Chapter 2819 – A Wisp of Light in the Landscape of the Heart
Old Man Ru Ya reacted fastest, instantly lunging at Su Yi.
Boom!
Countless crystalline, resplendent skulls whooshed forth, condensing into a thirty-three-story treasure tower that suppressed everything on all sides. This was the power of a Heavenly Monarch. It was unbelievably terrifying.
Su Yi instantly felt an impending lethal threat bearing down on him.
He didn’t even need to think to know that he couldn’t block this head on; if he tried, he’d be little different from a mantis trying to stop a chariot. He’d inevitably be crushed!
But he wasn’t at all panicked. He naturally wouldn’t have come to the third level of the Sin-Severing Dungeon unprepared. More importantly, he could now say something with certainty—the little girl wouldn’t just let him die. This was more than just instinct. This was an accurate judgment based on the current situation.
Indeed, the little girl intervened at a critical juncture, raising her hands and grabbing.
Heaven and earth swayed, and the air shattered on all sides. The thirty-three-story white bone tower instantly collapsed.
Old Man Ru Ya was mere inches from Su Yi when his body split into pieces. Fury and bitterness were written all over his aged face. He roared, “If you dare to give her a name, you’ll inevitably suffer a backlash. She’ll reduce you to a helpless puppet, and…”
Boom!
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, his body shattered into a bundle of gray mist, which the girl tossed into her stomach.
Si Xuanpin didn’t move. He just looked at Su Yi, his expression complicated. “I don’t believe you’re capable of taking her away, but if you are, you absolutely must not do so. If you do, you won’t be the only one to suffer. The whole world will—”
Bang!!
Si Xuanpin’s body shattered into pieces, transforming into a bundle of misty red light. Soon, the little girl had devoured him too.
All of it happened in the blink of an eye, so quick that it seemed unbelievable.
Everything returned to stillness. The little girl acted as if she’d done something perfectly ordinary, even trivial. Her eyes were clear and guileless. “Big Brother, they won’t threaten you anymore now.”
Her clothes were ragged, and her frame was frail and gaunt, while her eyes were bright and clear. Who could have imagined that a little girl like this could effortlessly suppress and kill the three most terrifying Sin Souls in the third level of the Sin-Severing Dungeon?
Strangest of all, Su Yi couldn’t tell how exactly she’d done it. She’d just suppressed Liu Sheng, Old Man Ru Ya, and Si Xuanpin like it was nothing. As effortless as crushing three ants.
All of this left Su Yi stunned. His Dao Heart was as firm as iron, and he had seen all manner of strange occurrences over the years, but when he looked at the girl standing quietly before him, his heart nonetheless struggled to calm down.
Just what kind of monster is this?
When Su Yi didn’t respond, the little girl pondered solemnly, then said, “Don’t worry, Big Brother. The three of them died a long time ago. Those were just their Sin Souls, that’s all.”
She opened her hand, and wisps of firelight rose into the air. Each was as fine as a strand of hair, and all of them were different colors. There were over one hundred of them, and they swayed in midair like seagrass. Upon closer inspection, there was a figure reflected in each strand of firelight. There was the black-robed saber cultivator, Liu Sheng, and the hunched Old Man Ru Ya, the tall, stalwart Si Xuanpin… and numerous other men and women.
“Sin Souls cannot disappear completely with me here,” said the girl as if simply stating a fact. “To me, they’re like… dolls. They’re the only things saving me from boredom. I naturally wouldn’t just destroy them.”
Dolls? Su Yi blinked. Cultivators fear Sin Souls like mortals fear vicious beasts and natural disasters, yet to her, they’re no more than toys to kill time with?
He took a sip of wine, then sat directly on the dungeon floor. “Might we chat for a bit?”
“Mm,” said the girl. She flipped her hand, and the firelight vanished completely. Then, she took a seat, gathering the hems of her clothes in her hands, and sat there timidly, head lowered.
Su Yi felt that familiar feeling once more. Back on the second level of the dungeon, the moment he first laid eyes on the girl, Su Yi got the distinct sense that she was deliberately feigning weakness and acting pathetic. Moreover, it seemed she looked at him differently than she did other people. She seemed awed! This was in stark contrast with the calm nonchalance with which she faced the Sin Souls.
Now that they were the only two people left, Su Yi could even sense the nervousness deep within her heart!
“Are you afraid of me?” he asked directly.
The girl lowered her head. “I’m not afraid, it’s just…”
She racked her brains for a while before saying slowly, “I’m just uncertain and ill at ease. My instincts tell me that you have the power to destroy me with ease, as well as the ability to bring me out of here.”
Her clear, guileless eyes gazed intently at him. “I’ve lived here for a long, long time, and I’ve seen countless people from the outside world, but the only other person to give me a similar feeling was a man named Jiang Wuchen.”
Jiang Wuchen!!! Su Yi’s heart shook.
The little girl furrowed her brow in thought. “But although Jiang Wuchen made me uneasy, the feeling was nowhere near as intense as the one you give me, Big Brother.”
