Chapter 259: Chapter 163: Promotion to Word Spirit Law Master, Power of Word Spirit (2)
’It nearly drained me dry… This is ridiculous…’ Su Chen rubbed his temples, looking all around, but he couldn’t find the water he had asked for anywhere.
’That’s probably not how it works.’
His Gourmet trait continued to convert Physical Strength. Once he had fully recovered, Su Chen tried again, saying, “Take off my clothes.”
This time, it only consumed a small portion of his Spiritual Power. An unseen force manipulated his clothes, and they fell away.
He then experimented further for the better part of an hour and identified more patterns.
’This ability is like a rigid program…’ Su Chen mused, stroking his chin. ’The more specific the target and the clearer the method, the less it consumes.’
His initial command, “Let there be water,” was tantamount to creating something from nothing. Not only could his Spiritual Power not support it, but the ability itself couldn’t accomplish it either.
’The best way to use it should be target plus method,’ Su Chen concluded.
’It’s a bit cumbersome, but it’s still incredibly powerful. It indirectly makes up for my lack of combat techniques, and I can convert Spiritual Power in real-time for a continuous supply.’ Su Chen was quite satisfied.
’Using it to kill an ordinary Tier Four Professional probably wouldn’t be a problem. If I boosted it with Holy Hand, I wonder if it could even cause trouble for a Tier Five Professional.’
He glanced over the lines of text from his promotion again, a sense of satisfaction washing over him, then looked at the very top.
[Word Spirit Law Master: 0%]
[Cyan Thunder Master: 92%]
It wouldn’t be long before his Cyan Thunder Master could be promoted as well.
’When that happens, I’ll have to replace my Body Refining Technique, Meditation Technique, and Support Potions…’ Su Chen thought, then frowned. ’But isn’t my promotion speed a bit too fast? It’s as if I don’t even need to meet the profession’s requirements.’
’I’ll wait until Cyan Thunder Master is promoted too, then replace all my resources at once. It won’t be long anyway, and it’ll save me the trouble.’
’First, I’ll have Gu Bing prepare the materials to upgrade my weapons.’
Su Chen took out the Scale Armor, Spirit Blade, and War Boots from his Storage Space, then used his Soldier Nurturer ability to perceive them one by one.
’Earth Dragon Dark Scale, Dragon Bone Cold Iron, Illusory Mirage Hide… It needs quite a few materials.’
After identifying what was needed for the upgrades, Su Chen sent a message to Gu Bing, asking her to start preparing them.
’As for a new Secret Artifact to control…’ Su Chen mused. He already had attack, defense, and speed covered.
He stretched out his hand, and a Metal Mask appeared in his palm. ’Maybe I should enhance my Concealment?’
After thinking for a moment, Su Chen put it away. Once you used Secret Artifact Control on an item, you couldn’t change it, so there was no rush.
Without losing momentum, Su Chen rested for a moment, gulped down a few mouthfuls of a Nutritional Potion, and then continued to develop his Cyan Thunder Master profession.
He planned to wait until he obtained the Spiritual Essence and became a Spiritualist before mentioning the matter of viewing the Stone Slab to Chong Jingtian and the others.
If there was only one chance, it was better to be safe. It was still hard to say how exactly his panel recorded things.
“Chief…”
He Kang followed behind Chong Jingtian, his thick brows knitted together. He swallowed hard, his eyes darting around nervously. A few others followed him, all Inner Court Seeds from the Judicial Court, looking just as anxious.
“Where are we going?”
He couldn’t help but ask. The group was walking down a narrow metal corridor, and the cramped space, combined with the unknown situation, made them uneasy.
They had every reason to be.
Earlier today, Chong Jingtian had suddenly gathered them together and blocked their five senses. When they opened their eyes, they were already in this narrow corridor, with no idea where they were.
It seemed like he was taking them to some secret location.
But instead of the excitement of being entrusted with a great responsibility, the group felt mostly dread.
If it were something good, the Core Seeds would have been first in line. There was no way it would be their turn.
“We’re here.” Chong Jingtian stopped. He Kang focused his gaze and saw a heavy metal door ahead. It was open, revealing it to be dozens of centimeters thick. Forged from a dark alloy, the Talismans etched onto its surface pulsed with light in the dim surroundings, as if breathing.
Standing beside it was the white-haired Pu Zhenghong.
Inside the doorway was a mass of crimson mist, which periodically arced with red lightning, obscuring whatever lay within.
’Elder Pu is here too…’ He Kang’s heart trembled. His legs went weak; it seemed the grander the occasion, the more terrified he became.
