Chapter 242: Chapter 155: Fraught with Difficulties
Previously, professions like Wise Man and Scholar had three requirements each, but Spiritualist only had two. Su Chen, however, felt no joy.
’In a way, this probably means these two requirements are even harder.’
“The Nether Realm?” Su Chen’s gaze swept over the text. The second requirement stated that the place one entered for the Delirious Words Trial was called the Nether Realm.
“Another Delirious Words Trial?” A chill ran down Su Chen’s spine.
’I dodged the one for Word Spirit Law Master, and now another has popped up.’
He could at least try to meet the other requirements, but this Delirious Words Trial gave him absolutely no sense of security.
That Nether Realm was just too uncanny. He had entered three times and seen the Deceitful God twice.
[The Spiritualist pays its highest respects to the Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator and has voluntarily reduced its requirements. The amount of Spiritual Essence needed for fusion has been changed from three portions to one.]
It was the usual “Great Venerable showing his influence” segment. Unfortunately, the Spiritualist was sensible enough not to stubbornly disrespect him.
Although the required amount of Spiritual Essence for fusion was reduced from three portions to one, he still had to go to the Nether Realm.
Then, another message appeared on the panel—
[With the acquisition of Spiritualist, the Wise Men, Scholars, and Saints rejoice. The path of the Purifier has advanced. All that is needed now is to acquire Power User to unlock the path to Ascension.]
“…Power User…” Su Chen looked at the panel that had popped up. Though he hadn’t fulfilled all the requirements, it had revealed the name of the final profession.
“So, it’s Spiritual Essence,” Sang Hanhai said, leaning over to take a look. He shook his head. “That’s going to be tough.”
“What’s Spiritual Essence?” Su Chen asked. He had never even heard of the stuff.
“It’s a special material native to the Nether Realm,” Sang Hanhai explained. “It forms where large amounts of spiritual remnants pile up and is very beneficial for a Professional’s Spirit Body.”
Su Chen asked the crucial question. “Is it easy to find?”
Sang Hanhai shot him a glance. “What do you think? The Nether Realm is mysterious and fraught with danger. A big part of why spiritual-type Professionals are so rare is the difficulty of getting past the Delirious Words Trial.”
Seeing Su Chen’s long face, Sang Hanhai grinned. “But the Delirious Words Trial is one thing, and searching for something in the Nether Realm is another. The two are different.”
“Oh?” Su Chen perked up and looked over.
Pu Zhenghong picked up the conversation. “The place we call the Nether Realm is like the world’s shadow—two sides of the same whole.”
“Our preliminary theory is that it’s a place where the Spirit Bodies of living things converge after being annihilated. When the Spirit Body of a living person enters it, it’s like dropping a red-hot piece of iron into cold water.”
“The reason the Delirious Words Trial is a ’trial’ is because it forcibly broadcasts your spiritual presence on a massive scale, provoking even greater danger.”
“During the Delirious Words Trial, your Spirit Body is uncontrollable. Time, space, everything becomes a blur, and you can’t predict what you’ll encounter.”
’So that’s how it is,’ Su Chen realized instantly. Under normal circumstances, entering the Nether Realm wouldn’t be the disorienting mess it was during the Delirious Words Trial, where he could even run into the Deceitful God. The danger would be significantly lower.
Pu Zhenghong continued, “If you’re not undergoing the Delirious Words Trial, you can also use external methods to conceal your spiritual presence, further reducing the risk of being discovered.”
However, seeing Su Chen let out a sigh of relief, he felt compelled to add a warning. “But don’t let your guard down. The Nether Realm is no paradise. Stay too long, and you might be assimilated by it.”
“And besides, there are the frenzied Netherworld Creatures. Any single one of them could kill you with ease.”
Su Chen was already well aware of the dangers of that place. He never thought finding the Spiritual Essence would be easy.
Sang Hanhai shook his head. “Spiritual Essence is rare. It’s also beneficial to Netherworld Creatures, which makes it very hard to find.”
“Besides, you appear in a different location every time you enter the Nether Realm, so you can’t search systematically. It’s basically a matter of luck. Considering how dangerous the Nether Realm is, never mind Low-tier Professionals—even High Tier ones won’t go in unless they have to.”
’It’s that much of a hassle, huh?’ Su Chen couldn’t help but ask, “Did Hongxuan from Yuan Capital take this profession?”
Sang Hanhai’s expression turned grave. “Not just Spiritualist. I’d wager he’s taken Scholar and Wise Man as well. That’s the only way he could have achieved his unprecedented Scarlet Talent.”
“Then how did Yuan Capital find Spiritual Essence in the Nether Realm? Do they have some secret method?” Su Chen wondered.
Sang Hanhai sneered. “Perhaps they had some help from the Deceitful God Sect.”
“That’s enough,” Pu Zhenghong chided. Spouting baseless accusations would only put them on the back foot. “It’s probably just a method unique to Yuan Capital.”
Su Chen’s interest was piqued. “The Deceitful God Sect has influence in the Nether Realm?”
“Of course,” Sang Hanhai said, his voice much lower after the scolding. “The Nether Realm is suspected to be the location of the Deceitful God’s true body. Many of the techniques the Deceitful God’s Followers use rely on the Nether Realm, and the things in there don’t dare to provoke them.”
“Is that so,” Su Chen said, quite surprised. ’If I disguise myself as another Priest, could I pass through unhindered?’
With that in mind, he asked another question. “Have you two ever heard of other professions like Spiritualist or Wise Man? Something like a Madman, or Power User?”
Pu Zhenghong and Sang Hanhai exchanged a look and smiled in unison. “Professions like that aren’t so easy to find.”
“If any do exist, they’re probably in those ruins. The Holy Word Stones that record these professions were all excavated from that site.”
’The ruins left by the last person to become a Great Venerable?’
He pondered this as he took his leave, but before he left, he didn’t forget to add a reminder.
“Elder Pu, Elder Sang, if you happen to get any powerful professions from Yuan Capital that I’d be able to take, remember to let me know.”