“Why didn’t you ask him to take you with him?” asked Su Yi.
The little girl shook his head. “He’s a good person. If I’d gone with him, I’d have hurt him.”
Su Yi blinked. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Are you saying that I don’t look like a good person, so you don’t care if you hurt me?
“Actually…” The girl hesitated, but ultimately decided to tell the truth. “Even just giving him the Laws of Rahu was enough to give me a guilty conscience. I knew that his powers of the Dao and his Dao Heart were completely incompatible with the Laws of Rahu, and that should problems arise in his heart, the Laws of Rahu would seize the opportunity to invade.”
If the Dao Heart was a dam, then the Laws of Rahu were like floodwaters. When the dam broke, the waters would burst through the opening.
Su Yi naturally understood this principle.
He had no way of knowing what had caused the problems with Jiang Wuchen’s Dao Heart, but he knew that his heart devil, the Malevolent Sword Venerate, was malevolent to the very core of his being. He was starkly different from Jiang Wuchen. Perhaps that was connected to the Laws of Rahu.
“The Sin Souls insisted that I shouldn’t help you leave,” said Su Yi. “They said that doing so wouldn’t just hurt me; it would hurt everyone beneath the heavens. What do you have to say to that?”
He gazed into those clear, innocent eyes as if trying to see through the deepest recesses of the little girl’s heart.
The little girl pursed her lips. “If they’d tried to help me leave, they’d have died, but in truth, that’s because they weren’t capable of helping me. But you’re different, Big Brother! And I’m too afraid you’ll kill me if I displease you to even think of hurting you.”
The girl’s face was full of anxiety. “I don’t know how to explain. If you don’t believe me, you can enter my heart and see for yourself.”
She looked up at him, waves of inscrutable power rippling from her body. “You have a Heart Soul and the Light of the Heart. You have no need to fear me influencing your Dao Heart, so feel free to have a look.”
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. She’s long since seen through the secrets of my heart!? Since I’ve arrived in the Eternal Heavens Domain, no one, not even Lu Hongpao herself, has managed to figure that out. Yet now, this little girl has sensed my Heart Soul!
Su Yi pondered briefly, then separated a wisp of heart power and sent it into the little girl’s Dao Heart.
He instantly felt as if he’d arrived in a world like a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. Heaven and earth were shrouded in darkness, and the ground was piled high with bones. Oceans of blood enveloped the earth, and windstorms of dense, malevolent energy swept across the landscape. All living beings had withered and perished, and all Daos had crumbled and collapsed. It was like a vision of the apocalypse, suffocating and oppressive.
Amidst all the devastation, a dried-up well was tucked into an unobtrusive corner. A little girl sat beside it, arms wrapped around her knees and head lowered. Her whole body quivered with uncontrollable terror; she didn’t dare to even look at the blood-soaked, apocalyptic landscape around her. It was only tucked into the corner beside the dried-up well that she felt safe.
But safe or not, that corner was like a prison. Endless bloodshed and sin surrounded her thoroughly on all sides. No matter where she looked, there was no way out. All she could do was curl up beside the well, all alone, gazing at the endless sin and bloodshed.
When the power of Su Yi’s heart appeared, it was like a beam of light tearing through the bloodshed and depravity, illuminating that tiny corner of this devastated, apocalyptic world.
The little girl curled in the corner looked startled. She had grown accustomed to the darkness, and she thought the whole world was bloody and sinful, so the sudden appearance of light filled her with terror and unease. She clutched the hems of her clothes and pressed her back up against the well. It seemed that if the light drew any closer, she would toss herself into the well.
But as time passed, the little girl slowly calmed down. She had discovered that the beam of light had torn open a rift amidst the bloodshed and sin. It was like a path out of this apocalyptic world! That aside, when the beam of light shone down on her, it illuminated the dried-up well behind her, too.
In the little girl’s eyes, the whole world instantly seemed rejuvenated. It brimmed with new and different colors and vitality! It was no longer bloody and devastated. It was no longer dark and depraved!
The little girl suddenly found the courage to raise her hand and grasp the light. When Su Yi saw this, he withdrew his power.
The scene he’d just witnessed was a reflection of the deepest recesses of the little girl’s heart. It wasn’t something she could just shift or hide at whim.
What he’d just witnessed came as an enormous shock.
She was the spirit of the Laws of Rahu, but she wasn’t an incarnation of the Laws. She was a true living being, with true intelligence and a true landscape of the heart! She was far, far stronger than the spirit of the natural order who had served as Di E’s Dao Protector. Rather, the two of them weren’t even remotely comparable!
Are the Laws of the Nine Luminaries perhaps considered a supreme power connected directly to Destiny because they contain the power of Rahu? After all, if the spirit of the Laws of Rahu is a true living being, she naturally has her own destiny!
Su Yi’s thoughts raced.
“Big Brother, are you willing to take me with you now?” the little girl asked suddenly.
Su Yi gazed intently at her. “This still isn’t enough.”
