- Chapter 300 - 183: The Function of Deceitful God’s Power (Part 2)

’I can start by using the Faceless Ghost Divine Power to erase one requirement. It might remove one that’s already been weakened, but that’s better than using another Divine Power to alter it, only to have it get erased in the end.’
’If it doesn’t erase the weakened requirement, which would be for the best, I can then use Crimson and Cunning Fox to influence it. With one addition and one subtraction, the difficulty won’t change, but I’ll gain an extra reward.’
’If I run into a requirement that’s truly impossible to meet, I’ll gamble with the Power of Dark Plague.’
’This seems like the best approach,’ Su Chen mused. ’I can always adjust the order if I come across other types of Deceitful God’s Power in the future.’
’It’s a shame that the demands created by the influence of Black Tuo’s Power don’t count as profession requirements,’ Su Chen thought with a pang of regret.
’In that case, I need to properly plan how to handle the two special professions I have. I need to figure out the fastest way to weaken their requirements so I can take them on.’
“Su Chen!” Just as he was lost in thought, someone called out to him. He looked up to find he had arrived at his residence. Two men were waiting for him by the door.
“Senior…” Su Chen’s gaze fell on Bu Siqi, then shifted to the weather-beaten middle-aged man beside him as he reined in his thoughts. “This must be Judge Qin Qingfeng?”
Bu Siqi nodded. “That’s right. This is the Old Qin I was telling you about. Right now, in our Judicial Court—and in all of Ying Feng, for that matter—he’s the only person on record for having undergone a Professional Fusion who is still alive.”
“Brother Qin…” Su Chen greeted him warmly. His All Things profession required him to attempt a Professional Fusion, and when he’d looked into it after returning yesterday, he was surprised to find someone in the Judicial Court who had accidentally done it.
“Not at all, not at all…” Qin Qingfeng waved his hands dismissively, a look of alarm on his face. Although Professional Fusion was exceedingly rare, he was, in fact, only a Tier Three Professional.
His Professional Fusion had happened back when he was at Tier One.
He currently worked in the logistics department.
Qin Qingfeng’s awe was understandable. After all, Su Chen was the same young man who, just yesterday, had gone to pick up Potions and pried five Biyun Potions from the supervisor’s hands, leaving the man so heartbroken he’d skipped dinner.
“Please, come in. Come in.”
Su Chen opened the door, ushering the two men inside. He instructed No. Zero to pour some tea before asking about the Professional Fusion.
“To be honest, I didn’t even know it was a Professional Fusion back then…” Qin Qingfeng trailed off, lost in memory. “It was almost twenty years ago. I was just a young man at the time. With my Silver Talent, I was quite sought after in my home city.”
“A Silver Talent twenty years ago was incredibly impressive for the time,” Su Chen remarked. Back then, the Dome Light wasn’t yet widespread, the threat from Mutant Species was more direct, and the population was sparse.
’It was like being a college graduate twenty years ago in his previous life.’
’Impressive?’ Qin Qingfeng looked at Su Chen, a bitter smile touching his lips.
“Back then, I was young and foolishly overconfident, thinking I could manage two professions at once. But my Spirit Talent was only Brass. I managed to get a Tier One Profession easily enough, but Tier Two took immense effort, and Tier Three was completely out of the question.”
He seemed to be in a daze as he spoke. Su Chen was already a Core Seed of the Judicial Court with unparalleled prestige, yet he remained so humble.
’If I’d had half his mindset back then and just focused on my Physical Side profession, maybe I could have reached Tier Four instead of being stuck at Tier Three.’
“Ah, I’m getting sidetracked…” Qin Qingfeng quickly pulled himself back to the topic. “Back then, both my spiritual and physical professions were at Tier One. I got cocky and snuck out of the city, wanting to hunt some Mutant Species.”
“But then I ran into a Cyan Wind Wolf Pack and was nearly surrounded and killed. It was in that moment of desperation that I faintly felt my body and spirit become one. My power skyrocketed, and that’s the only reason I managed to fight my way out.”
“A moment of desperation… becoming one…” Su Chen frowned. “What exactly did that feel like?”
Qin Qingfeng thought back carefully. His mouth opened and closed a few times before he finally managed to utter three words: “Hard to describe.”
“Old Qin, that’s not helpful at all,” Bu Siqi said, exasperated.
