- Six Hundred And Sixty-Four – Contains Status – Miyu 1, Michiru 1

Now that the lingering traces of the experience we’d shared through our lunar Chakras in the Fae manner had worn off, I was starting to feel rather ashamed of myself and achingly guilty, the soft mental snores of Tsurugi, who had exhausted herself cutting the too muddy adherence away from the Dance, an accompaniment to my mental anguish as I looked at Miyu, as we slowly walked towards where we’d left Honoka and Kozue-chan guarding the way here.
Seeing me watching her, Miyu smiled, and it was elegant and charming, and also somehow wicked. “Regretting it?” she asked. “Normally, it should be we girls who do. For men of the nobility, playing around with mistresses is rather normal. I rather hated the double standards. Hinata-chan does too. Her brother Hiroto-san has had a number of girlfriends at university, she says, and many casual flings. We… seldom go to university at all. It is very frowned upon. Hence why the education at Hanafubuki is so comprehensive, and so biased…”
Michiru nodded, comical in her oversized silk robes, which billowed out in the wintry mountain breeze. “Indeed. It also has a longer educational path than ordinary schools. Similarly to some rather rural schools, where students are not expected to travel or attend further education, there is an extra year of primary education, since it is desirable to have the daughters graduate at nineteen, so that they are ready to enter into their marriages arranged much earlier once they leave Hanafubuki. Not that some few do not marry while still attending, but they are much rarer.”
“You know…” I still felt bad, but seeing Michiru earnestly explaining, her expression serious, made me feel a little better. “…you sure do know a lot, Michiru. It’s a bit at odds with your… image? Proclivities?” I wasn’t sure exactly what I meant, but as she pouted, face flushing, Miyu cheerfully hooked her arm through mine.
“Michiru is one of the top achievers in our class.” She sounded proud, as she fondly eyed her. “If you take into account her physical fitness, which admittedly is not weighted highly at Hanafubuki, she might be number one. Though her decorum and etiquette leaves much to be desired, so that marks her down. Of course, for a bodyguard, such is seldom so important…” Her smile was teasing. “I left Michiru’s arms free, rather than walk with her, since she needs to be able to react to any dangers. You… have no such issues, do you Akio?”
I shook my head. “I’m confident if anything goes wrong here, I can protect you both.” The two girls blushed at that, and Michiru shook her head.
“I feel a sweet, burning pain in my heart, and also down below…” Michiru gasped out loudly. “Though I do wish I could protect you, I know it simply impossible for me to reach that level. Instead… I must grow strong enough to protect Miyu-sama, and… all those who also need my protection.”
“Michiru has grown from the shared experience. As have I. You… feel otherwise, do you not?” Miyu pointed out shrewdly, and I nodded.
“I just think… we went a bit too far. Well, you two, I’m all for your relationship, if you love each other, I want to support you, and I promised you I’d support the marriage you wanted, even if that’s Michiru, but…” I shifted uncomfortably. Once our spirits started to blend, it was like I seized them and couldn’t let go. “It was a shameful loss of self-control, and I was only glad I didn’t get so caught up in the passion that I went all the way. If so…”
“You are a very responsible man, are you not?” Miyu pointed out, and though she couldn’t hear it, Eri’s voice also echoed in my head, agreeing.
She’s right. I love that about you, and I’ve accepted it. I’m jealous, of course, sex outdoors on a mountain was something we shared on my birthday. It was magical. But I’ve told you, I already have my ideas of who are inevitable. Miyu-san has been suspicious ever since the start…
Really? I was pretty certain she was a misandrist lesbian, honestly. And with good reason. I’m more surprised that so many of the girls from Hanafubuki don’t loathe or fear men. It’s a rotten system.
And a system that has reached its end, thanks in part to you, Akio. Hinata, Motoko, Natsumi, and indeed Miyu-san, Sakura-san and the other daughters in Adamant and at the training school have all talked about it. The education daughters of nobility need in the future will look very different to today. They don’t want to lose the etiquette, the arts, music and dance, the history of it, but… the future they see is shining. And that’s down to you. So at least be a little proud.
Yes, but, what does that have to do with… let’s be honest, even if Fae bonding through lunar Chakras was as innocent as Shaeula suggested it could be, which it clearly isn’t, what we did was… it was spiritual sex. I…
Yes, it was. But… the lines are a bit blurry, honestly. We’re sharing everything right now, aren’t we? If I was to masturbate… hey, don’t think of it… Embarrassment flooded my thoughts as I pictured the image, inadvertently showing her. …you proved my point though. We share a deep, intimate blending of what it is to be each other. Almost our very existence could be described to be sex. Which is why you can never let any other men in to this, you understand? It’s different when Chiaki-chan and Chiasa-chan, or Haru-san, mediate… there’s that barrier, a filter… between us, whereas we have nothing. Lovers’ Link can simply be that deep and all-encompassing. That’s the truest expression of love, I guess.
Even so, I have no qualms with you, or any of the others, but Miyu and Michiru…
It’s as I said. I daresay they’ll keep it as a wonderful memory, for now. You really are slow, Akio. Aiko is right, you can be a big bro moonstone sometimes. But you’re my moonstone. Moonstones aren’t really that valuable, but to me… you’re more precious than any diamond, or I suppose we should say Etherite now. I wouldn’t trade you for even a violet one! Her thoughts were exasperated, yet amused.
Miyu-san has shown great interest in you since you took her as your Vassal. It’s obvious why now. She’s a woman who desires both power, to dominate, to be in control, and also a firm hand above her, to dominate and guide her. And since she’s clearly as perverted as Michiru-san, that’s…. inevitably going to have a sexual component. I wouldn’t say she’s a misandrist. She dislikes men, clearly, but… only because she sees the rot within those surrounding her. You… I know you better than anyone, Aki… you see a Vassal as both a fatherly role, and… almost a romantic one…
I nearly collapsed at that. Our mental exchange was so rapid Miyu hadn’t begun her next sentence, but she paused as I shuddered, dark eyes showing a little confusion, as I retorted desperately to Eri.