“Chief…”
“Can’t you show a little courage?” Seeing his state, Chong Jingtian grew annoyed and said coldly, “He Kang, you go in first.”
“Chief…” He Kang called out again, hoping to appeal to Chong Jingtian’s sense of protectiveness.
Ever since Xiao Ying’s death, he and Wei Yufan had drifted apart. Surely Chong Jingtian wouldn’t punish him again over those past events.
“Get in!”
Without another word, Chong Jingtian kicked him straight inside.
“AH!”
He Kang let out a miserable cry as he tumbled into the crimson mist. After staggering a few steps, he managed to steady himself and instinctively looked up.
Before him stood a gigantic Stone Slab, as tall as a man. It was an irregular, broken fragment, its edges lined with jagged cracks.
The slab itself was a dull cinnabar color, faintly glowing with the weak luster of flowing lava. Rows of symbols were carved upon it, and dark gold crystals had precipitated in the recessed grooves of these symbols.
“This is…” He Kang stared instinctively, his mind seemingly drawn in, but he couldn’t see it clearly through the hazy mist that shrouded it.
Vaguely, he thought he saw a pair of dragon eyes, their vertical pupils flickering with dark gold flames and flashing with crackling lightning.
A faint clap of thunder echoed in his ears, seemingly tinged with fury.
He Kang’s face twitched. As if struck by a heavy blow, he was sent flying backward out of the mist.
With quick reflexes, Chong Jingtian grabbed him.
The world spun around He Kang, and a sharp pain shot through his chest. He looked down to see that his torso was already charred black.
“What did you see?” Chong Jingtian asked.
“I… I…” He Kang’s expression was vacant. He tried to recall what happened, but all he remembered was being kicked in and then sent flying back out.
Seeing his condition, Chong Jingtian understood. Although he had expected as much, he still shook his head in disappointment and tossed him a tube of green Potion.
“A Biyun Potion?” He Kang caught it, shocked. This was an extremely precious medical Potion, capable of healing even the injuries of a Tier Five Professional.
Enduring the piercing pain in his chest, he downed it in one gulp. A green light immediately enveloped the wound on his chest as new flesh writhed and knitted together, repairing the injury.
“Ren Yong.” Chong Jingtian looked at the next person. The man gave a bitter smile, walked in as if accepting his fate, and was then sent flying back out.
This cycle repeated until only one person was left.
“AHH…” A bloodcurdling scream came from the mist. The final figure flew out, his left arm having exploded, splattering blood everywhere and leaving only a mangled stump.
Chong Jingtian’s expression changed. He rushed forward to catch him, pulled out a Biyun Potion, and poured it into his mouth to stabilize the injury.
Only then did he turn to Pu Zhenghong and ask in a low voice, “That was only five people. Why did it get angry?”
Pu Zhenghong was also surprised. “Spiritual nature is like human nature,” he said helplessly. “No one can predict it.”
Chong Jingtian’s brows furrowed. He reached out and produced a bottle of purplish-gold Potion from somewhere. It was thick like a gel and he sprinkled it on the bare bone of the arm where flesh no longer clung.
Immediately, flesh and blood began to grow back on the bone at a visible rate, and the arm was soon as good as new.
“Thank you, Chief…” The man’s face was deathly pale. Chong Jingtian patted his shoulder, then glanced at the others, their faces full of terror, and said in a low voice, “Go wait for me at the entrance.”
“Fortunately, although its Spiritual nature was angered, it didn’t attach the Power of Thunder Punishment. The damage can be repaired,” Pu Zhenghong remarked, pulling his gaze away.
The Biyun Potion was remarkably effective, and He Kang and the others’ injuries were almost fully healed. Hearing Chong Jingtian’s words, they quickly turned and left.
After watching them leave, Pu Zhenghong shook his head and said, “They all have the Red Gold Talent. It was useless for them to come. Why make them suffer like this?”
“What if it had worked…” Chong Jingtian sighed. “Pinning all our hopes on Su Chen alone is too unfair to him.”
Pu Zhenghong understood Chong Jingtian’s reasoning, but still said, “Isn’t there also Hongxuan?”
“Hongxuan…” Chong Jingtian fell silent.
“You can’t avoid this. When the people from Yuan Capital arrive, they will have a foolproof plan,” Pu Zhenghong said grimly. “Even if Su Chen succeeds, the Spiritual nature imbued in this broken Stone Slab is not enough to make him the chosen one. He will have to go to the ruins.”
“If Yuan Capital doesn’t agree, the ruins cannot be opened. They will definitely make Hongxuan view the Stone Slab. If Su Chen fails, we can still only pin our hopes on Hongxuan.”
“Unless you intend to drag them all down with you.”
