Chapter 224: Chapter 145: Listening to the Sound of Shattering Belief (Part 2)
’So he really is hiding in Wei Yinsuo’s body. Judging by his tone, he’s at least a Priest, possibly even a High Priest.’
’He didn’t see through my mask, either. Is it because he’s unable to use his other abilities?’
Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief. This would give him more room to maneuver. His voice was hoarse as he said, “The Divine Blood is missing. I came with utmost urgency.”
The words were simple, but Su Chen knew that even among Believers who served the same Deceitful God, complete trust and cooperation were impossible.
“Are you one of Yuan Peng’s men?” The voice mentioned a name Su Chen had never heard, so he simply remained silent.
The voice was reproachful. “I told you your plan wouldn’t work. Trying to steal the Stone Slab with an inside man was nearly impossible, and you wasted a dose of Divine Blood in the process.”
’Steal the Stone Slab?’
’The same Stone Slab Old Sang mentioned? The one suspected of holding the information on the Great Venerable’s Profession?’
’It’s that thing again. The Faceless Ghost wants it, and so does Black Tuo.’
’What would a Deceitful God want with it? Don’t tell me it has other uses besides recording the Profession information?’
A lot crossed Su Chen’s mind in that instant. The voice, however, had turned its attention to Wei Yinsuo. “Actually, that Divine Blood was prepared for you. It’s a shame it never made it into your hands.”
“Divine Blood?” Wei Yinsuo froze for a moment before it dawned on him. “Is that the precious material Pang Hui mentioned? The one that can extend one’s lifespan?”
He never imagined the Black Tuo Followers had set their sights on him so long ago.
“You’re hiding in his body to steal the Stone Slab, too. How is that any different from our plan?” Su Chen played along, trying to fish for more information.
“I am here on a divine decree with a special mission.” The voice was evasive, adding, “The Divine Blood didn’t fall into the hands of the Judicial Court. They’re still searching for it, too.”
“I suggest you focus your attention on the other factions of Divine Spirit Believers in Ying Feng.”
’He’s helping me?’
Su Chen was puzzled, but then he understood. ’I’m being too cautious. In his eyes, I’m a Priest Black Tuo—one of his own.’
Su Chen said, “Understood. What is the divine decree? I can set aside my search for the Divine Blood for now to help you fulfill it.”
“Hmm…” The voice deliberated for a moment. “You managed to infiltrate the Judicial Court, so you’re quite resourceful. The divine decree is for me to take someone away. Su Chen… You should know the name.”
’So they really did come specifically for me.’ Su Chen was certain of it. He nodded. “I know of him. Taking him away won’t be easy.”
The voice mulled it over for a moment before saying, “You should stick to finding the Divine Blood. Once you have it, it might be of great use for what comes next.”
“Great use?” Su Chen asked, confused. “We already have Wei Yinsuo under our control. Do we need to corrupt others?”
“People from Yuan Capital have arrived. They intend to use the Stone Slab to gain the recognition of the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator. If they succeed, things will get complicated.” The voice did not conceal this information.
’So Yuan Capital is also after the Stone Slab. And the Deceitful God knows it contains the information for the Great Venerable’s Profession.’
’Isn’t Great Venerable just a Profession? To acquire it, you need to gain recognition first?’
Su Chen couldn’t help but glance at his status panel, where the brilliant, Red Gold characters for that very Profession sat above all others.
’He never expected this guy to know so much.’
“Why would it be complicated?” Su Chen asked bluntly.
There was no response. Su Chen quietly raised his guard. Then, the voice came from within Wei Yinsuo’s body again: “You only need to follow orders.”
’This guy must be a High Priest to speak to a Priest like that.’
Su Chen turned to look at Wei Yinsuo and walked straight toward him. “This man… can he be trusted?”
“His life is in my hands. He’s someone who clings to life; he’ll make the wise choice.”
Su Chen hesitated. “But in his current state, he can’t keep this up for long. Have you figured out how you’re going to take Su Chen? Chong Jingtian is not to be trifled with.”
“When the time comes to take Su Chen, Chong Jingtian won’t know a thing.”
Wei Yinsuo remained expressionless. The being inside his body was conversing with this Priest Black Tuo as if he weren’t even there, discussing him and passing judgment. A deep sense of humiliation washed over him.
The figure had already reached the side of the hospital bed. From beneath the mask, dark pupils seemed to be sizing him up, scanning him.
“Do you have some advice for me?” Wei Yinsuo couldn’t help but ask.