That’s not true! One hundred percent factually wrong! Otherwise I’d be romantic with Bunta-san, with Shuta-san… and even with Suzu and Haru… I’d never…
Obviously you’re misunderstanding me… Eri’s exasperation was plain. …and for once, I don’t think you’re doing it deliberately. It’s romantic because they’re women, but… Suzu doesn’t seek that from you, she seeks a brotherly connection, to replace her own that was a burden to her. So that’s what you are, and what you give her. As for Haru-san… please. You dote on her as much as you do any of us. It’s a relationship built on as much genuine affection as you have for anyone. If she asked you for a favour, any favour, wouldn’t you give it without a second thought?
I couldn’t deny that, so Eri continued.
For Kikuchi-san, you paid off his debts, and, knowing that he’s not cut out for a starring role, you respect that, and allow him to simply contribute the little things in life, while also nurturing Kikuchi Maiko-san, his daughter, helping her excel. As for Shiro’s nervous little colleague… you helped him find a job that freed him of fear and responsibility, and again, if either of the men had issues, you’d help them. But if, say for example… and no, don’t get your hopes up, this is simply an example, if you want to fool around with an idol, I have better suggestions…
There’s no way I’d do that, Eri!
I don’t know about that. Your words lack a little persuasiveness, Akio. But, my point is, if Suzu-san wanted a more intimate relationship, you would accept her, because… to you, any bond, any Connection, has obligations. Some would call it weak. I might call it irritating, but… it’s who you are, and… how you got on this path. No, I should say Path.
I pondered that. It was true. As my Vassal, and more than that… Miyu was tied to me by wearing the badge of Adamant. I hadn’t founded it, and certainly didn’t see it as my private harem, despite the jokes from Shaeula and Shiro, but I did own it and accept it now. She was also entrusted to me by her grandfather, and her future could be shaped by my hands. And what we control, we treasure. And what we treasure… we want to see shine with happiness.
“In fact, I would almost say too much so. But…” Miyu now continued her point, as my rapid thoughts slowed. “…in the end, you aided me through my dangerous Dance, and steered it to its best conclusion. Moreso, despite your obvious reluctance, you taught Michiru and I something so very precious. Perhaps yes, we could have fumbled through it on our own, or asked someone else to teach us, but… you feel responsible for us. You are responsible for us. Let me be frank…” We could see the silhouettes of Honoka and Kozue-chan in the distance now. “…you have nothing to be ashamed of. I thought I was eminently clear. I invited you to conquer me. Yes, I feel perhaps it was the lingering shame and arousal of the Dance remaining within me stoking my desires, but… it is not like we have not discussed it, have we Michiru?”
“No, Miyu-sama. We have often considered it. It would… satisfy our requirements. Though that is unfathomably selfish of us, and you should surely punish us…” She was drooling, and Miyu gently reached out and slapped the back of her head.
“Be calm, Michiru. And please do not leak over my jūnihitoe layers. They are Fujiwara heirlooms…”
“Uh…” I grimaced. “In that case, I think I might have soiled them a bit…”
“Undoubtedly.” Miyu agreed, embarrassing me by taking a sniff of her shoulder, where now I paid attention, I could see faint stains. “But Hori house shall be able to clean them without any lasting damage. They are artisans…”
“Oh Gods, no…” I grimaced. “Natsumi’s parents, knowing I did that to you…”
“You did nothing. You could certainly have done more. It is as I have said. Grandfather is no fool. He knows that the final outcome which makes sense is that I end up as yours. Though whether that is in a true relationship, or you simply providing Michiru and I cover for our liaison…” she nodded at her. “…and a child when I must have it, he is unsure. It gnaws at him, but not for the reasons you think.”
“One of the reasons I taught you was so you don’t need a man to impregnate you…” I insisted, and Miyu smiled beautifully. We were close enough to her cousin and Michiru’s sister now that they were looking at us with some puzzlement, especially at Michiru, considering how she was dressed.
“Yes, you taught us. You may feel rather ashamed you gave in to our requests, but… you did not do it for sexual pleasure, your own gratification. Else you would have devoured me, and Michiru as well. And we would have had no complaints. I am… pleased… that you found it thrilling. I for one, shall never forget this day. Nor forgive Ame-no-Uzume!” she flushed darkly. “Worse is to come, I fear. Though… I shall seek your advice and guidance beforehand this time, I promise. Regardless, taking me then and there would have been your right, and my honour.”
“Really?” I asked, surprised, and she nodded.
“Do you think I am an easy woman? Far from it. Michiru, contrary to how she has been behaving, is also an iron wall. She barely even speaks to other men outside her father and grandfather, and would never show her shameful hidden desires to them. The only thing I thank Ame-no-Uzume for is bringing us into your life. But do not mistake me…” she hurried up to finish, as she likely didn’t want her cousin to know what had gone on. “…this is not a romantic confession. I am not asking you to marry me yet. That would be presumptuous. But I would certainly not mind you delighting in my body whenever you please. Michiru certainly only seeks to be… a pet, doted on, loved, toyed with.”
Michiru was nodding frantically, and I winced. “That’s… a hard ask for me. My hands are already full, and… it would be like Hyacinth…”
“Again, I understand your grand intentions. Your kindness.” Miyu whispered, lowering her voice. “But love is compromise, no? We simply wished to reward you for your efforts, going so far for us. As women, we have our bodies and our hearts. They are precious, but to we daughters of nobility, a commodity that is bought and sold at the behest of others. I simply… wanted to sell it myself, give it to someone worthy of it. You still are. More than ever.” She leaned in, raising her free hand as if to brush something out of my hair, and her soft lips met my cheek as she hid that from the view of her cousin. “Do not feel sorrow or guilt. The others will certainly understand. Besides, you are the Emperor, are you not? Up until the War, it was a great honour to be the lover of the Emperor, and many women was a right none dared question.”
