Chapter 406: Bringing Back From Death
For a long moment after Razeal’s quiet words left his mouth, the room fell into a suffocating silence. The air itself seemed to grow heavy, pressing down on everything inside the shop as if the world had momentarily stopped moving. The only sound that remained was the slow, rhythmic dripping of blood from Maria’s neck wound onto the wooden floor beneath her. Each drop landed with a soft but distinct tap, spreading gradually across the grain of the wood like a dark stain that refused to be ignored. In the unnatural stillness of the room, even that faint sound seemed far louder than it should have been.
Sofia remained frozen where she knelt beside Maria’s body. Her hands were still hovering near the torn wound in Maria’s throat, suspended in the air as if her body had forgotten what it was supposed to do next. Her fingers trembled slightly, but they never moved forward or back. Her mind simply refused to accept what she had just heard.
Dead?
The word didn’t belong in this situation.
It didn’t fit.
It didn’t make sense.
“She’s… what?” Sofia said weakly after several seconds, her voice hollow and fragile as she slowly lifted her head to look back at Razeal. There was something desperate in her eyes now an almost childish hope that he would immediately correct himself. That he would say he had made a mistake. That he had sensed wrong.
That Maria was simply unconscious.
That this was shock.
Anything except what he had just said.
But Razeal didn’t say anything else.
He didn’t move or react.
He simply stood there, staring down at Maria’s body lying motionless on the floor.
And that silence alone told Sofia everything she needed to know.
“No… no, that’s not possible,” she whispered quickly, her voice tightening as if she was trying to reject the reality outright. Her hands suddenly moved again as if her body had finally regained control. She grabbed Maria’s shoulder and shook her gently, trying to wake her up.
But Maria didn’t respond.
Her body remained completely limp.
And what made it worse was that the change in her body had already begun.
Because Maria was now a vampire.
Without the circulation of life within her body, her skin began to turn pale.. unnaturally pale. The color drained from her flesh until it became an almost ghostly white. The beautiful glow that had filled her skin only minutes ago vanished completely, replaced by a lifeless stillness that made her appear eerily fragile. At the corners of her eyes, faint dark-red streaks of blood remained where tears had mixed with the wound inside her throat. Her body looked slightly sunken now, the stillness of death making every line of her form appear more hollow. Even her fingers, which lay loosely against the floor, had the stiff emptiness of a corpse.
“…No,” Sofia whispered again under her breath, though this time the word carried far less conviction.
The truth was already in front of her.
She simply couldn’t bring herself to accept it.
For several seconds she remained kneeling there in silence, staring at Maria’s pale face as if hoping that any second her chest would rise with breath again.
But nothing happened.
“What… the hell was that?” Sofia suddenly snapped.
Her voice cut through the silence sharply as frustration and disbelief finally forced their way out of her chest. She spun around toward Razeal with a shocked expression.
“Why would she do that?!” she demanded, her voice trembling slightly despite the confusion behind it. “She literally just evolved! She gained insane power! She was practically on the path to becoming a god!” Her hand pointed helplessly toward Maria’s body on the floor. “Who the hell kills themselves right after something like that?!”
Her words echoed through the quiet shop.
But Razeal didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, his gaze slowly drifted downward again toward Maria’s face.
For the first time since it happened, a faint crease formed between his brows.
Honestly… even he didn’t really know how he was supposed to feel right now.
The entire situation felt… strange.
Someone had just killed themselves in front of him.
And the reason for it..
From everything he had seen and heard, it seemed Maria had done it because she was overwhelmed by guilt.
Guilt for misunderstanding him.
Guilt for believing the lie.
Guilt for not helping him when he needed it.
From his perspective, it was simple.
She had killed herself because she felt guilty about what had happened to him.. Atleast if what he was thinking was right..?
And that was the exact part he couldn’t properly understand.
For a man who had spent most of his life believing that everyone was selfish.. that no one truly cared about him that people only acted when it benefited themselves… this situation was difficult to process.
Because Maria had done something that contradicted that belief entirely.
She had killed herself.
For him..?
That thought alone felt absurd in his mind.
Razeal quietly tried to imagine himself in someone else’s position.
If the roles were reversed.
If he had wronged someone.
If he discovered he had made a terrible mistake.
Would he kill himself over it?
The answer came to him immediately.
No.
Not even close.
There wasn’t a single person he could think of who would make him do something like that.
Not one.
No face appeared in his mind.
No name.
Nothing.
The idea itself felt ridiculous to him.
And yet..
Maria had just done exactly that.
Right in front of him.
After apologizing.
After saying sorry..?
She had taken her own life.