Qin Qingfeng sighed in resignation. “How can I explain it? Let’s say my Spiritual Power is water and my body is a stone. The feeling was like… the water dissolving into the stone.”
“Afterward, I tried to replicate it many times, but it was incredibly difficult. It was like the water was just water again, and the stone was just a stone.”
The analogy was so crude that Bu Siqi rolled his eyes, but Su Chen seemed lost in thought. He was reminded of how he felt when he became a Reverser.
’Maybe… being a Reverser has already laid the foundation for me. Trying a Professional Fusion might not be as hard as I thought,’ Su Chen mused.
Many things are separated by only a paper-thin barrier. Before this, Su Chen had no concrete concept of the so-called Professional Fusion.
The few lines in the official records were full of nonsensical theories. Old Qin’s crude analogy was far more useful.
“Also, I have a half-baked theory,” Qin Qingfeng said in a low voice.
“Oh?” Su Chen’s eyes snapped toward him. Qin Qingfeng quickly added, “It’s just a personal hunch.”
“Oh, just say it. It’s not like we’re going to blame you for it,” Bu Siqi urged.
“When you’re in a weakened state… the body’s barriers might weaken a bit,” he whispered.
’A weakened state…’ Su Chen made a mental note. Everyone wants to become stronger. Old Qin had probably tried many times in secret and built up some experience.
Su Chen thanked Old Qin again, prompting the man to wave his hands in dismissal. “I just said a few words. It’s not worthy of such thanks, really.”
’I wonder how Hongxuan managed this requirement. There must be simpler methods out there, maybe even a whole system developed for it,’ Su Chen speculated.
After seeing the two men out, Su Chen went down to his basement. His interface panel materialized, and he stared at the two special professions, continuing his earlier train of thought.
’I only have one Faceless Ghost Essence. But now that Professional Fusion seems more achievable, I can afford to gamble that essence on the Life Burner profession.’
Su Chen calculated for a moment. First, he converted forty-five portions of low-tier Cunning Fox Divine Power into eleven portions of the middle-tier version. With the one he already had, he now possessed a total of twelve portions of Mid-tier Deceitful Fox Divine Power.
He then used nine of those portions to begin converting them into Sly Fox Essence. Based on his previous experience converting the Faceless Ghost Essence, he estimated it would take at least half a month.
After careful consideration, he decided to use the single portion of Sly Fox Essence he already had on the first requirement for the All Things profession.
[All Things Profession Requirement One – Difficulty Increased: Both prior professions must have been Top Level, with no disparity between their respective Talents. Completing this requirement and accepting the profession will grant an additional reward.]
“Tsk…” Su Chen couldn’t help but grin as he read the description. The difficulty increase was significant, but it was more or less what he had expected.
He chose to use it on the first requirement because he sensed its core was tied to the dual professions and the disparity between Talents.
His main professions were already top-tier and his Talents were equal, so even with the increased difficulty, he still had a chance of meeting the requirement directly.
If it had been a specific Talent requirement, he would have had to reconsider. If it were enhanced to something on the level of Scarlet, he would have no choice but to use Crimson Essence to revert the change.
’In that case, I can use the Crimson Essence on the second requirement.’
This was precisely why he had used the Sly Fox Essence first. If he could still meet the first requirement, he could then free up his Crimson Essence to try weakening the Professional Fusion requirement.
Without hesitation, Su Chen immediately called upon the Crimson Essence and selected the second requirement for the All Things profession.
[All Things Profession Requirement Two cannot be weakened further. You have received one instance of guidance. Please attempt when fully prepared.]
“Hm?” Su Chen paused. ’So this is what they mean by a requirement that can’t be weakened. It makes sense. The fusion only needs to happen once; you can’t exactly split that into half an attempt.’
’Is this guidance meant to walk me through the Professional Fusion?’
Su Chen speculated, but since he didn’t know the specifics, he didn’t act rashly. Besides, the description had emphasized that he needed to be fully prepared.
’I’d better try it on my own a couple of times first to get some experience before I use this guidance.’
Having made up his mind, Su Chen set the All Things profession aside and turned his attention to Life Burner.
This profession was even more troublesome.
’Even if I use Crimson Essence to weaken the difficulty, I estimate it would only reduce the requirement from burning ten years of my life to five. That’s probably the best I can hope for,’ Su Chen thought, his brow furrowing slightly.
He could decide whether to use the ability after he got the profession, but he absolutely couldn’t afford to lose any of his life span just to acquire it.
