Chapter 176: Chapter 175: Li Zixuan: Senior Brother, I Never Thought You Were This Kind of Person
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Li Qinghe hadn’t come to work these past few days.
After she had offered up the *Innate Longevity* manual in an exchange, Qin Yang had reluctantly rewarded her with an Innate Elixir Pill.
’After all, I’d already seen it. I’m not the type to take things for free. She was due a breakthrough, so I had to give it to her!’
’That girl is probably off in some corner, desperately grinding away now.’
’Still, this is for the best. It saves her the trouble of looking for me, and I get some peace and quiet.’
As dusk fell that day, the last rays of sunlight slanted into the library.
With an hour left until closing time, Qin Yang yawned, put away his small slacking stool, and went to the Steward’s office door.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
“Come in!”
The Steward’s voice came from within. Qin Yang pushed the door open and entered.
“Qin Yang? What are you doing here?”
At his desk, the Steward put down his newspaper, took off his reading glasses, pulled out his phone to check the time, and said, “It’s not closing time yet, is it?”
“Not yet, Steward. I’m here to ask for leave. Something’s come up at home.”
Qin Yang took out a leave request form, placed it on the desk, and said slowly, “It’s rather urgent. Could you please approve it? I’m worried you’ll mark me as absent without leave and I’ll lose my perfect attendance bonus…”
“Asking for leave?”
The Steward was a little stunned to hear this. He picked up the leave request form from the desk, glanced at it, and felt quite surprised.
’Well, I’ll be!’
’It’s been almost a year since this kid became a permanent employee… and this is the first time he’s ever asked me for leave!’
At this thought, the Steward pursed his lips, raised an eyebrow, and tried to gently persuade him to stay. “Why don’t you stick around? It’s almost closing time anyway. What’s a little more time…?”
“Your performance has been good recently. I was even planning to put you in for an ’Outstanding Employee’ award…”
“…”
Qin Yang was speechless at this and silently rolled his eyes.
’Is he seriously stringing me along with empty promises!? I’ve been consistently slacking off for a whole year. Can’t I even take a single day off?!’
Today was the day Li Zixuan was coming over, so he had to go back early and prepare to host her.
After some back-and-forth, the Steward grudgingly signed the leave form, and only then did Qin Yang leisurely head home.
He bought some vegetables on the way, hailed a taxi, and returned to the main entrance of Fuhai District. However, the moment he stepped out of the car, he saw Li Zixuan standing in front of the gate.
She was dressed in a tasteful, understatedly luxurious outfit and was wearing light makeup. She had let her long hair down, a waterfall of black that made her look incredibly youthful and vibrant.
“Senior Brother?! You’re back so early today?”
Li Zixuan was surprised to see Qin Yang getting out of the car. She quickly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, stepped forward to take the grocery bag, and asked, “Isn’t the library still open?”
“I took some time off. I was planning to prepare some dishes to welcome you…”
Qin Yang glanced at her and asked, “And what about you, Junior Sister? Why are you so early? You must have been here for a while, right?”
“No… Senior Brother, I… I just got here. I haven’t been waiting long.”
Li Zixuan’s earlobes turned slightly red as she stammered, “I really just arrived… and just happened to run into you.”
“…”
Hearing this, Qin Yang chuckled to himself, not planning to expose the silly girl’s fib.
’Judging by her personality—cold on the outside, but a bit of a dork on the inside—a conservative estimate would be that she got here around two in the afternoon…’
’Fine. If she says it was a coincidence, it was a coincidence. I won’t call her out on it. We’re all civilized people here.’
Hiding her embarrassment, Li Zixuan tucked her hair behind her ear again, forced herself to look calm, and continued, “Senior Brother, I haven’t been to see Teacher in so long. Do you think he’ll be angry with me?”
“No, he won’t be.”
Qin Yang shook his head, took out the key to the villa, and led the way, explaining casually.
“The old man is busy with his Cultivation. Now that he’s broken through to the Venerable Realm, his perspective is much broader. He stopped caring about all that ceremony and etiquette long ago…”
“Is that so? That’s good…”
Li Zixuan breathed a sigh of relief inwardly, following quietly behind Qin Yang, her eyes darting about.
The two walked along a small path through the cluster of villas.
The gentle light of the setting sun washed over them. A few residents walking their dogs occasionally passed by, staring at Qin Yang and Li Zixuan for a moment with envious eyes, assuming they were another handsome couple from one of the villas.
Just then, after a moment of silence, Li Zixuan bit her lip and spoke softly:
“Senior Brother, are we almost there?”
“Almost. That one up ahead is my place.”
Qin Yang pointed to a three-story villa not far away. “Master is waiting for you there. You should stay for dinner later.”
As he finished speaking, Li Zixuan felt a surge of excitement as she watched the villa get closer and closer.
She glanced down at the gift box in her hand. It was filled with presents she’d brought from home, gifts she had specially commissioned over the past few days.
’I wonder if Teacher will accept them…’
“Senior Brother, by coming here this time, will I be disturbing his peace?”
Li Zixuan asked softly, feeling apprehensive at the thought of seeing her Teacher so soon.
’My Cultivation progress is so slow… I’m only at the Early Stage of the Innate Realm. If he finds out… will he be very disappointed?’
Li Zixuan fidgeted with the hem of her clothes.
“…No, he won’t be. Teacher has wanted to see you for a while now.”
Qin Yang looked at Li Zixuan’s awkward demeanor and comforted her softly, sighing at the same time.
’Seriously… this silly girl. I’m just asking you to meet our Teacher. It’s not like you’re going to face an Emperor Level Star Beast… Is there really a need to be so flustered?’
“If you’re this scared, maybe you shouldn’t go in after all,” Qin Yang said casually, sighing and touching his forehead.
The moment he spoke, Li Zixuan was startled and quickly shook her head. She grabbed the corner of Qin Yang’s shirt and said in a low voice, “No, don’t say that, Senior Brother! Even if Teacher gets angry with me, I have to see him.”
’It wasn’t easy for me to get this chance to see him. I can’t just turn back now.’
“Alright then.”
At her words, Qin Yang took out the key and inserted it into the lock on the door.
CREAK—
A sharp, metallic scraping sound rang out. Li Zixuan’s heart leaped into her throat as she stared intently at the space behind the door.
The crack in the door slowly widened.
A few strands of snow-white hair came into view.
’Is that Teacher’s hair?’
Li Zixuan’s eyes widened. She stared excitedly at the floating white strands, clenching her fists as she waited for the moment the door would open.
The next moment.
CLANG!
The main door swung open!
“Welcome home, Master!”
A little loli with white hair leaped out to greet them. She wore a baggy men’s T-shirt, and her two pale, slender calves dangled as she spread her arms to block the doorway.
Three pairs of eyes met.
“???”
Li Zixuan froze for a moment, staring at Xiaobai, the girl who had jumped out. Her mind went blank.
’What an adorable little loli!’
But a moment later…
’Wait a minute…’
’Something’s not right!’
Li Zixuan frowned, suddenly remembering what Xiaobai had just called him!
’What did she call Senior Brother?’
’Master?!’
’She and Senior Brother have that kind of relationship?!’
At this thought, Li Zixuan turned to Qin Yang, looking at him with a strange expression.
’I never knew you were that kind of person, Senior Brother!’