Because of him.
And Razeal honestly didn’t know what he was supposed to feel about that.
He didn’t feel anger.
He didn’t feel sadness.
If anything, he felt… rather confused.
Confused in a way that made him question things he had believed for a very long time.
Was something like this even possible?
Could someone actually care about another person enough to destroy themselves over guilt?
Or was Maria simply… Well? he didn’t even know the proper word to call it..
His gaze remained fixed on her face.
But another thought slowly began forming in his mind.
Maria had said something earlier.
Something important.
She had said that she owed her life to him.
That he had saved her.
And that was the part maybe which he doesn’t remember..
Must be because of that right?
If Maria had reacted this strongly because of something he did years ago… then it had to be connected to those missing pieces.
That realization made the crease between his brows deepen slightly.
Because now a new question had formed in his mind.
What exactly did I do back then?
Whatever it was…
It had left an impact strong enough to make Maria feel like she owed him her entire life.
Strong enough to make her feel unbearable guilt when she realized she had abandoned him.
Strong enough…
To make her kill herself.
And the more Razeal thought about that possibility, the more he realized just how little he actually knew about his own past.
Well… whatever the truth of the past was, whatever memory had been erased or forgotten, Razeal realized one thing with unusual clarity now. Maria had been genuine. At least when it came to him. She hadn’t been lying earlier when she said she cared about him. And when she said she loved him… that probably hadn’t been an exaggeration either. Because as far as Razeal could tell, there really wasn’t any bigger proof than what had just happened. A person didn’t throw their life away like that for someone they didn’t truly care about.
His gaze remained lowered as he looked at Maria’s lifeless body lying on the wooden floor. Her pale face had already taken on that eerie stillness of death, the blood slowly pooling beneath her neck and spreading outward along the floorboards. The sight made something inside him twist in a way he wasn’t familiar with. It wasn’t anger. It wasn’t grief either. It was something heavier… something that sat awkwardly inside his chest, like a weight he didn’t know how to move or remove. He stared at her for a long moment, silently studying the face that only minutes ago had been filled with emotion and life. Now it was quiet. Empty. And strangely peaceful. Razeal frowned slightly as that uncomfortable feeling pressed against him. He couldn’t quite understand it. It was the first time he had felt something like this this strange heaviness that refused to fit into any clear category of emotion.
Sofia had been watching him during that silence. At first she had been focused entirely on Maria’s body, still trying to process what had just happened. But eventually her attention drifted back to Razeal. He hadn’t moved since speaking those two quiet words earlier. He just stood there, staring down at the floor where Maria lay. From Sofia’s perspective the scene looked almost heartbreaking. Someone had just taken their own life right in front of him, after apologizing and crying and saying those final words.
Anyone in that situation would be shaken. Sofia’s brows knit slightly with concern as she studied his expression. He must be very sad, she thought quietly. Even though she hadn’t known Maria very long, it was obvious that the relationship between Maria and Razeal went back much further than her own connection with him. Their past seemed complicated.. full of misunderstandings, regrets, and things left unsaid. She knew Razeal hadn’t wanted to accept Maria back earlier, and she also understood there had been bitterness between them. But now that the truth had come out, and Maria had made such an extreme choice… Sofia could only imagine how confusing and painful that must be for him. Especially considering she already knew Razeal wasn’t exactly the most emotionally stable person when it came to certain things.
“Hey are you alright?……. Also.. it’s not your fault, okay?” Sofia finally said softly, breaking the silence as she turned fully toward him. Her voice carried genuine sympathy now. “What happened… I don’t even know what to say about it… but it’s not your fault.” She spoke carefully, trying to keep herself calm even though the entire situation still felt surreal. Maria was dead. That was the reality they were dealing with now, and death wasn’t something that could simply be undone. It meant the end of everything. Any chance of resolving the misunderstandings between Maria and Razeal… any chance for them to talk properly or fix what had happened… was gone forever. From Sofia’s point of view the situation felt deeply tragic. She gave him a small nod, trying to offer reassurance in the only way she could. “Really… you shouldn’t blame yourself for this.”
Razeal slowly lifted his gaze from the floor and looked directly at Sofia as she spoke. For several seconds he simply held her eyes in silence. Sofia attempted to soften her expression as much as possible, trying to show him understanding and support. She knew the moment was fragile. She knew the wrong words could make things worse. So she just stood there quietly, hoping her presence alone might help him stabilize his emotions.
Then Razeal frowned.
A deep sigh escaped him as he lifted his hand and pressed it against his face, rubbing his forehead slowly.
Sofia’s heart immediately tightened when she saw that reaction.
