Chapter 264: Chapter 166: Promotion to Calamity Patrol Envoy, the Freakish Tyrant
[Azure Thunder Cloud Collapse evolves into Azure Thunder Disaster: Attacks are imbued with the Power of Calamity.]
[Thunder Undying Armor evolves into Thunder Disaster Armor: Can counter enemy attacks. The counter is imbued with the Power of Calamity.]
[Thunder Walk has been enhanced!]
[Cyan Thunder Master evolves into Disaster Lord: In the presence of the Disaster Lord, the more Power of Calamity a target has accumulated within them, the worse their luck will become.]
[New Professional Ability Acquired—Catastrophe Strike: Detonate the Power of Calamity accumulated within a target, inflicting immense damage.]
The metamorphosis gradually subsided. The sensation of his body being torn apart faded, replaced by a surging, vibrant Life Force.
“Huu…” Su Chen took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. His breath was long and steady, laced with flickering specks of black lightning.
He glanced over his new abilities.
’The Power of Calamity must be the core of the Calamity Patrol Envoy class.’
’Worse luck? How does that even work? They choke on water? Trip over their own feet in the middle of a fight?’
’Immense damage… but just how immense?’
Su Chen was quite curious as he muttered to himself. A black spark of lightning flashed on his fingertip and vanished.
Unfortunately, all these abilities required a target to be tested. After taking a moment to acclimate to his body, Su Chen reached into his Storage Space and pulled out a large box.
Opening it revealed ingots of various colored metals, neatly stacked dark-gold scales, and other assorted metallic materials.
These were all materials for upgrading the Secret Artifacts under his control.
Gu Bing had delivered them a few days ago, but Su Chen had been on the verge of his Cyan Thunder Master evolution, so he had held off until today.
He first took out the Purple Gold Scale Armor. The dark-gold scales he had set aside floated up, along with a few pieces of an ink-black metal called [Ink Steel], which was also quite expensive.
The Purple Gold Scale Armor trembled nonstop as its surface rippled like water. The dark-gold scales moved as if they were alive, precisely embedding themselves into the gaps of the original Armor.
The two materials began a wondrous fusion. The flowing luster of the Purple Gold Scale Armor was swiftly devoured by the blackness, and a dazzling light erupted from the seams. Each individual scale began to restructure at a rate visible to the naked eye.
The smooth surface of the armor grew the distinct, three-dimensional ridges of dragon scales, while its edges naturally formed sharp, jagged arcs.
The Dark Dragon Scale Armor took on a base color as deep as a starry sky, with patterns like molten gold flowing across it.
The Scale Armor suddenly contracted, fitting itself snugly together as a faint black mist seeped from the gaps between the scales. The mist condensed on the Armor’s surface, forming miniature dragon shadows that roamed erratically along its patterns.
[Dark Dragon Scale Armor — Tier Four: Forged from Earth Dragon Dark Scale and supplemented with Ink Steel. Possesses extremely high resistance to Elemental Power and astonishing defensive capabilities.]
’Not bad…’ Su Chen looked at the ink-black Scale Armor before him and flicked it with a finger, producing a crisp, metallic ring.
The process had consumed a great deal of his Spiritual Power, but he now had Gourmet to rapidly convert his Physical Strength, so he continued upgrading the remaining items.
[Formless True Edge — Tier Four: Forged from Dragon Bone Cold Gold and supplemented with a nano-core. Can transform its weapon form in an extremely short amount of time.]
[Celestial Soaring War Boots — Tier Four: Wrapped in Illusory Mirage Hide. Creates ten layers of afterimages with every movement.]
The remaining two Secret Artifacts under his control were also upgraded to Tier Four, and their respective areas of specialty were dramatically improved.
’Hmm, I suppose this counts as a complete advancement now…’ Su Chen thought, satisfied. After tidying up a bit, he headed out the door.
’Two days ago, I got a message from the Translation Department. The Spiritual Essence from Yuan Capital has arrived and is just waiting for me to pick it up.’ Su Chen couldn’t help but grin as he walked. ’It feels great to have things handed to you on a silver platter.’
He headed straight for the Translation Department. Sang Hanhai had already received his message and was waiting for him.
“You certainly took your time. The items arrived two days ago, and you’re only showing up now,” Sang Hanhai remarked, seeing him leisurely stroll in.
“I had some urgent business these past few days. My apologies for the trouble, sir.” Fresh off his advancement to Tier Four, Su Chen was in high spirits and gave a cheerful laugh.
“Oh, you…” Sang Hanhai shook his head and led Su Chen deeper into the Translation Department.
The items were in Pu Zhenghong’s care. Su Chen watched as he opened a long, black box lined with dark velvet, inside of which lay two pale-gold tassels.
Every single strand was distinct, each one shimmering with a faint light. Tiny crystal pendants adorned their ends, which rose and fell gently as if they were alive.
As if sensing the lid opening, they seemed to want to escape. But the box was no ordinary container; interwoven black chains materialized and locked them within.
Su Chen faintly heard two shrill cries.
“So this is Spiritual Essence,” Su Chen said, staring. ’How incredible.’
“I have no idea what method Yuan Capital uses to find so many of these,” Pu Zhenghong couldn’t help but add. “Two portions of Spiritual Essence… if you’re lucky, you might gain half of the Professional Abilities for the class.”
The requirement for becoming a Spiritualist was three portions of Spiritual Essence, but receiving two portions didn’t mean you would gain two-thirds of the abilities.
The requirements for a profession were difficult to quantify; many factors were at play. Being short by just one portion could mean a world of difference.
“Alright, stop staring. Get ready to begin your class advancement,” Sang Hanhai urged.
“Now?” Su Chen looked up, stunned.
“Of course,” Sang Hanhai said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “My senior brother and I have overseen countless class advancements. With us keeping an eye on things, we can alert you if anything unexpected happens.”
“Er…” Su Chen hesitated. He only needed one portion of Spiritual Essence for his advancement. If these two saw that, he’d have to waste his breath explaining, and who knew what kind of trouble that might stir up.
“You don’t want to?” Sang Hanhai sensed Su Chen’s hesitation and asked, displeased, “Don’t you trust us?”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you,” Su Chen said helplessly. “This is just the first time I’d be attempting a class advancement with people watching. I’m feeling a bit anxious, and I’m worried that might cause problems.”