“Yes, but…” A damp impression of her lips was on my cheek. “…it’s not that, it’s the unfairness of it all. I’m the one who has everything…”
“…and yet gives us everything. Ask Eri-san. And I then daresay she will be immensely angry. You were not weak-willed before, but now this is unbecoming…” She then turned to her cousin. “Honoka, Kozue, I trust all was well?”
She’s right. It’s frustrating. It’s not fair. Of course we all know that. I knew it when I urged you to accept Shaeula, knew in my heart that you’d end up with Hinata and Motoko, when Hyacinth and Shiro… yeah, it’s not fair, but… life isn’t. None of us are going to go out and sleep with another guy to get revenge on you for what you did with them. Why would we want to? It’s like Miyu-san says, you’ve given us, and continue to give us, so much love and joy. Even if it’s human nature to want to monopolise, everyone knows that’s a foolish dream. You’re the Emperor we chose, Akio. Even Tan, a Goddess who should stand so far above us we look like ants to her. But we’ll talk this out. Briefly. This day has been quite the mess, and I don’t want you backsliding…
“Yes. Nobody came peeking.” Honoka agreed, before eyeing Michiru curiously. “What happened…?”
“The Dance was more… problematic… than expected.” Miyu declared honestly. “As for Michiru, her clothes became unusable, so to spare her blushes, she is using some of my robes.”
Kozue-chan glowered at us, before she bit her lip, and with surprising maturity, asked us politely if all was well.”
“Yeah. There were certainly complications, but Miyu’s Dance pleased the Goddess, and she and Michiru have benefitted. Though we’ll detail that later. I’m more concerned about the situation with the village.”
“Grandfather has surrendered peacefully, and the other Jōnin have also fell in line. It is… unlikely… that they will reveal all their darkest secrets…” she frowned. “…this is why I hate ninjas. If they were simply martial artists, not bound up in such worthless, stupid traditions, there would be no need for such pointless bravado.”
“It is their way, Kozue. And grandfather, he… knows what he is doing, I believe.” Michiru didn’t criticise her sister harshly, like usual, which surprised her. Seeing that, Miyu sneakily winked at me, and whispered faintly that Michiru was experiencing the afterglow of her experiences, and the hope of more in the future. That… I can’t promise. I know what you said, Eri, that I see Vassals as those I have to make happy. That’s… no lie. But every time I dedicate effort to someone else, I rob you and the others of slivers of your own joy…
Okay, now you’re making me actively unhappy. But this is so very you, so I’ll bite my tongue, until you get here, then I can bite you!
Sorry… I should know better…
“Much as you malign father’s choices, there are reasons he has changed the old ways. And while honoured grandfather believes he knows Akio-sama from the gathered intelligence… he does not understand his great restraint and patience fully. Nor his boundless compassion. Yet he is staking his all on it.” Her brown eyes sparkled. “There could have been other ways, yet… their own prejudices blinded them to it. But… this way will suffice, I think. Grandfather is nothing if not a master of human nature, and predicting what will happen if he pokes at certain sore spots. But it matters little now…”
I missed her more informal speech during the sordid acts we’d shared a little now, and as if sensing that thought, Michiru’s cheeks reddened slightly. “…I know more deeply that ever, have tasted it…” Her legs twitched under the silk, and I had the feeling she was embarrassing herself on purpose, getting a thrill out of the shame. “…that which they consider necessary, Akio-sama considers abhorrent and crimes. Why withhold joy, when you can give it freely?”
The trouble is, it’s not that simple, is it? Sometimes giving happiness to one takes it from another. I certainly wouldn’t be overjoyed if Eri or Shiro went and slept with Yasu-kun, just because he was sad when he broke up with Karen-chan. That’s just an example, I’m not jinxing you, Yasu-kun, keep fighting and cling to Karen-chan for all you’re worth, she’s a keeper!
“It is all so… needlessly stupid. I hope… grandfather was not mistaken.” Kozue-chan agreed, her expression tired, as she glanced at me, her expression pensive, before she shook her head, as if to clear some intrusive thoughts. “Now we should return.”
“Go on ahead.” Miyu asked them. “And please tell Koga-san to make arrangements for our departure once the situation here is dealt with.”
Honoka and Kozue-chan both nodded, and as they hurried off, Miyu explained. “I daresay Arisugawa-san will be overworked, as all the ninjas here will need to be transported to another location for interrogation and processing. Better Michiru’s father takes her ire than you.” She giggled. “For you shall be facing enough. Come…”
We walked through the village, which indeed was now rather deserted. The Pilgrimage had come to a conclusion here, we were somewhat behind the others, who had surely moved on to fresh shrines and temples elsewhere, but… as we entered the shrine to Marishiten, Haru, Eri, Hinata and Yukiko were waiting for us, sitting on a number of chairs, while there were three placed in front of them, almost like defendants in a trial. I couldn’t meet any of their eyes, especially not Haru’s, but the one Miyu couldn’t face was Yukiko. Yeah, that’s going to be a rough conversation.
Sorry, Haru. I tried my best. I… didn’t cross the line, but… you might still think I’m a sucker and a lecher.
Of course I know you’re a lecher, Akio. Her thoughts came to me, and I was surprised, as I expected that she’d be upset or even angry with me, and would ignore me for now. Do you think I’m an idiot? I don’t exactly think I can praise your restraint as highly as you’d like, but… it was consensual, so it’s not for me to disdain you. Though… you need to understand that just because something is asked of you, you don’t have to do it. I’ve been leaving things be, because you need the lesson. Here, I can give you at best a sixty. It’s a scraped pass, but you’ll never make Tokyo U with grades like that!