It was the first time she had seen such an obvious display of emotion from him.
He must really be taking this hard.
Without hesitation she stood up from where she had been kneeling and walked over to him quickly.
“Hey, hey… don’t stress like that,” she said gently as she approached, raising her hands slightly as if trying to calm someone on the verge of a breakdown. “I understand this is shocking, but you don’t need to blame yourself or do anything crazy, okay?” Her voice softened even more as she spoke. “No one could have expected this. Not you, not me, not anyone. You can’t carry this on your shoulders.” She was genuinely worried that Maria’s suicide might leave a permanent psychological scar on him. Situations like this could easily become traumatic memories that haunted people for years. Sofia had seen it happen before. And Razeal… well… she already knew he carried enough darkness inside his mind.
Razeal sighed again.
Then he shook his head slightly.
“She’s so dumb and stupid..I swear..” he suddenly said flatly.
The comment came out so casually that Sofia blinked in confusion.
“…Yes… yes, she is,” Sofia replied awkwardly after a second, unsure how else to respond to that tone. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder, thinking he was trying to mask his sadness with irritation. “I’m sad about it too.”
But Razeal simply exhaled again.
“Sigh… whatever,” he muttered.
Then he lowered his hand from his face and started walking toward Maria’s body.
“Let me just bring her back to life.”
The words came out so casually that for a moment Sofia didn’t even process what he had said.
Then her eyes widened in absolute shock.
For a split second she honestly thought the grief had completely broken his mind.
He snapped.
“Hey.. hey hey! Are you alright?” Sofia suddenly stepped in front of Razeal, blocking his path before he could take another step toward Maria’s body. Her hands came up instinctively as if she was physically trying to stop him from doing something reckless. Her expression had shifted from sadness to genuine alarm now. “What the hell are you doing?” she demanded, her voice rising with urgency. “She’s dead!” The word came out heavy and sharp. “I know it’s sad.. I know it’s horrible but it’s a fact! You have to accept that!” Her eyes searched his face anxiously, trying to see if he was still thinking clearly.
But Razeal looked completely calm.
“I’m all fine,” he replied slowly, almost casually. “Don’t worry about it.” His tone carried none of the instability Sofia had expected to hear. “Also… don’t stop me.” He lightly brushed his fingers against her shoulder as if trying to reassure her instead. “It’s fine. And I’m not sad.” He tilted his head slightly as he looked at her. “Do you see me looking sad anywhere?” His lips curved into a faint smile that seemed oddly relaxed given the situation. “I’m just a little surprised she would do that for me. That’s all.” He shrugged lightly. “Otherwise it’s fine. I know I can bring her back. So you should calm down too.” His hand remained resting gently on Sofia’s shoulder for a moment before he added, almost sincerely, “And I’m happy to see you’re concerned for me.. Thanks you for your concern..”
“What…?” Sofia blinked several times, completely thrown off by his response. She stared at him as if trying to determine whether he was joking or simply delusional. “You don’t seem… mentally stable right now,” she said slowly, narrowing her eyes. “You seriously need some rest.” Her tone shifted slightly, like someone trying to speak calmly to a person in shock. “And what was that about thanking someone for caring about you? You’re not supposed to thank people for basic concern. That’s just… normal.” She paused awkwardly, clearly unsure how to handle this conversation.
“No, no,” she said quickly after a second, placing her hands on his shoulders in return. “Forget that for now. Come sit down first. Calm down.” Her expression softened with visible pity. In her mind the explanation was obvious he had simply snapped under the emotional pressure of the moment. My husband is such a gentle person… she thought sadly. He must be hurting more than he’s showing. Her eyes became soft with sympathy as she looked at him.
Razeal stared back at her with a completely deadpan expression.
Then he slowly shook his head.
“Just give me two seconds, okay?” he said quietly, sounding serious now.
Before Sofia could protest again, he gently slid her aside with one hand and stepped past her.
That was the moment Sofia truly froze.
Because now it was clear he wasn’t joking.
He actually intended to do something.
And from the way he was walking toward Maria’s body… it almost looked like he genuinely believed what he had said earlier.
That he could bring her back.
Sofia’s confusion deepened rapidly.
Inside Razeal’s mind, however, another voice had already begun speaking.
[Host… I wouldn’t recommend it.]
Villey’s tone sounded unusually serious this time.
[I mean, it was her decision to kill herself. Reviving her would essentially disrespect that decision. At the very least you should honor her final choice. Not to mention, you don’t even have a practical reason to do this now. If you want a subordinate, there are countless individuals inside the system space who are far more useful. Just bring one of them out. Yes, it would require effort, but it’s possible. And with Maria… I’m genuinely concerned you might fall in love with her if you revive her. Considering your “Cursed Love” trait, I strongly oppose this decision. It’s basically like cutting off your own leg.]
