Their first foray into the ’wilderness’ was an eventful one, and it was given the added benefit of being the first time they met their other grandparents… which meant that things were really, really hectic for all kinds of reasons.

Mainly Lady Kio, who continued to just… be herself whenever she had the opportunity, but also because she had decided that the current litter of pups that were here wasn’t enough, so she brought along Lyra to help ’socialize’ the pups some more.

How five pups plus us four wasn’t enough for all of them to be properly socialized I didn’t know, but she insisted and brought Lyra along anyways, the larger, older girl looking around at the younger pups curiously before promptly waddling over to me.

Even when Nicoletta let out a ’fierce’ snarl she just ignored the smaller pup and instead tugged at the hem of my dress, staring up at me – or more specifically, up at my breasts – and continuing to tug at my dress before she was hoisted up.

The adorable smile she gave me before she reached over and started pressing her hands into my chest certainly warmed my heart, but I also found myself rather amused by how Nicoletta’s brain seemed to short circuit when Lyra was up here and she was down here.

She so desperately wanted to claw and bite her way up to the pup, but that would mean clawing and biting me, something that she had never done and would never do; the conflict in her eyes made me giggle, so I leaned down and scooped her up, rubbing my nose against hers as I solved her problem.

Beside me Anput was holding Samara, the pup seeking refuge from the eldest who was continuing to prove that she was a warrior through and through, though the moment she was left alone she tended to just… flop.

Right now she was ’sadly’ all on her lonesome, so instead of ’running’ about and trying to find trouble she just crawled over to a large rock and stared at it for a few moments before climbing on top of it, enjoying the warmth against her skin and promptly yawning and slumping down.

Zariah breathed a sigh of relief as she continued to huddle behind Jahi’s leg, while Astra had crawled over to Mother to stare up at her, though just like with Lyra I think the youngest pup was more fixated on Mother’s chest than she was on the woman herself.

“I’m telling you, Camilla is going to be just like Anput when she grows up! Look at how absolutely lazy she is already, not long after trying to gnaw little Nicoletta’s head off!”

Lady Kio was snickering to herself as she sat on the blanket sipping that fake wine, basking in the sun with the rest of us and enjoying herself as much as she could… while also looking everywhere but towards Mother.

“Ma, she isn’t lazy, and I wasn’t lazy either! She’s just resting and preparing for the next fight, that’s all.”

She cocked her brow at that and gave her daughter a knowing look, and when my mate turned towards me for support I also just raised a brow and shook my head, because trying to spin her laziness as something different was just… laughable.

Lowering myself onto one of the other blankets, I sighed softly and just watched in slight defeat as both Lyra and Nicoletta yanked my dress down, their appetites flaring already; seeing her sibling do that from afar, Samara cocked her head slightly before looking up quietly at her Mom, who rolled her eyes and offered her what she was looking for.

The ’disgusted’ groan that Lady Kio let out when she saw Mother preparing to feed Astra made us all smile wryly, and although her fur bristled slightly when Mother shot her a victorious grin she somehow managed to keep everything to herself.

Maybe because Zariah seemed to know that Jahi had no milk to provide, so although the Demoness was a good ’wall’ to hide behind the little futanari pup rushed over to Lady Kio for sustenance, causing the woman to blink a few times in surprise.

Mother just ignored the wide grin that sprouted across Lady Kio’s face, causing it to stiffen before she just grumbled something and looked down at Zariah, who was happy to be away from most of the other pups.

“Is this what being in a Pack would have been like..?”

“Far more chaotic than this, but yes. I’m sure you’ve already noticed how my idiotic brat was ready to go for another litter, so the amount of us here would be far greater… and the pups…”

Shrugging her shoulders and leaning back, Lady Kio stared at the clouds for a few moments before nodding when Mother chimed in to say “It would be far more hectic than this, but I must admit that having all of them around constantly meant that everyone was exhausted… especially them.”

“Pups have a lot of energy… especially whenever you start to get tired. They seem to reenergize immediately the moment they notice that you are winding down. It’s an odd bout of ’second wind’ that they get for a long time, so you had best get used to it.”

I took a long look at the six pups that were spread out on the grass, already somewhat accustomed to that second wind that they got since these last few days had been filled with surprise play sessions and a rotating schedule of who could be with them next.

The atmosphere here was peaceful and warm, and the longer these days went the more I began to feel my edge dulling, though where I had once craved constant sharpening and proper ’sustenance’ by repeatedly throwing myself into hunts, now I was just… calm.

Whether that was something that would last was unknown to me right now, but I was certain that my pups came before everything else that I wanted… and that helped keep my urges in check, much to my own dismay sometimes, as well as to the dismay of the Demoness that sat beside me, her hand lingering above my tail as she looked down at the feasting Lyra and Nicoletta.