I’m not a smart girl like you, Haru. I wouldn’t dare shoot for the stars… I was relieved she was talking to me. Honestly, I’d give myself a forty, maybe a thirty-five. I just… yes, Eri’s right, I do feel responsible for Miyu’s and thus by extension Michiru’s happiness. But I don’t have the right to give of myself freely, I suppose. Because that’s trading away the goodwill of the others…
Yes, you do get it. But… they get it too. It’s not quite as clearcut as you’re making it sound. But we’ll talk it out. Just… this was your mock exam. Don’t screw up on the real one, Akio, or it won’t just be me who ignores you afterwards.
So… it wasn’t Miyu you were warning me about?
No comment. I knew of her woes regarding the shameful Dance, and honestly… I’m happy she trusted you enough to be beside her. And that you helped her. I can read your thoughts, Akio. They’re… intense, but… honest. They don’t disgust me. You were turned on, you really wanted to indulge, to make them yours, but you knew that wouldn’t be right, not now, and that they were caught up in the moment, and… held back. Hence why you got a pass. A bare pass, because of the… accident. Though that’s mostly biological, but you could have done better.
Yeah… I had no answer to that.
“Without Shaeula we can’t be sure that Haru’s Telepathy will work, and we also want to pick up the twins as an amplifier.” Eri pointed out. “So, for now… we can resolve this little issue.”
“Yes, take a seat, Akio. You’re surely very exhausted, after your little mission.” Hinata agreed. “You too, Marquise Miyu, Heart Michiru!”
“Yes, High Commander!” Miyu gave her an Adamant salute, Michiru doing likewise a heartbeat later, and we all sat down, Miyu finally relinquishing my arm.
“So, we’ve heard most of it from Eri.” Hinata steepled her fingers. “Miyu, report to me what occurred, if you would.”
“Of course. I have no secrets. Though first…” Miyu got down on her knees then went into a full dogeza bow, touching the floor. Ordinarily Michiru would have scolded us and her for lowering herself, but through our thick Lovers’ Link, I could feel both her genuine contrition, and also… yeah, she’s aroused at the thought of being humiliated under my watch. My fists are itching…
Miyu explained, with some interjection from Michiru, about the Dance and its mechanics, and the fact that Yukiko was the natural choice for the role of Amaterasu. “…so forgive my selfishness, Yukiko-sama. I… did not consider options carefully, as Akio pointed out to me. Michiru would not be overlooked.”
“Akio?” Hinata hummed a little at that and smiled, a trace proudly, though there was a teasing malice in her eyes too. “Yes, you’ve made a number of mistakes, haven’t you, Marquise Miyu? Let me ask you a question… if it was simply about raw power, why not invite the whole village and Pilgrimage to watch? Better still, we could have found you a cave, or built one, upon Mount Atago, and had all of Kyoto come to observe your reenactment. You might be as strong as Akio with that shame.”
I knew Hinata was just trying to make us think, as there was no way we could ruin the reputation of one of Fujiwara-san’s granddaughters that way, it would cause chaos within the nobility, but Miyu considered it carefully.
“If I may, High Commander, you surely jest.” As I expected her to make those points, I felt amusement through Lovers’ Link. “As strong as Akio? If you filmed it on national television, and built a mountain and cave in the centre of Tokyo and all fourteen million residents hooted and jeered as I disgraced myself… I still would not be able to match him. And you know it.”
“A cool response. I would have thought you more embarrassed.” Hinata mused. “But didn’t you want more power, for yourself, and for Michiru?”
“I did. And also for Akio.” she insisted. “Now, it is impertinent, but let me ask you a question in turn. This goes to you as well, Eri-sama, Yukiko-sama…” She was being extremely formal now. “…the three of you also desire power. But if a God descended now, and offered you a great boon if you would but sleep with him, offer him your body…”
“I’d try and castrate him…” Eri growled, onyx eyes narrowing. “…this is all so very familiar. I remember this from when Shaeula and I were trying to reconcile our mutual love for Akio. Love for gain is simply prostitution. I won’t take power that way. With one exception. If it’s the only way to save Akio’s life. Of course, once I’d saved him I’d kill myself.”
I gazed at her, pain in my heart, knowing she meant it. “You know I’d forgive you, I’d rather you lived…”
“It’s not always about you.” Eri shook her head. “We’ve our own hearts and minds. I’d feel just awful knowing you’d suffer without me, but… at least you wouldn’t be lonely, since you have everyone else. I simply can’t accept any other man but you, Akio. But I would die for you.”
“That’s… heavy stuff.” Yukiko pursed her lips. “I… don’t like the idea either. But I see your point, Miyu-san…”
“I get it.” Hinata agreed. “I probably understand Miyu better than anyone. You’re saying that Akio was an acceptable shame to bear, no… that it wasn’t actually shameful. Akio…” Hinata shook her head, smiling at me ruefully. “…I know what you’ve promised Miyu in the past, and you hate breaking your word, but please stop giving out black cheques to people. ‘I’ll see that you’re happy…’, ‘I’ll help you find love or the husband that you want’, ‘Ask me anything…’ it’s very sweet and delightful when you do it for us…” Everyone nodded, even Haru. “…but it’s not wise. Still, we know it’s a part of you to be generous, caring, and to prioritise the happiness of those around you. Yet…”
They all exchanged glances, and Hinata grinned triumphantly. “…this was actually good timing. As for me, I’m not a commodity to be bought and sold. Akio gets no refunds on me.” She winked playfully. “Miyu… I’ve been watching you. And I understand.”
“Yes. In truth, Michiru and I, we wished Akio to be there. I am not so… crass… as to claim our affection is as deep a love as you all obviously feel for him, nor am I going to demand a place equal to you all. Not now.” She raised her head, still kneeing, while Michiru’s gaze was pleading for the girls to forgive Miyu. When really it’s me they should be angry with…
“…but I am comfortable in stating that Akio’s hand lies warm on my head. It is firm…” she chuckled self-deprecatingly. “…and I daresay it shall weigh heavier on me now, since my Dances will have grown immensely. I see much effort in my future. But it is also full of tender affection. And I felt… over time… that perhaps he was a man I could entrust my heart to, and that he would understand that I also deeply love Michiru. After all, does he not love all of you?”