But Razeal ignored every word.
Completely.
In his mind, the system’s argument sounded ridiculous.
Someone had just killed themselves for him.
And now he was supposed to debate whether reviving them was “profitable” enough?
That idea alone felt absurd and dumb.. Serious do he need reason to do something? And for something like this?
If bringing her back required sacrificing something meaningful, maybe the question would matter.
But it isn’t even that..
He could revive her without paying any real price.
So why wouldn’t he?
Even Razeal wasn’t heartless enough to simply stand there and let someone remain dead after witnessing something like that.
Especially when that person had died believing they had wronged him.
He had spent his entire life believing that people didn’t care about him.
That everyone acted only for themselves.
And yet..
Maria had proven the opposite.
She had cared so much that guilt alone drove her to end her life.
Even now the idea still felt strange to him.
But strange or not… he couldn’t just ignore it.
If he walked away from this when he had the power to fix it, then maybe he really would be the kind of person everyone had always accused him of being… And maybe he might lso regret this.. He hVe chance now.. Tomorrow wont..
So he didn’t even respond to Villey.
Instead, Razeal stepped closer to Maria’s body and looked down at her quietly.
He took a slow breath.
Then he extended one hand above her.
The knowledge he needed had already been etched into his mind long ago.. ever since he had upgraded his Killing Dao to S-Rank.
One of the abilities granted by that breakthrough was simple in concept, yet terrifying in implication.
He could return life to anyone who had died within the last twenty-four hours.
A faint crimson light began gathering at the tip of his index finger.
At first it looked like nothing more than a faint mist.
Then the energy condensed.
Deeper and extremely Darker.
Until it formed a small, liquid-like droplet hanging from the tip of his finger.
It wasn’t blood.
It was condensed literal killing intent.
The accumulated essence of countless deaths.
The crystallized manifestation of the lives he had taken.
From Sofia’s perspective the sight was both confusing and unsettling.
She watched silently from the side, unsure what she was even looking at.
But Razeal didn’t hesitated..
Anyways the droplet fell.
And the moment it touched Maria’s body..
Something impossible happened.
Time itself seemed to shudder.
The blood pooled beneath her neck suddenly began moving.
Not outward.
Backward.
Like a river reversing its current.
The crimson liquid lifted from the wooden floor and flowed back toward the wound in her throat.
At the same time, the torn flesh of her neck began stitching itself together.
Muscle reformed.
Skin sealed.
Bone reconnected.
The entire process unfolded as if time itself were rewinding.
Inside Razeal’s system interface, a small notification appeared silently.
[Killing Intent Points: –1]
Yeah Obiously resurrection required a price.
One soul for one life.
But for Razeal… that cost was meaningless.
He had accumulated billions of killing points from the countless lives he had taken.
Spending one was like dropping a grain of sand into an ocean.
Meanwhile Maria’s body continued changing.
The unnatural pale color of her skin faded slowly.
Rosy warmth returned.
The lifeless stiffness left her limbs.
The dark streaks at the corners of her eyes disappeared.
Even the hollow stillness of death vanished from her expression.
Slowly, almost imperceptibly at first, the process began to unfold.
The reversal that Razeal had triggered continued working through Maria’s body with quiet precision, like some invisible force carefully rewriting reality itself. The blood that had spilled across the wooden floor had already been pulled back into her body moments earlier, and now the final traces of death were steadily disappearing from her form… Visibly and literally..
Sofia stood only a few steps away, staring at the scene with eyes that were growing wider with every passing second. At first she thought she must be imagining things. But then she felt it. A faint but undeniable pulse of life energy began radiating from Maria’s body again.
Sofia’s senses were sharp enough to detect such things, especially after everything that had happened earlier. And what she felt now was unmistakable. Life. The signal of a living body. It was weak at first.. fragile and unstable but it was undeniably there and it was getting stronger by each fraction of moment. Maria’s presence in the world had returned exactly as it had been before her death. Sofia’s jaw slowly dropped open as her brain tried desperately to process the impossible reality unfolding in front of her. “Wh… what…?” she whispered under her breath, the words barely forming in her mouth. Just seconds ago she had been worried that Razeal had lost his mind from shock and grief. She had thought his talk of reviving Maria was nothing more than emotional denial. But now… now he was actually doing it. And Sofia simply couldn’t comprehend it.
