’s secrets, and there was absolutely no way they could divulge them.
But it was then that Dong Liujia received a message. After reading it, he sank into silence.
The message contained two pieces of information.
First, Xue Sheng of Sevendeaths Court and his Dao Protector had both died by Li Muchen’s hand.
Second, Li Muchen had killed fourteen disciples of Limitless Palace, and their Dao Protectors, too!
Including Wu Xun, a heaven-defying monster!
And Wu Xun had been Dong Liujia’s junior apprentice brother.
Inwardly, Dong Liujia grumbled, Wu Xun was as meek as a grandson in front of me, but outside the sect, he was as arrogant as the king of heaven himself. He brought his death on himself!