“It makes sense, when you put it like that.” Eri agreed. “And Haru-san has validated that you hold no ill intentions. But honestly, I’m surprised. Your idea of love is… very sexual.” Eri was blushing faintly. “I’m sorry you had to check that, Haru-san.”
“It’s fine. My Resilience is high enough that my heart doesn’t race in panic anymore. Or is that because I’m dead and so don’t have a heartbeat?” she laughed brightly. “We understand. It is mostly Akio’s fault. He treasures you, and a Vassal bond matters to him. Even so, he did try and talk you out of the experience, and held back. If not admirably, at least passably.”
“Before we criticise, Akio, can you show us just what the gains were? If Miyu-san was willing to consummate a relationship with you, despite knowing what that means to her… then I hope it was worth it. At least… the gains weren’t the main point of it all, so I can tolerate and forgive it.” Eri sighed, and Miyu thanked her, touched, even as I nodded.
“Yeah, it was. And Yukiko, don’t worry, you’re doing great even without the boost. I’ll…”
“Hush now.” She cut me off, laughing. She tugged on her brown braid a little restlessly, as if wishing it was something else. “Don’t make it worse. I know. I’m proud I managed to improve my Sun Of Amaterasu, and… I’m considering the long game. After all… we’ll be together forever.”
Nodding once more, I brought up the stats for Miyu first.

“Dances without shame, huh?” Eri exchanged a knowing glance with the kneeling Miyu, before smirking. “Don’t worry, Miyu-san. Despite everything that’s happened here today, I support your revenge. And I’ll help you get it. So will Akio. After all, he promised.”
I nodded slowly, understanding their points. I did promise too easily, but… as a person I didn’t regret it. As a ruler though, and a boyfriend to multiple girls… I need to treat my affection with rather more weight. I see that now. I learned to accept others that love me, now… I need to learn where to draw the line.
“Lovers’ Link at Rank four…” Hinata chuckled. “While that in itself doesn’t mean much, after all, Aiko-chan had such…”
“I don’t think she’s a wise comparison.” Eri snorted, cat ears and tail appearing suddenly in a pop of etheric sparks, tail lashing to show her mood. “But you’re right. It’s difficult, yet not impossible, to get it to such lengths via simple affection and respect. Not impossible. But then, they’ve picked up Fae-Bonded too…”
“From an Adamant perspective, it’s genuinely hard to fault you, Miyu, Michiru.” Hinata pointed out. “And my own goals… well, Michiru, sorry to say, you’re a low priority, but securing Miyu’s true affections would be rather helpful. Shiro would be delighted, bragging that ‘my Aki’s got another of the most worthy women of Japan in his bed, and yet he still thinks I’m the best…’” Hinata did a passable impression of her. “But there’s obviously more to it than that.”
“Can I just check her old Dances…” I asked, unbearably curious, and Hinata giggled.
“Oh yes, I want to know too. If it’s more helpful to the Territory, then Miyu can work off her penance in helping with the construction, though likely we’ll be rush-building for a while rather than using the queues so… you might escape for a short time. Oh, but do you know why you need a punishment?”
“Because I did not consult with you all, regarding my intentions, or the Dance and the potential it offered?” she asked, and Yukiko nodded.
“You are clever. Look…” She sighed, clasping her fingers together, and I felt, especially with her red-framed fashion glasses and braid, that she seemed like a sexy schoolteacher about to lecture us. Haru rolled her eyes at me, miming cutting her throat, and I got the message. Yes, I’ll be good. After earlier this isn’t the time to get horny. I’m zen, I’m calm, I’m the Buddha, walking on by…
I don’t think you’ll qualify as a Buddha any time soon, Akio. Much to the relief of the girls here. Honestly… I do applaud your restraint. The experience has fired you up. If you want me to leave… Haru suggested impishly.
Oh God no, please. I deserve to be uncomfortable. Consider it a small bit of my penance.
No, they don’t want you to suffer, just to learn and also pass the next test, and the one after that. You’re a slow learner, Akio, but you do eventually get it.
I nodded, as Yukiko finished her lecture. “…you were selfish, but… you were raised to be a queen, not in the sense of my family, but in that… you were to be respected, and knew it. But you also had no freedom to choose how your life played out. It’s sad, and I sympathise. Ironically, the Imperial Family doesn’t seem as stifling as the nobility nowadays. So it’s only natural to seize an opportunity. But you have Lovers’ Link, Pledged Vassal, Fae-Bonded… you joined Adamant willingly, without Hinata’s pressure…”
“Hey, I only pressured a few girls, for their own good…” Hinata protested, and Yukiko ignored her.
“…and… the situation here was a little… intense. You were wrapped up in the whims of Ame-no-Uzume, and the situation made you a little… anxious and lustful. So you were swept up into it…”
“No. I make no excuses.” Miyu insisted. I was concerned by her lying in dogeza, but in truth her stats meant it was merely a figurative attempt at apology, rather than physically painful. “Yes, I was… bolder than perhaps I might have been, but… I did nothing, offered nothing, that I would, even now say, was against my will.” Michiru cried out her agreement, though we all ignored her, which made her blush and squirm, and my gaze only intensified that. Yeah, there’s no question she wasn’t influenced by the Dance… she’s just like that.
“…in that case, it’s worse.” Yukiko sighed. “This future Dance… talk it through with everyone. As for the method of bonding through your lunar Chakras… Akio should have known better, but Shaeula is partially to blame too…”
“She’s too prideful to admit she might have been mistaken. It’s like with us humans, isn’t it?” Eri sighed, ears flickering. “Two friends might have sex, even though they aren’t in a relationship. Just… friends with benefits, as Shiro calls it. I don’t get it, I’d only want to have sex with those I love, just Akio, but people do it. Just like they have sex with strangers after a drunken night out. So… just as sex isn’t purely with those you love, it’s likely that she misunderstood. But it’s definitely sexual.”
