Chapter 195: Chapter 130: The Trial of Teng Liang, Strange Through and Through
As the Chief Judge, he had to consider the well-being of the entire Judicial Court, and at this point, any outcome was the worst-case scenario for him.
’If Teng Liang is innocent, then Meng Qi is guilty. Someone who just became a Core Seed is actually a member of the Deceitful God Sect? Isn’t that a slap in my face?’
’If Meng Qi is innocent, then Teng Liang is guilty. For an honorary director, a Tier Five Professional, and the student of a Chief Judge to be manipulated by the Deceitful God Sect into killing one of our own Core Seeds… that would be an even greater disgrace!’
Just as silence fell over the hall, a figure entered from outside, drawing everyone’s gaze.
It was Su Chen…
’Why is he only here now?’ Ming Lin sighed. In this situation, even if Xia Hanshi returned, it would be impossible to save Teng Liang without hard evidence, unless they were prepared for a complete falling out with the Judicial Court.
“Su Chen…” Chong Jingtian frowned. He didn’t need to guess why Su Chen was here.
“Chief Judge, I have something to report.” Su Chen walked straight past Teng Liang.
“I already know about the Priest Black Tuo. Stand aside,” Chong Jingtian interrupted coolly.
Priest Black Tuo? What about Priest Black Tuo? The crowd was stunned, as they were unaware of this matter.
“It’s not about that…” Su Chen shook his head and pulled the Curse Scroll from his coat. “Please, take a look at this.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Chong Jingtian’s eyes. He reached out, and the Curse Scroll floated from Su Chen’s hand into his.
As he took it and unrolled it, You Shan and Jiang Shu Mo, who were beside him, leaned in to look. The moment they scanned the translated text, the faces of all three changed dramatically.
Chong Jingtian demanded, “Where did you find this? And did you find the item it mentions!?”
The crowd below looked on in bewildered shock, wondering what could possibly make the three Chief Judges lose their composure so completely.
“It was in Priest Black Tuo’s lair,” Su Chen said, shaking his head. “We searched the place top to bottom several times, but we couldn’t find it.”
“Troubled times indeed…” Chong Jingtian suppressed the storm of emotions within him, his gaze on Su Chen growing complex. “If you hadn’t discovered Priest Black Tuo’s lair, we would likely still be completely in the dark. You have performed a great service.”
’Su Chen discovered Priest Black Tuo’s lair?’
Ming Lin was stunned. ’What kind of devil’s luck is that?’
Wei Yufan’s expression flickered, and he let out a low, cold snort.
Everyone fell silent. Su Chen had actually managed to reel in a big one.
“I was only doing my duty,” Su Chen said solemnly. “Senior Brother Teng Liang often reminds me to always put the Judicial Court first.”
Chong Jingtian sighed. He knew this was coming.
“Merit cannot cancel out fault,” Jiang Shu Mo said. “Su Chen, I know what you are trying to do, but there is only one problem. If you can solve it, Teng Liang will be unharmed.”
“That is, evidence connecting Meng Qi to the Deceitful God.”
“I will stake my life on it,” Su Chen declared, raising his head.
Some in the hall sneered silently, while others were moved. Teng Liang stared at Su Chen’s back, his thoughts unreadable.
Zhong Ming, having arrived even later than Su Chen, had only just made it. He stood to one side, still unaware of what was going on.
“Pure emotionalism,” Jiang Shu Mo said, shaking his head. “Step aside.”
With a wave of his hand, Su Chen was pushed aside by an Invisible Power. Ming Lin pulled at his sleeve, motioning for him to stay quiet.
Lei Tieyan’s voice was cold and hard. “This matter involves a Core Seed and an honorary director. Every single Judge is watching.”
“Teng Liang, I ask you only this: if your conscience is clear, do you dare to undergo a memory examination?”
Su Chen’s brow furrowed. ’Teng Liang is a Tier Five Professional. How can he be subjected to a memory examination?’
“I…” Just as Teng Liang began to speak, a Judge hurried in from outside the hall with a peculiar expression and reported:
“Chief Judge, a Black Tuo Follower has come. He says he wants to report a Faceless Ghost mole within the Judicial Court.”
The moment he finished speaking, the entire hall fell silent. Even Teng Liang couldn’t help but turn his head.
“What?” Chong Jingtian wondered if he had heard correctly. Perhaps the relentless series of events had stunned him into hearing something so utterly preposterous.
“Bring him in!” A sharp glint flashed in Jiang Shu Mo’s eyes. “Bring him directly here.”
