- Chapter 571 Having A Conversation With The President (2)

‘I have a folder with the crimes of everyone currently holding any form of governmental position, and those who have held any in the past hundred years. INCLUDING YOU.’
What Liam had said resounded in her head. Especially the last part. She looked at him for a moment, trying to find her words.
She wished she could call his bluff about having a folder that had such a long history of documented crimes of everyone that had ever held government office, but with everything she had seen so far, she knew that it was no bluff.
“I understand that you’re powerful and capable, but will you really do as you said? Throw them in the volcano?” She asked.
She didn’t doubt the documents, but the volcano threat, she was less certain about.
“Why not,” Liam asked flatly. “When they were giving orders, allowing evil to be perpetrated and embezzling money, did they think twice about it? Did you think twice about it?”
The President went quiet immediately, unable to think of what to say in response.
She wanted to defend her actions but she understood that Liam wouldn’t listen, as he looked like someone who had already made up his mind.
Her mind pushed itself to the last gear and she suddenly thought of something, and decided to use it.
“I understand how you feel about everything but you also have to understand that the individuals in the files have children and families. And taking them away will create a dysfunctional home. That’s something we have to prevent as much as possible,” she said.
“You politicians. You all just never give up,” Liam sighed softly in disappointment when he heard what she had to say.
“I guess I made a mistake from the beginning by allowing you to get comfortable, giving you the illusion that you had the right to negotiate with me on this matter,” he spoke in a low voice but the President could hear it clearly.
As he spoke, he let out a trace of his racial aura, enhanced by an equal trace of his cultivation level and focused it on the President.
Immediately, she felt like she had been submerged inside the deepest part of the ocean, as a heavy pressure came crashing down on her, nearly knocking her to the floor and pressing on her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
Her head lowered immediately, and no matter how hard she tried to raise it, she couldn’t. It was like a ton of weight was pressing down on it.
Unable to raise her head or even open her mouth to beg, she did her best to lift her eyes and when they came into contact with Liam’s, she was awestruck and terrified at the same time by what she saw.
What are you? She thought to herself.
She unconsciously lowered her eyes, like something inside of her was screaming at her to look away.
The pressure became even worse and she gripped her neck, as she started gasping for breath heavily.
Liam didn’t immediately retract his aura, letting her feel it for a few more seconds, as he observed her condition.
The pressure on her became worse and her eyes started tearing up in pain, as her lungs felt like they were drying up and tearing apart at the same time. Her heart was racing and slowing down at the same time, her eyes nearly crimson red like the vessels in them were about to pop.
Seeing that she was already at death’s door and would really die if he didn’t retract his aura, he decided to retract it.
She collapsed on the floor, coughing hard and gasping for breath, making hoarse sounds.
“Lucy, give her something to recover,” Liam said.
Lucy nodded and sent an instruction to a Nova, who forwarded it to one of the Synths working in the lab section.
Immediately, a recovery vial was synthesised and brought to the Base main office in about a minute.
The Synth walked through the office, to the President, who was still gasping and coughing heavily on the floor, and convulsing, like she would die any second, and it jabbed the needle into her shoulder and pressed the vial into her body.
Almost immediately, she went quiet and still, but her breathing was stable now.
The Synth stood up and lowered its head, giving a bow to Lucy, then lowered its head even more, giving a bow to Liam, before standing up and leaving the office.
Liam looked at the President still on the floor and smiled.
“Stop playing dead and get up immediately, unless you want to go through another round of that,” he said.
She immediately sprang up from the floor and sat down on the sofa, looking very nervous and unable to look Liam in the eyes again.
“I believe our conversation here is over. It’s time for you to return to your duties and to complete the tasks given to you,” Liam said.
The President nodded repeatedly, not daring to utter a word.
Liam smiled in satisfaction when he saw her reaction.
The next instant, she lifted up from the sofa and before she could understand what was happening, her surroundings narrowed to a point and before she knew it, she was standing in the Oval Office.
She looked around to confirm that she was really back and she was indeed back.
She collapsed on the chair, heaving a heavy sigh of relief, her fingers clenched into a fist and her body was shaking because of what she had experienced.
Everything that happened had felt like a bad dream to her, but the vividness of it, and the fact that her body was visibly shaking in terror, said otherwise.
She wondered what Liam’s identity was exactly. How he got those beautiful but terrifying eyes, his powers and everything.
The President realised that maybe, just maybe, they had been looking at everything about Nova Technologies and Liam Scott from the wrong angle.
She thought of his demand, how she was going to realise it, and if it would be possible in any way.
She immediately stopped thinking of how impossible the demand was, because of the fact that her life depended on it.
“Should I just resign from office? Won’t the next President inherit the demand instead?” She thought to herself and clenched her fist even more.
She felt like she was holding something in her hand. She opened her hand and saw a folded and squeezed piece of paper.
She opened it and saw that there was something written on the paper, and she read it.
“I forgot to add something. You can’t resign from office and you can’t die before the 72 hours deadline has elapsed. I will bring you back to life and things are going to much worse then. Your time starts now,” she read the content in a low voice, and her eyes caught the document folder on the desk.
Her body went cold immediately and she pressed the intercom call button.
“Get me the Secretary of Defence, the Director of the FBI and CIA, and the Chief Justice immediately!” She ordered with a solemn voice.