“I can hardly deny it. While my body is intact, my heart and I suppose my spirit, have been taken.” Miyu conceded. “I believe that Akio, Michiru and I have all effectively had intercourse.”
“You have. Though there’s a barest distinction.” Eri grumbled. “Anyway, we were checking the Dances?”
“Oh yeah…”
Dance Of The Returning Dawn will radiate out a shining golden light of Dawn while the wielder dances. Allies touched by the Dawn will find their Chakra Networks will work at increased efficiency which continuously strengthens while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. All allies that the Dawn touches will be blessed with increasing strength while the Dance lasts andfor a brief time afterwards. Enemies touched by the Dawn will take continuously increasing Light Element damage while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. The efficiently of Territory construction touched by the Dawn will continually increase while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. This Skill has been enhanced by the Ama-no-Iwato Kagura, and thus the base effect of the Dance is strengthened, and the effects ramp up faster, and persist for a short time when the Dance ceases. Light Elemental Skills are also enhanced significantly.
Dance Of The Departing Dusk. This Skill will radiate out a shroud of deep blue Dusk while the wielder dances, and for a brief time afterwards. Enemies touched by the Dusk will find their abilities suppressed, this suppression continuously strengthens while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. All allies touched by the Dusk will find their resistance to Elemental damage continuously increasing while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. Enemies touched by the Dusk will take continuously increasing Darkness Element damage while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. Enemy Territory touched by the Dusk will be slightly suppressed, this effect continually increasing while the Dance lasts, and for a brief time afterwards. This Skill has been enhanced by the Ama-no-Iwato Kagura, and thus the base effect of the Dance is strengthened, and the effects ramp up faster, and persist for a short time when the Dance ceases. Darkness Elemental Skills are also enhanced significantly.
“Yes, they’ve grown a lot more potent.” I observed, and Miyu turned her head to smile at me. Thinking about it, shouldn’t I really be on the floor with them? As I thought that, Haru rolled her eyes at me, so I shelved that notion. I forgot, Eri hates it when I apologise for things like that. Though… yeah, I do think I did wrong. Perhaps I should have stopped them kissing me. Other than that, it was the effects of the Fae sensory link, our blended spirits…
“Have no fear, I will Dance for you as much as you desire. I can even replicate the Ama-no-Iwato Kagura if you wish it, Akio, though it will have no mystical significance…”
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Miyu. We’ll discuss that later.” Hinata interjected. “But we’ll certainly work you hard. With your greater advantages now, and the Fortitude from Lovers’ Link there’s no excuse for breaks.”
Miyu let out a dry laugh at that, and as Michiru commiserated with her, I checked her remaining details.
Battle Dancer is a Class gained by those who use Skills involving the art of dancing in both offensive and defensive combat. Dance-related Skills are slightly strengthened, and Precision and Alacrity, as well as Charm, increase. It becomes slightly easier to learn Combat Skills.
“Miyu has the Divine Medium Skill, like Shiro’s but it seems to be beyond her use, since it was Ame-no-Uzume who forcibly activated a limited kind of Divine Possession during the Dance… anyway… the other Class is interesting…”
Blessed Kagura is a Class granted to those who have Dance-related Skills and Classes from the Eight Million Invitations Pantheon, and have also gathered a great deal of suitable Adherence of a nature related to the Pantheon and the Arts of Shrine Maidens, Music and Dance. Dance-related Skills are moderately strengthened, the ability to manipulate Aether and Adherence is moderately strengthened, and Aether, Charm, Majesty and League increase.
Once I’d read it out, Hinata and I exchanged knowing glances, before she spoke, knowing what I was thinking. “Yes, Miyu, you’ll have to teach the members of Adamant how do battle dance…” She grinned cheerily. “And maybe we can find out through one of your other Dances how to get them the Adherence, or at least Tsukiko and Yukiko. Blessed Kagura is a Class too good for them to pass up on.”
“If I can help, I will.” Miyu agreed. “You simply have to ask, High Commander.”
“How admirable. Though I suspect you’d like me to get Akio to ask you, wouldn’t you?”
Miyu didn’t deny it, her face reddening, and Eri changed the subject. “I think Michiru-san is about to explode if we don’t assess her. Akio, if you would?”
I nodded, as indeed Michiru, in her dogeza, had a face red as a tomato and was breathing fast. “Yes, she likes being the centre of attention, doesn’t she?”
“I do! Yours anyway, master!” she cried, completely without shame, and Eri pursed her lips.
“At least she’s earnest and honest. I’d rather have ten honest idiots with us than one sly, untrustworthy bitch.”
Huh? I picked up on that, but Haru’s gaze warned me to silence, so instead I just analysed Michiru.

“You got the Throne to Rank two I see…” I observed, and Miyu was apologetic.
“I know it is a waste, when you are so desperate for aether, but before, Lovers’ Link did not offer enough Levels for my peace of mind, though to be honest… I hold Michiru back. If she did not have to guard me and my Territory, she could have reached the maximum.”
“It is not your fault, Miyu-sama! I simply slacked off…” she protested, and Eri once more spoke up.
“Don’t worry. As soon as the Territory expansion occurs and we have a hundred kilometres to expand in each direction, you’ll soon advance. In fact… Level eighty-three, huh? Don’t you want to apologise to us…?”
“I am not ashamed. Akio-sama and Miyu-sama are the masters I will serve, body and mind, for eternity!” Michiru cried, before moderating her tone. “But I am sorry. I should have asked your permission and blessings! If you command it, I shall reach Level eighty-three without stopping for rest, whether my body breaks or not!”