“I wouldn’t dare call it advice. I was just…” Su Chen reached out and placed a hand on Wei Yinsuo’s shoulder. He immediately felt the Black Tuo Divine Power stirring restlessly within his body.
’So that’s how it is…’ Su Chen finally understood completely.
Multiple powers were hidden within Wei Yinsuo’s body. The outermost layer was Erosion Power, disguised as residual Deceptive Divine Power.
It couldn’t truly be called Divine Power, just destructive Energy with corrosive properties. Wrapped within it was the true Black Tuo Divine Power, hidden deep inside.
And the Black Tuo Divine Power, in turn, enveloped the High Priest’s consciousness. It was this layered concealment that made him feel so strange to Su Chen.
“What are you doing?”
Suddenly, a furious shout, tinged with anger, rang in Wei Yinsuo’s mind.
He immediately felt a power stirring within him, threatening to burst out, but it was quickly suppressed and fell calm once more.
’My authority isn’t as high as his…’ Su Chen frowned. He had just tried to draw out the Black Tuo Divine Power from the other’s body but had been blocked.
’However, if we’re comparing authority…’
“I just needed to confirm that you weren’t lying to me,” Su Chen said, shaking his head.
“Foolish! Can the connection between Believers be faked?” the voice rebuked coldly. “Yuan Peng’s people are so lacking in piety. Get out.”
He was furious, feeling that he had been offended.
“Apologies.” Su Chen seemed about to leave, but as he turned, he appeared to remember something. He turned back, his hand rising to his mask. “However, it seems you won’t be able to take Su Chen away after all.”
“And why is that?” The voice from within Wei Yinsuo’s body turned cold.
Wei Yinsuo’s brow furrowed, his attention completely captivated by the mask the man was slowly removing.
But the man’s hand paused, and he didn’t take it off.
Wei Yinsuo frowned, and then his expression changed drastically.
He didn’t know when, but the man was now holding a Dark Gold Long Saber in his right hand. Condensed, azure lightning flickered along its edge as arcs of electricity snaked around it, emitting a low, authoritative hum.
His speed was incredible. With a slight turn of his wrist, Su Chen sent the lightning on the blade flowing, tracing an afterimage through the air as it shot straight toward Wei Yinsuo, who was mere inches away.
’He’s trying to kill me!?’
Wei Yinsuo was horrified. He had never anticipated this.
But as a Tier Six Professional, even with an assassination attempt at point-blank range, he still managed to react, instinctively trying to resist.
But the searing pain wracking his body drove him to the brink of despair.
His grievous injuries were all too real. During the blood sacrifice, he had been beaten to the brink of death by the Black Tuo Followers, which was how he’d been taken captive.
CLANG!
Su Chen’s eyebrow twitched. His blade met Wei Yinsuo’s seemingly battered body but encountered significant resistance, as if he’d stabbed a sandbag filled with gravel. A crunching sound echoed.
’He’s this tough even when he’s so badly injured? Worthy of a Tier Six Professional.’
Lightning flashed in Su Chen’s eyes as he continuously increased the force behind his hands.
Wei Yinsuo was on the verge of despair when the High Priest’s furious voice finally roared in his mind, “What are you doing!?”
Wisps of black mist seeped out from Wei Yinsuo’s body, surging rapidly toward Su Chen.
Wei Yinsuo breathed a sigh of relief. Good, the High Priest inside him wasn’t useless after all.
But then, an expression of utter disbelief crossed his face. The black mist that had shot out to attack had instead become as docile as a tamed beast, circling gently around the man’s body.
The High Priest’s voice became incredulous, then horrified. “The Divine Blood!”
“How do you have the Divine Blood?”
“Who are you!? Why can you control the Divine Blood!”
He couldn’t understand. If the man was a Priest Black Tuo, he wouldn’t have attacked him. But if he wasn’t, how could he command the Divine Blood?
He could clearly… he could clearly sense the aura of one of the Saint Master’s Believers on him. So why would he attack a High Priest, a higher-ranking believer acting on a divine decree?
Wei Yinsuo saw a dark brown substance materialize in the man’s left hand—it seemed to be the Divine Blood itself.
He could sense it, too—the conviction of the High Priest inside him seemed to have been utterly shattered.
“Fight back!” Wei Yinsuo roared, trying to rouse the High Priest.
He could only watch helplessly as, from where the blade had pierced his body, wisps of intensely concentrated black smoke flowed out and were swiftly absorbed into Su Chen’s body.
