- Chapter 319 - 193: The So-called Holy Profession

Lan Hao brushed past Su Chen, his face expressionless. The azure flames nearly scorched Su Chen’s body, prompting him to look more closely.
Azure flames burned on the surface of his skin. Around his shoulder, the fractured collarbone extended crystalline bone buds within the azure fire, moving as if alive as they interlinked to form a new skeletal structure.
Necrotic muscle tissue was broken down by the flames, while new flesh grew and intertwined at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Seeing him ignore everyone and just walk away, Lin Yue scoffed. “Brainless and not even strong enough to back it up. Who’s he putting on that long face for?”
The fact that Qing Cang had brought him meant Lan Hao’s background was anything but simple. But by the same token, the other two were no less impressive.
Lin Yue said this while Lan Hao was still within earshot. He stiffened for a moment, then his pace quickened.
“Don’t worry, there’s nothing he can do to you,” Lin Yue said, seeing Su Chen staring after Lan Hao’s retreating figure and assuming he was worried.
Her words were pointed, clearly alluding to the possibility of Qing Cang taking him on as a student.
“What does ’Blue Flame Phoenix’ mean?” Su Chen asked, his curiosity piqued.
“It’s the moniker for his family.” Seeing his curiosity, a mischievous and teasing smile appeared on Lin Yue’s fair, lovely face. “The story behind that can’t be explained in just a sentence or two.”
“You want to know? How about this: come to my room later, and I’ll tell you all about it.”
Su Chen was left speechless. He glanced at Lin Yue. The woman was tall, only half a head shorter than him, and always dressed in a black combat suit. With her chin held high, her pride was obvious. ’Getting involved with her would be nothing but trouble.’
Shaking his head, Su Chen offered no reply. He averted his gaze and looked toward Wan Chen, who was walking down.
’This guy…’ Lin Yue was speechless. ’It was bad enough that he didn’t say anything, but he just glanced at me and shook his head?’
’Su Chen is fitting in like a fish in water…’ Nearby, Chong Jingtian took in the entire scene. ’It’s only been a few days, yet he’s already blending in with this group.’
’After this little episode, Lan Hao will surely hold a grudge, but at the same time, it will reshape the others’ impression of Su Chen.’
“Master Qing…” Wan Chen greeted Qing Cang with composure.
Qing Cang gave a slight nod. He offered no comment on the fight, only saying, “Lan Hao’s Heart is coarse and rash. Pay it no mind.”
He wasn’t making excuses for Lan Hao; he just didn’t want the two of them getting into an irreversible conflict on his watch.
’Once they returned, it wouldn’t be his problem even if they beat each other to death.’
“Understood.” He nodded.
With that, Qing Cang turned and left, the others following close behind.
Wan Chen’s gaze fell upon Su Chen. Lan Hao’s recent move had been to prod Su Chen into sticking his neck out, but his real target had been Wan Chen himself.
Without any planning, he and Su Chen had effectively teamed up to make a fool of Lan Hao.
’When Su Chen approached me earlier, I genuinely thought he had been cowed by Lan Hao and had no desire to speak with him. But now, it seems he has some value after all.’
“Brother Su Chen,” he called out. Su Chen gave him a surprised look, then slowed his pace to walk alongside Wan Chen.
Qing Cang and Chong Jingtian seemed to have unfinished business, as they headed back to the upper cockpit.
“With a stunt like that, given Lan Hao’s temperament, he’s bound to hold a grudge.”
As Wan Chen brought the matter up again, Su Chen shook his head. “If he hadn’t insisted on taking me to you all, this might not have happened.”
Ultimately, Lan Hao brought all of this on himself. If he hadn’t had ulterior motives and was just offering a simple suggestion, he wouldn’t have sought Su Chen out again, and today’s incident would never have occurred.
Hearing this, Wan Chen felt a new wave of admiration. As one of the parties involved, he could naturally piece together the logic of the situation.
After a moment of silence, Su Chen asked his question again. “When the fight ended, I heard Lin Yue mention the Blue Flame Phoenix. Is she referring to Lan Hao’s family?”
“The Blue Flame Phoenix…” Wan Chen mused for a moment before nodding. “That’s right. His family is known by that moniker.”
“Is it because of that healing ability?” Su Chen asked, following up.
“You could say that,” Wan Chen nodded. ’It’s not much of a secret,’ he thought. ’Su Chen would find out eventually.’
“But Lan Hao’s healing ability isn’t actually that strong. It has its limitations; it can’t be activated in the middle of a fight. It’s hardly worthy of the ’Phoenix’ title.”
“So, this ability of his can become even stronger?” Su Chen grew more interested. He was in desperate need of a Profession with this kind of self-healing capability.
“Of course.” Wan Chen warmed up to the topic and decided to speak freely. “The Blue Flame Phoenix isn’t just famous in the Bronze Sect; they’re renowned throughout the Dust Star Sea.”
“The core of their power stems from the Holy Profession they’ve mastered, which is named Phoenix.”
As Su Chen listened, his eyes widened slightly. ’Holy Profession?’
He had been curious about this term for a long time. Now that someone had finally mentioned it, he immediately asked, “A Holy Profession? What is a Holy Profession?”
“Hmm… It’s a little complicated to explain.” Wan Chen stopped walking to think, unsurprised by Su Chen’s curiosity.
“You know about the Morning Star Tier, right? The Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator is a Morning Star Tier Professional. Besides the inherent requirements of that Profession, one must also be a Double Eighth Tier Professional to be promoted.”
“Through the Unity of Spirit and Body, you ignite the Morning Star Fire. At the moment of advancement, the Morning Star Fire will take all the special Professions you’ve ever held, combine them with the traits of your new Morning Star Tier, and forge them into your own exclusive Holy Profession.”
’So that’s how it works.’ It was a revelation for Su Chen. He had speculated for a long time but never would have guessed that this was the origin of a Holy Profession.
“Then a Holy Profession must be incredibly powerful, right?” Su Chen couldn’t help but ask.
“Of course…” Wan Chen nodded, ascending the steps with Su Chen. “Every Holy Profession is forged from a multitude of special Professions and tempered by the Morning Star Fire. This process creates core abilities that are not just powerful, but can be downright heaven-defying.”