“Take the body away. Teng Liang, step to the side.”
No one understood why.
Before long, a man who was tightly bound by restraints was brought forward. A black, vertical pupil was tattooed on his bald head.
“Lost little lambs, the Priest sends his regards.” The Black Tuo Follower scanned the room with an air of arrogance.
’The Priest… The Priest was captured ages ago,’ everyone grumbled to themselves, but no one said it out loud.
Chong Jingtian said coolly, “You claim you want to report a mole in the Judicial Court. Are you trying to sow discord?”
“Hah…” the Black Tuo Follower sneered. “You are all merely lambs destined for the slaughter. Why would I need to sow discord? It is simply that my Lord has taken pity and cannot bear to watch you be played for fools by the Faceless Ghost any longer.”
’Was he this infuriatingly punchable when I gave him his instructions?’ Su Chen wondered, watching the many Judges who were now silently clenching their fists.
Chong Jingtian couldn’t be bothered to argue with the madman and asked directly, “Who are you going to identify?”
“I don’t know,” the Black Tuo Follower replied, shaking his head with righteous conviction.
“Definitely a lunatic.” Jiang Shu Mo was so exasperated he laughed.
“The one in disguise carries the will of the Faceless Ghost,” the Black Tuo Follower said. “Their methods are exceptionally strange; you cannot detect them, and neither can I.”
’Carries the will of the Faceless Ghost?’ Everyone exchanged shocked and suspicious glances. ’What does that mean? A vessel for a Deceitful God?’
Su Chen mirrored their shocked and uncertain expressions. Of course, he had no idea whether Meng Qi truly carried the will of the Faceless Ghost, but ’in a situation like this, the wilder the accusation, the better.’
“Then what, exactly, are you here for?” Chong Jingtian pressed.
“Your leadership should all be present,” the Black Tuo Follower said, looking around. “I have a way to prove it, but you must not interrupt me.”
“His true intentions are showing! This fiend is just here to cause chaos! Kill him!” someone yelled.
But others shook their heads. “He’s just an ordinary believer, not even a zealot. He’s been searched from top to bottom. What could he possibly do?”
“I was prepared to return to my Lord’s embrace before I even came here,” the Black Tuo Follower stated plainly.
“Then let’s see what you’ve got,” Jiang Shu Mo decided.
The Black Tuo Follower immediately began chanting in a low voice, “…O Faceless God, mask of all living beings…”
“That’s not a chant to Black Tuo! That’s a chant for the Faceless Ghost…” one of the High-tier Judges realized.
“Wh-what in the world? Is the corpse… moving?” a shocked and uncertain shout came from the rear of the hall.
Everyone followed the voice and saw that on the surface of Meng Qi’s corpse, which lay in the corner, broken, grayish-white chains were materializing. They floated silently, like tentacles.
“How is it a corpse?” The Black Tuo Follower stopped his chant, looking genuinely surprised. “You already discovered it?”
’So Meng Qi was really involved with the Deceitful God Sect?’
The crowd was reeling from the turn of events. They never would have expected a Black Tuo Follower to be the one to provide the evidence.
Chong Jingtian and the three other high-ranking judges watched with solemn expressions as the grayish-white chains slowly faded. They hadn’t detected the chains’ appearance at all. It seemed Meng Qi truly was compromised.
’But this Black Tuo Follower who suddenly popped up is also strange. Isn’t this too much of a coincidence? His arrival comes just after Meng Qi’s death.’
“Is that all there is?” Lei Tieyan’s tone was frigid.
“Your Judicial Court lost a Core Seed recently, correct?” the Black Tuo Follower added. “Check his Talent. See if it’s changed.”
Jiang Shu Mo waved his hand, and someone quickly brought over a Talent Detection Device.
Meng Qi’s body was intact, so while his Spirit Talent could no longer be measured, his physical Talent could still be tested.
The moment the device was placed on the body, it projected a pillar of inky black light that drew every eye in the room.
“Mo Cui… When did he…” Ming Lin stammered, stunned. The others were equally shocked.
“Chant my Lord’s sacred name in gratitude.” With those final words, the Black Tuo Follower cleanly and decisively took his own life.
THUD!
The corpse crashed heavily onto the floor, the sound echoing in the minds of everyone present.
The conclusion seemed obvious. In all likelihood, something was very wrong with Meng Qi.
Furthermore, by the Black Tuo Follower’s implication, Zhu Xuan had been killed by Meng Qi.
’Still, why does this whole affair feel so strange?’
