Chapter 268: Chapter 168: Confronting the Spiritual
“It’s fine. Everyone is here, let’s go.” Chong Jingtian waved his hand.
But Wu Chenpei remained motionless, his face expressionless, his eyes fixed on Su Chen.
’He’s reached Tier Four as well? How could it be so fast?’
’Did he switch to a lower-level class with simpler requirements to force the promotion?’
After Hongxuan’s defeat, Wu Chenpei had searched for more detailed information about Su Chen. Information about him before he came to Ying Feng was still relatively vague.
But the intelligence on him since arriving in Ying Feng was crystal clear. Su Chen had been reclusive, so where would he have found the time to complete the requirements for his class?
Behind him, Hongxuan also shot a glance over. His brow furrowed, then relaxed, as he put on a facade of calm indifference.
“Why bother?” Wu Chenpei shook his head. ’Forcing a promotion to a lower-level class… His future might as well be ruined.’
’He was able to beat Hongxuan before, but now, Hongxuan could probably crush him with one hand.’
’Moreover, this would actually lower his chances of being recognized by the Spiritual entity. What a shame,’ Wu Chenpei thought with regret.
“Let’s go.” Chong Jingtian didn’t elaborate, simply saying, “The place we’re going next is a secret, so I need to seal all of your senses. Saint Envoy, do not resist.”
“Go ahead,” Wu Chenpei nodded.
Chong Jingtian gestured for You Shan to come forward. She quickly drew intricate Talismans across the bodies of Wu Chenpei and Hongxuan, followed by Su Chen and the others.
The moment the Talismans covered him, Su Chen felt his perception of the outside world sever. His Spiritual Power was sealed, and his vision plunged into darkness. He could only sense his immediate surroundings within a radius of one or two meters.
The sensation was deeply uncomfortable, but soon, his body lifted into the air uncontrollably. In this state, it was impossible to get his bearings.
He could occasionally hear the whirring of machinery. After an unknown amount of time, Su Chen finally felt his feet touch the ground.
Once the seal on his five senses was lifted, he found himself in a narrow metal corridor, only wide enough for three or four people to stand abreast. The lighting, however, was bright and clear.
Chong Jingtian led the way, with Wu Chenpei and Hongxuan following right behind him. Xia Hanshi and his men came next, as if they were bracketing the two from front and back.
Su Chen, Ming Lin, and the others brought up the rear.
“When did you reach Tier Four?” Ming Lin finally had a chance to speak, his expression complex.
“Not long after you did,” Su Chen replied after a moment’s thought, deciding not to provoke him further.
’This freak…’ Ming Lin opened his mouth, wanting to ask what level his class was, but he remembered the Yuan Capital people were still there and stifled the impulse.
’But it’s probably not a weak one,’ he reasoned. He knew a bit about Su Chen’s personality—the man could lock himself in the Gravity Chamber for a month straight to train without coming out.
’He definitely wouldn’t have accepted a class that was too weak.’
’But if it was a Superior, or even a Top Level one, then this speed is just too fast.’
’During the fight with Hongxuan, he clearly hadn’t pushed his class to its limit. To reach Tier Four already… doesn’t he need to complete the advancement requirements?’
Ming Lin couldn’t figure it out. He wanted to ask but knew it wasn’t the right time, and holding back the question was agonizing.
Beside them, Wei Yufan kept his head down, standing apart from the pair.
“We’re here.”
Hearing Chong Jingtian’s voice, Xia Hanshi and the others stopped in their tracks. Su Chen also paused, and the first person he saw was Old Pu, who was waiting there.
’Xia Hanshi…’ Pu Zhenghong sneered inwardly, his expressionless gaze sweeping past him.
Only then did he see Su Chen at the very back, and a flicker of astonishment appeared in his aged eyes.
’Why is he here too? Don’t tell me… he’s Tier Four?’
At this thought, Pu Zhenghong grew annoyed. ’That scoundrel Chong Jingtian! To let Su Chen catch up, did he actually have him advance to a lower-level class?’
’No… perhaps it wasn’t Chong Jingtian, but Xia Hanshi. That old bastard, so short-sighted!’
He couldn’t say anything in front of the Yuan Capital people, but his glare at Xia Hanshi grew even colder.
’Spineless coward…’ Xia Hanshi also glanced at Pu Zhenghong. Seeing that the other man still seemed to harbor a grudge against him, he sneered inwardly.
“Why did the mood suddenly turn so grim?” Ming Lin muttered, just as he saw Chong Jingtian slowly pulling open the metal gate before them, his attention immediately captivated.
“This is…” Su Chen looked over as well, his gaze captured along with everyone else’s.
As the colossal metal door was pulled open, wisps of crimson mist drifted out, threaded with crackling arcs of electricity.
“Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator…” Wu Chenpei took a deep breath. After thirty years, he was finally seeing this Stone Slab again. His younger brother had died because of it.
A flicker of desire appeared deep in Hongxuan’s eyes.
“It’s actually shrouded in mist…” Su Chen was quite surprised; he had expected to see the Stone Slab itself.
“Wei Yufan,” Chong Jingtian suddenly called. Wei Yufan, who had been standing at the very back, strode forward.
“You go first,” Chong Jingtian said. In truth, Wei Yufan was already over the thirty-year-old age limit.
But he had let him come anyway; otherwise, knowing Wei Yufan, the man would surely harbor resentment.
Wei Yufan stared at the crimson mist before him, his heart pounding. He had heard the rumors about this place long ago and had been waiting for this chance.
Whispers said that the legendary class was no ordinary one—it was Spiritual. To acquire it, one needed to be recognized. Those who were not recognized would be grievously injured.
’I may only have Red Gold Talent, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to gain recognition. Otherwise, the Chief wouldn’t have bothered finding people to make the attempt.’
He thought to himself, looking at the grand setup, that he understood the importance of this day. As long as he was recognized, his once-shaken foundation would become unbreakable.
Wei Yufan’s eyes firmed with resolve, and he stepped into the mist without a hint of hesitation.
A moment later, he staggered back out, a look of bewilderment on his face. His chest throbbed with a faint, sharp pain, but the injury was not severe.
