Lord of Prayer - Chapter 205 157: Time Axis

Zhou Chen struggled to open his heavy eyelids. He was hit by a wave of dizziness, and a sharp ringing buzzed in his ears. It felt like he’d been thrown into a washing machine on a manic spin cycle, then dropped from the sky. His brain had been shaken into mush, his thoughts too scrambled to form a single complete idea.
The intense vertigo made his stomach churn, and he threw up with a retch.
It took a while for his vision to gradually return and for him to make out his surroundings. The night was deep. A gentle breeze pushed the clouds aside, slowly revealing a magnificent starry sky. A bright moon hung high overhead, its cold light illuminating a silent, Desolate Forest. He was lying on a patch of grass.
Zhou Chen sat up and looked around, his face blank with confusion.
‘How… is it nighttime?’
The air was a bit muggy, and the intermittent chirping of cicadas filled the air. A cool night breeze blew across his face, clearing his head slightly.
‘Something’s not right…’
While Hong City in December wasn’t exactly freezing, it was never this hot. And the cicadas… This was clearly summer!
A star-like light flashed within the Wish Bottle. Zhou Chen shuddered as his consciousness rapidly cleared. Using a wish, he shook off his daze and returned to peak condition.
The first thing he did was check himself for injuries, confirming he wasn’t hurt. Next, he scanned his surroundings. It seemed to be a desolate, wild area. Judging by the moon’s position, the time was around two in the morning.
Old Yang was gone. His backpack and the phone he’d been holding had also vanished.p>Unbelievable.
Totally unbelievable.
Zhou Chen stood there in a daze, wondering if he’d been roped into some prank reality show. Why had he inexplicably appeared in this place?
Before he could figure anything out, he suddenly heard the sound of hurried running in the distance. Through the dense woods, he could vaguely make out a figure enveloped in golden light, fleeing. The brilliant glow was exceptionally conspicuous in the dark of night.
—The mark from the Wish Bottle!
Zhou Chen looked into his Spiritual World and discovered that the marker on his navigation map had changed. It was no longer on the mountain peak next to the Tulip Garden, but nearby and on the move!

In the laboratory, various cutting-edge instruments flashed and sparked.
Thirteen tuning forks resonated, emitting a piercing sound wave that shattered the specially-made protective glass. An invisible, colorless wave of Energy burst forth, sweeping through the entire lab like a tide. In an instant, it expanded and spread, engulfing all of Hong City.
The equipment roared from the overload. All the readings on the screens fell into chaos, soaring one moment and plummeting the next. Sharp alarms blared incessantly as cables snapped one by one, spewing sparks.
BANG!
With a loud explosion, one of the instruments blew apart from the overload. It set off a domino-like chain reaction, and the remaining instruments exploded one after another. Then, the lights went out, and black smoke began to rise.
The thirteen metal tuning forks stopped resonating. A few seconds later, everything fell silent, leaving a scene of total destruction.
“What’s the status?!” A deep gash had been cut across Steve’s face by the shattered glass, but he paid it no mind, staring instead at the group of frantic researchers.
“Runtime: 7.49 seconds. The Energy fluctuation from the experiment was extremely powerful, affecting the magnetic field of the entire Hong City. Scans have confirmed that the test subjects’ bodies have been effectively enhanced. A mutation has occurred on the genetic level, pushing them beyond the scope of a normal Blood Race. Shall we proceed with the direct sunlight exposure test?” a researcher asked.
“Proceed!” Steve ordered.
The group moved to another isolation chamber. Soon, a line of pale-faced men and women in hospital gowns walked into the lab. They were all low-level Blood Race who had just been lying in special experimental pods, undergoing modification by the “Eternal Energy” produced by the experiment.
One of the laboratory walls slowly opened, and bright rays of sunlight streamed in, shining down on the Blood Race members.
They instinctively tried to hide, but it was too late. A flood of sunlight poured in, filling the room with brilliance.
The Blood Race screamed in fear, but the stinging pain of being burned by the Sun never came. They stood there, completely unharmed, exposed to the sunlight. Even they themselves could hardly believe it, cautiously feeling the warm rays.
“It’s a success!”
BANG! Steve slammed a fist on the special isolation glass, his expression ecstatic. The other High Level Blood Race members beside him were equally euphoric.
This would be the most important turning point in the history of the Blood Race—they would no longer fear the light!
Miss A narrowed her eyes. The scene before her was astounding, even for someone as worldly and experienced as she was. It was common knowledge that the Blood Race was naturally weak to light; their skin would fester upon contact with sunlight, and prolonged exposure would reduce them to dust. Yet, these Blood Race members were standing directly in the sun, completely unscathed…
The shock was like watching a universally known truth be overturned.
‘Could they have really managed to build the Eternal Life Machine?’
‘No. Whether they’ve built it or not, I have to report this to the Legion Commander… The Blood Race being able to walk in the sunlight… this is a terrifying prospect!’
“Proceed to the next phase of testing!” Steve practically roared. In the face of what was a miracle for the Blood Race, it was impossible to maintain any semblance of composure.
Before long, after a series of detailed and meticulous tests, all seven members of the Blood Race who participated in the Eternal Life Project experiment had been freed from the “Curse” of fearing the light. The Sun was no longer a deadly poison to them; they could now walk safely in its rays.