“Yes. You should have asked.” Eri agreed. “But we’ve been suspicious of you pair for a while, so it wasn’t exactly unexpected. Still, there will be consequences. But… I’m seeing a few interesting things I’ve not seen before…”
I nodded. “Go easy on her. Level fifty might be a fair starting point.” At Eri’s glower, I shrugged. “Okay, Throwing Technique is fairly straightforward, it helps with needles, thrown knives, shuriken and the like. But Improvised Weapons Technique…”
Improvised Weapons Technique is a measure of the ability of a warrior to utilise seemingly harmless or mundane items as a weapon, with deadly effect.
“I see. So…” Haru glanced at Michiru, who explained.
“Chopsticks are good. Pencils work as well. A shoe can be quite lethal if it strikes the temples or another weak spot. Tights can be an effective garotte, socks can be filled with stones to make a cosh, and a bra…”
“Yes, I get it.” Haru cut her off, as she was getting disturbingly eager to explain.
Rogue Taijutsu is a corrupted version of Taijutsu, a systemised Combat Style. While this has not yet become a Style, it is a foundation for one, even if it implements unorthodox and improvised elements. By using suitable Elemental energies, the body can be enhanced, and attacks strengthened.
Rogue Ninjutsu was the same, though it was supposed to be more heavily focussed on elemental attacks, and was also part of an as-yet-unknown Ninja Combat Style.
Likewise…
Rogue Ninja is a Class given to those who have a grounding in Ninja Arts and Skills to a rigorous degree, yet have adulterated and changed the Arts. Yet a Ninja is still a Ninja, even if their methods differ, so long as their mindset is firm. Might and Alacrity increase, as does Precision, and it becomes slightly easier to learn Combat-related Skills, and Elemental affinity to Earth, Wind, Flame and Water increases slightly.
“I must tell honoured father…” For some reason, Michiru was tearing up. “…a Ninja is still a Ninja… that validates his teachings!”
I see. Thanks Yggdrasil. You can be kind sometimes, when you’re not naming things oddly…
Seeing Michiru crying, her restless, lewd mood forgotten, Eri smiled ruefully. “How frustrating. Well, finish quickly Akio, as we need to… pass judgement and come to a conclusion here.”
There was only one thing left, other than a favour I’d need to ask of Yukiko, though I supposed I could ask my sister or Ren-kun. No, Yukiko would be the best placed to meet the need, though… I can understand if she’s a little annoyed with me after I ask…
Dance Of Defending The Dawn, Doom By The Dusk is a Skill granted as part of the ritual Dance Ama-no-Iwato Kagura, as well as the Throne Of Heroes Connection between the wielder and her master, though it could not have bloomed as it has without intervention from the Twister Of Connection’s Strands, Loom That Weaves Bonds, Blade That Severs Misfortune. For he Twisted the Strands of disparate Connections into one, and Wove them upon the Loom of his affection, and then used his will as a Blade to Sever what is unneeded.
While the user of this Skill is moving rhythmically, be this a dance or any sort of similar, structured, elegant movement, such as some Combat Arts, while defending anyone she has a Connection or Bond with, all of her Material Statistics will be greatly enhanced at the cost of a continuous surge of Aether. In addition, her Combat Skills will temporarily increase in Rank, making her a better, fiercer warrior… or rather, a Ninja, of the Rogue persuasion.
By expending a great deal of Aether, a target threatening anyone she wishes to protect can be struck by a mental wave of her focussed will, disorientating them and reducing their ability to fight and move properly. This effect can be enhanced by the expenditure of suitable Adherence or Elemental energies. Attacks while defending someone so Bonded or Connected against the Doomed target will show a greater effect, inflicting more serious injuries. This effect is enhanced if it is the Bondweaver who helped forge this she is protecting.
Very funny. Getting back at me for my earlier thought, are you?
“That’s a good Skill for protecting Miyu.” I observed. “Though it has a bit of a tricky activation condition, and… you’re lacking elements. Yukiko… I need a favour.”
“I’ll consider it.” Her reply wasn’t cold, but I could tell she was a bit upset, understandable considering the events of the day, and what Furuihonō had said to her.
“Michiru’s Chakra network is overactive due to the energies from the Dance. Can you… help her learn the flame and light variants of Sunlight? I know it’s unfair, considering she took what should probably have been yours…”
“No, it’s not. It was never mine. Miyu-san had no obligation. But I still wish she had talked to us…” Yukiko sighed, and Miyu mashed her head into the ground, as did Michiru. “…despite everything, we’re friends, even if we’ve not spent much time together. And… I wouldn’t refuse you, Akio. Even though I admit to feeling rather irked. You haven’t even made a move on me… I know why, but still… I have my pride, you know. And… maybe…”
“Nope!” I didn’t even need Haru’s mental warning to know what Yukiko was thinking. “It’s utterly not that I don’t find you attractive. Far from it, you’re adorable. It’s just, like Ellie, there are political issues. But if you tell me you don’t care, then any time…”
“I see.” she sighed. “In that case… Eri, I’m okay. You?”
“Helping Michiru-san or not was never the question. Of course we’ll help.” Her ears waved with annoyance. “Oh, you pair, stop grovelling. It makes my teeth itch.”
Miyu elegantly stood, dusted off her silks, and Michiru jumped up, bowing gratefully. As they sat beside me, Hinata asked the question I had been waiting for. “Akio, how do you feel about Miyu and Michiru?”
“Honestly… I can’t say it’s love, but… I feel very close to them right now. And… though the way we met didn’t leave a good impression, especially with Michiru…” The girl in question groaned, flushing, remembering attacking Hinata with poisoned needles. “…since then Miyu has blossomed. And she’s certainly beautiful…”
“Am I not?” Michiru was aggrieved, though the snub had clearly… yeah, she’s beyond saving. Honestly, if someone doesn’t take care of her, she’ll just be a landmine for life…
“You’re… cute enough, Michiru, but Miyu… she’s refined and elegant, the sort of girl guys dream of… even so, I sort of regret things happened the way they did. And I very much feel like it was mostly my fault.”
