Chapter 210: Chapter 138: Targeted, Acquired [Gourmet]
“The next item is a fragment of the Star of Void…”
Gu Bing sat up straight. ’Finally, the main event.’ On the screen was a diamond-shaped crystal of deep purple. Its surface was covered in fine cracks, and from each fissure, a starlike brilliance faintly shone through.
Within it, a rotating, nebula-like substance seemed to be sealed, emitting specks of starlight as the light shifted.
“Starting bid, eighty million!”
As the announcer’s voice fell, Gu Bing didn’t speak immediately. Instead, someone from the Craftsmanship Department behind her called out, “Ninety million.”
“One hundred million,” Gu Bing called out in a clear voice after waiting a moment.
Her voice was unfamiliar. It hadn’t been heard throughout the entire auction, clearly indicating she was here just for this item.
The seasoned buyers in attendance realized this at once, and their gazes shifted toward her.
Gu Bing held her head high, allowing everyone to see her face.
Soon, someone recognized her, quite surprised. “That’s the young lady from the Gu Family. She seems to be with Su Chen, that Core Seed from the Judicial Court.”
“The Gu Family is in the meat business. Su Chen must be the one who wants this thing.”
“I hear this Su Chen is very formidable?”
“You don’t know? He just dealt with Ying Feng. He’s more than just formidable…”
The discussions continued, and just as expected, the bidding stopped. No one minded giving him face, though it was also because no one else had an urgent need for the fragment.
Gu Bing kept a straight face, but inwardly she sighed in relief. Just then, however, another voice rang out.
“One hundred and ten million!”
From a corner, Xiao Ying called out the bid. He Kang’s expression immediately darkened. “What are you doing?”
“I suddenly want it. Is that a problem?” Xiao Ying put on a troubled expression.
He Kang said angrily, “If you drive up the price of this fragment now, what happens if they retaliate and drive up the price of the Potion later?”
Xiao Ying scoffed, “Let them. How high do you think they can go?”
Beside them, Zhou Honglang looked over in surprise.
The surrounding chatter grew louder as some people recognized Xiao Ying and He Kang. Understanding dawned on them. ’Ah, infighting between the Core Seeds.’
’They’re Wei Yufan’s people. I can’t believe they’re here too.’ Gu Bing averted her gaze, her expression turning ugly.
Wei Yufan’s accumulated resources were clearly on a level they couldn’t hope to challenge.
If those two were determined to compete, there was no way they could win.
“Contact Su Chen…” Gu Bing said in a low voice. Tie Feng hurriedly activated his Wristband and sent a message.
At the same time, Gu Bing called out a new price: “One hundred and thirty million.”
“One hundred and forty million,” Xiao Ying’s lazy voice followed.
Everyone else was just watching the show. While competitive bidding for resources like this happened often, the major players usually avoided deliberately driving up prices against each other to prevent a vicious cycle.
A scene like this was a rare sight.
“What should we do? This price is already far beyond our estimate, and they’ll probably keep raising it,” Tie Feng whispered.
“What did Su Chen say?” Gu Bing asked, gritting her teeth.
“No response yet,” Tie Feng replied with a helpless shake of his head.
With a grim look, Gu Bing bid one hundred and fifty million. Although she hadn’t prepared that much money, it wasn’t impossible to pull it together.
But Xiao Ying’s bid of one hundred and sixty million came immediately after, clearly intended to crush them.
“Are there no higher bids?”
Since a Core Seed from the Judicial Court was involved, the announcer on stage didn’t dare try to hype up the atmosphere. He simply waited for time to pass before finally asking.
A bitter expression appeared on Gu Bing’s face. Even with the combined resources of their three families, this was their limit.
“One hundred and seventy million.”
Another voice suddenly cut in. Everyone was stunned to see it was the person sitting right next to Xiao Ying.
“Uncle Zhou, you want it too?” Xiao Ying looked over in surprise.
Zhou Honglang turned off his virtual screen and said with a chuckle, “Yes. The Inspectorate has a need for it.”
“You should have said so earlier. I wouldn’t have driven the price so high,” Xiao Ying said, completely unconcerned.
The result was no surprise. The item was sold to the Inspectorate.
Soon, it was time to bid on the Jade Concealment that Xiao Ying’s group needed. Gu Bing, gritting her teeth, drove the price up by fifty million, but Xiao Ying remained unfazed.
This bidding war ended quickly. The friction between Su Chen and Wei Yufan was just a minor interlude that most people didn’t pay much mind to.
In the back room of the Resource Library, people were lining up to collect the items they had won.
“You shouldn’t have forced the price up. The Inspectorate wanted it anyway, so it wasn’t going to end up in Su Chen’s hands either way,” He Kang said, shaking his head incessantly at his side.
“Are you always such a scaredy-cat, Mr. Nice Guy?” Xiao Ying took the silver metal box from a staff member, unfastened the iron clasp, and opened it. Inside lay a bottle of Potion that shimmered like flowing light.
The liquid had a strange, multi-layered texture. When gently shaken, golden threads like quicksand would swirl within. These filaments of light moved and intertwined like living things against a turquoise base.
After confirming there were no issues, Xiao Ying closed the box.
“It’s not about being scared, it’s about it being unnecessary,” He Kang sighed, shaking his head. “Old Wei and Su Chen don’t have any direct conflicts. Aren’t we just escalating tensions by doing this?”
“No direct conflicts?” Hearing this, Xiao Ying actually laughed. “Do you really think there’s any room for reconciliation between those two?”
“Sigh…” He Kang sighed. “But there’s no need to cause trouble over something like this.”
“You’ve played the nice guy for so long you’ve started to believe your own lies.” Xiao Ying turned and started walking out. “A small thing… heh. Do you really think someone would just ’inexplicably’ need this fragment?”
He Kang shook his head helplessly and followed Xiao Ying out of the Resource Library and into the parking lot. In the distance, he saw Zhou Honglang’s back as he met a figure waiting by a Hovercar.
Instantly, Xiao Ying’s expression turned grim. Zhou Honglang was cheerfully taking a black metal box from his subordinate and handing it to Gu Bing, saying something to her.
“That couldn’t be the fragment of the Star of Void, could it?” He Kang, who had followed him, also saw the scene and asked hesitantly.
Xiao Ying schooled his features into a neutral mask. “If it’s not the fragment, what else could it be? Gu Bing came here specifically for it. Do you think Zhou Honglang would give her something irrelevant?”
