Chapter 245: A Giant Bat Beast!
The mist inside the canyon was denser than anywhere else they had passed.
It was so thick that one could not even see a hand held before the face.
Even with the sharp sensory perception of everyone present, they could only detect their surroundings within a range of a few dozen meters. Beyond that narrow radius, everything vanished into a blank and impenetrable void.
The group continued forward along the canyon path in silence.
As time passed, the sky gradually darkened.
When night fell, the darkness merged with the heavy mist, making visibility even worse and reducing everyone’s senses to an even narrower range.
They pressed onward through the entire night like that, advancing step by step through the endless white darkness.
By the next morning, the sunlight still could not pierce the thick mist, yet its presence faintly colored the fog in a pale milky white glow.
After traveling for a long time, they finally arrived at what seemed to be the end of the canyon.
Though they called it the end, no one could say with certainty whether it truly was.
Before them stood a vast swirling mass of mist.
The rotating cloud was enormous, stretching across their entire field of view and completely blocking the path ahead, making passage impossible by ordinary means.
“Could this be the true source of all the mist in the Misty Land?”
Li Yun asked, his eyes narrowing as he studied it.
Han Li shook his head.
“The Misty Land is far stranger than you imagine. Swirling mist like this exists in many places throughout the region. The largest one is said to resemble a giant white sun suspended high in the sky.”
No one knew how the mist had first appeared, just as no one knew what terrible events had taken place here hundreds of years ago.
After only a brief pause, the group stepped into the swirling mist.
There was no dizziness, no strange distortion, and no sense of danger.
They simply passed through it as though crossing an invisible curtain and emerged into a world entirely free of mist.
When they turned back, they saw only an endless wall of thick fog behind them.
The swirling mist itself had vanished as though it had never existed.
“What a miraculous place.”
A look of astonishment and confusion appeared in Li Yun’s eyes.
Before anyone could say more, a sharp piercing screech suddenly tore through the air.
The sound was so shrill that it made their ears bleed and their minds spin violently.
Everyone reacted at once, rapidly circulating their qi to protect themselves.
When they looked upward, they saw a huge demonic beast soaring in the sky.
It resembled an enormous bat, its wings blotting out much of the light above.
Tier 4 High-Grade Demonic Beast.
Giant Bat Beast.
Among Tier 4 demonic beasts, strength varied as greatly as it did among martial artists in the Qi Sea Realm. Some were ordinary, while others were monstrous predators beyond common comparison.
A high-grade beast of this rank was equivalent to an expert above the sixth level of the Qi Sea Realm.
The Giant Bat Beast was among the strongest of them all, a terrifying apex existence within its class.
To kill one was as difficult as clearing the third floor of the True Inheritance Pagoda.
In a one-on-one fight, none of them present could defeat it.
Only a truly supreme genius would have any hope of slaying such a beast alone.
“It is a Giant Bat Beast. Kill it quickly!”
The moment Wu Lin recognized the creature, his expression changed sharply. Knowing full well how terrifying such a beast was, he did not hesitate and immediately unleashed a powerful attack toward it.
The others reacted just as quickly.
The Giant Bat Beast was far too dangerous to leave alive. Its speed was overwhelming, and if they allowed it to keep circling above them, they would never be able to concentrate on searching for the tomb.
In an instant, eleven streams of energy shot into the air, streaking toward the beast like meteors.
Yet the Giant Bat Beast was astonishingly agile.
Its enormous body twisted through the sky in elegant arcs, weaving between the incoming attacks with effortless precision and avoiding every single strike.
Screech!
A piercing cry erupted from its mouth.
The sound condensed into a visible wave that crashed toward the group like an invisible storm.
The force of it struck their minds directly, making everyone feel as though their skulls were splitting apart.
The sound wave spread too fast and over too wide an area. Even Mu Lan, despite her strength, could not evade it in time.
“Spread out!”
Mu Lan instantly activated her movement technique and was the first to retreat, floating dozens of meters away in a flash, with Wu Lin close behind her.
In the blink of an eye, the entire group split into four separate formations, attacking from different directions in an attempt to surround the beast.
The Giant Bat Beast, however, was highly intelligent.
It understood clearly that the best way to deal with them was to break them apart and eliminate them one by one.
Its crimson eyes locked onto Li Yun’s group first.
With a sharp screech, it folded its wings and dove straight down toward them.
Its intent was obvious.
In close combat, demonic beasts held the natural advantage.
“Get back!”
Han Li roared and swung his sword upward.
A dense rain of sword strikes rose into the sky, covering the descending Giant Bat Beast in a storm of flashing steel.
Crack. Pop. Crack.
The sound of the blows striking its body rang out like heavy rain against a pipa.
The Giant Bat Beast did not even attempt to dodge.
It endured the entire barrage head-on, and though several shallow scratches appeared across its hide, they were no more than superficial wounds.
Its claws then slashed downward toward Han Li with terrifying force.
If those claws connected, Han Li would be torn apart instantly.
“Brother!”
Han Xue cried out and spun her twin crescent moon blades.
Countless blade arcs burst forth, slicing wildly toward the descending beast in chaotic waves.