Death? In every law or common sense she had ever been taught, was absolute. Once someone died, that was the end. The soul departed. The body became nothing more than a shell. Even gods, according to everything she had learned growing up, could not freely overturn that rule.
The only being said to possess authority over death itself was the God of Death.. the divine entity responsible for judging souls after life ended. And even that god did not wield such power freely. According to the ancient teachings Sofia had learned from her mother, reviving a dead soul required permission from at least two Supreme Gods and as also demanded a cost so immense that it was considered nearly impossible.
Resurrection was a myth even among divine beings. And yet now she was standing here watching her husband.. Who was a mortal .. do the impossible as if it were nothing more than a casual action. Maria had died. Sofia had seen it with her own eyes. She had felt the absence of life in Maria’s body. And now… she could sense life returning again. The entire situation felt so absurd that Sofia briefly wondered if she had somehow lost consciousness and was hallucinating.
“Urgh…~”
The soft sound of a weak groan snapped her out of that stunned state instantly.
Maria’s body shifted slightly where it lay on the floor.
Her eyelids trembled faintly before slowly fluttering open, her gaze unfocused and weak as she stared blankly at the ceiling above her. The return to consciousness was sluggish, like someone waking from a deep and disorienting dream.
And that single movement shattered the last bit of resistance in Sofia’s mind. The impossible had just happened right in front of her. Her legs suddenly lost their strength and she staggered backward before collapsing onto the floor in a sitting position, completely overwhelmed. Her mind was racing so fast she couldn’t even form coherent thoughts anymore. She stared at Maria with absolute disbelief written across her face. “Sh–she… shes shessssssss??… she’s alive??” Sofia shouted suddenly, her voice breaking with shock as the realization finally hit her fully.
Razeal turned his head slightly to look at her reaction.
To him the entire thing looked oddly amusing.
Her expression of total disbelief made the situation feel far less dramatic than it should have. In his mind, reviving Maria had never seemed like a particularly extraordinary action. It was simply a function of an ability he possessed. After all, he had the ability to do it, and the method was straightforward. Compared to whatver people think worth or seriously take death to, something like this didn’t feel world-shattering at all.. Literally he died more times then if whole small kingdom to be died.. His alone number Still be greater.. Still, watching Sofia completely lose her composure over it was… mildly entertaining.
Anyways he shook his head lightly and turned his attention back to Maria.
Then he crouched down beside her body and leaned closer so his face was visible within her slowly focusing vision.
“Good morning?” he said casually, the corner of his mouth lifting into a faint smile.
It was a strangely light tone considering the circumstances, but to Razeal the moment carried a strange sense of humor. Maria had literally experienced death seconds ago and was now waking up again like someone who had simply taken a short nap.
Maria blinked slowly.
Her mind was still clouded and disoriented. One moment she remembered pain, guilt, and the sensation of her own hand tearing through her throat. The next moment… there was light again. Her vision gradually cleared as she struggled to understand what was happening. And then she saw him.
Razeal’s face.
Right above her.
Smiling?? That foo weirdly? That too him?
The sight alone was enough to freeze her brain completely.
Because in Maria’s memory the last thing she had experienced was death. She had been absolutely certain her life had ended.
And now the first thing she saw upon “waking up” was Razeal leaning over her with his sharp vampire fangs slightly visible in a smile.
The scene felt horrifyingly surreal.
Her brain couldn’t process it.
She blinked again.
Still staring at him.
Then suddenly..
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~!” Maria screamed at the top of her lungs as if she had just seen the most terrifying ghost imaginable.
“MUMMYYYYYY SAVE MEEEEEEE~~~!!NOOOOOOOO~!”
She immediately threw her arms up in front of her face defensively and began scrambling backward on the floor in blind panic, her body trembling as she stared at Razeal like he was some supernatural nightmare that had come to drag her soul away.
Which… honestly made sense.
From her perspective she had died.
And the first thing she saw after that was Razeal smiling down at her.
Meanssss he’s ghost or maybe she is nowww.
Razeal paused for a second, completely caught off guard by that reaction.
This was… not the response he had expected.
But then he quickly understood the reason behind it.
And the absurdity of the situation hit him all at once.
“Pfftttt!”
He couldn’t stop the laughter that burst out of him.
The sound escaped before he could even try to hold it back.
“Mummy? Seriously?” he thought while looking at Maria’s terrified face. “So much for that arrogant tsundere noble lady image…”
The contrast between the proud, cold Maria he had known earlier and the panicked girl screaming for her mother in front of him right now was simply too ridiculous.
And the more he looked at her expression of pure terror…
the harder it became for him to stop laughing. So stupid..