“Oh, it is.” Eri agreed. “But I see where you were coming from. You wanted the two of them to be happy, so you taught them what you thought they needed, answered their requests. Again, you can’t answer everyone’s, but…” She glanced at Hinata, who nodded.
“Miyu isn’t just anyone. She’s a precious Vassal, and honestly… she’s someone I’ve always looked up to.” Michiru was gazing at her with puppy-dog eyes, so Hinata gave in with a chuckle. “And you’re fun too, Michiru. Besides, it seems you come as a set. But of course…” she eyed Miyu. “…that all depends on what Miyu really wants. Will you shed the uniform and retire out with Michiru? Even if you do, you’re still Akio’s Vassal.” she warned. “And we’ll work you hard just the same.”
“No.” Miyu shook her head. “I wish to remain in Adamant. I shall not relinquish Michiru, I ask for that selfishness. As for… what I expect… that is a troubling question. I too do not say I love him deeply, but… my affection is greater than I have felt for anyone but Michiru, certainly, and… my nature… calls out to him. Yet…” She stood and bowed to the three of them, before pausing for a moment, then including Haru, who have a wry smile.
“…it is sheer insolence, what I have done. I ask you not to blame Akio. He resisted. As best he could. With Ame-no-Uzume’s presence hanging heavy upon me, I wanted him to take me, so very badly. And also to ravish Michiru, to mess her up, satisfy her lusts as only a man could. Now… it has faded somewhat, yet…” She met my gaze boldly. “My appetites have diminished, but… if I seek a man, it shall only be you, Akio.”
“If, huh?” Eri’s tail lashed. “That’s how it is?”
“You mistake me.” Miyu stared back boldly. “I am not… pushing him away… how could I? I feel very close to him, as close as I do to Michiru, and a burning affection and desire. It is simply… I wish to atone, and to be worthy. And to win you all over. What happened was a mistake, but thanks to Akio, and his resistance… for be fair to him, do you think many men could have resisted our willing charms? Knowing that even if you were upset, he would be forgiven? The temptation…”
“It’s true.” Haru chuckled. “I’m not entirely letting off Akio, he should have known the Fae way of bonding, even if it wasn’t sexual, would be too much for you, and you didn’t need to know it now…” Haru snorted, now turning her attention to me. “A part of you surely knew that they don’t need a child any time soon, so… you were tempted. But… at least you’re giving me hope…”
“He’d better… or else…” Hinata muttered something inaudible even to my ears, but, even though I thought she was joking it was quite chilling. “…send… back to… in a box…”
“We’ll see.” Eri agreed, and Yukiko nodded.
“…regardless.” Miyu finished solemnly. “I… wish to continue to serve, to grow, and… be better. Perhaps we should consider this never happened, and… start afresh?”
“Fine. It was a small mistake.” Eri agreed. “But… you need to do things properly in future, all right?”
“I shall strive to meet everyone’s expectations, and then, perhaps I shall call on Akio again.” She smiled at me. “Though, in good conscience, Michiru and I also made promises, and I have no wish to see us as liars any more than we would Akio. If you wish us to Dance for you again, you have but to ask.” Her cheeks were rosy red, and Michiru’s gaze was pleading.
Yeah, that’s a trap if ever I saw one. Forget it happened, huh? Treat it as a fever dream? I don’t know, it doesn’t sit right with me…
We know neither you nor they can forget it. Eri’s thoughts sounded. But for now… best clear away the complications. Their feelings are clumsy and fresh, yours are muddled and riddled with guilt and shame… ours are complicated too. I’m not angry, not really, and my jealousy is manageable. Probably because I expected it, sooner or later. I’m not Shiro, but I do share the belief that every woman wants you. And that I’m still your number one. No, if you built a relationship with the two of them off this, it would be a disaster, and wouldn’t go well…
I think… you’re right.
I know I’m right. Look at the positives, you achieved your goal, they can be happy together. If they decide they need more, need you… let them win you honestly, with our approval. Who knows, their affection may pass as they indulge with each other.
I wasn’t so sure, knowing their proclivities and masochistic streak, but… Maybe so. And the worst case… isn’t so terrible, I suppose.
Don’t be shameless, Akio. Miyu is a true beauty, the equal of me, and Michiru… she’s more the cute sort without her scarf, a petite little terror, but she’s objectively very attractive. You loved it…
I did, but… I’d love it more if it was play with you, or Hinata… or one day, with Yukiko…
As we came to a conclusion, Miyu nodded. “I shall return to the ranks of Adamant, and… put my new talents to use. Yukiko-sama…” she bent her neck, bowing. “…please forgive me once again, and teach Michiru, and help her truly blossom. Together, we will prove our worth.”
“It’s fine. I understand a bit better now. And much as that annoying Jōnin said, I’ve no right to complain about who Akio brings in, as… I fell for him despite knowing I shouldn’t. You… might be the same?”
They exchanged knowing smiles, and, as the situation was resolved, in burst Takeshi-san, Michiru’s father. “Oh, you’re all here. Arisugawa-sama is ready for you all. She’s taken away my foolish old man and the others… you know, don’t trust him, Akio-dono…” He snorted sourly. “…my old man’s a crafty, tricky bastard. When you think you’ve got him figured out and peeled back his schemes, that’s when he traps you. There’s a scheme behind the scheme and even behind that. Self-sacrifice… sure, they’d do it if there is no other way, but…” He trailed off, eyeing Michiru. “What happened to your clothes? And…” His nose must have picked up the familiar, unpleasant scent of some of the drying stains, as he gasped, horrified. “Michiru, did you…”
She put on a proud expression, puffing out her modest chest under the silks, and was clearly about to declare something inappropriate, which was a problem, but… Ah yes, there you are Takeshi-san. Interesting comment about your father, I too think there’s something a little deeper, probably not malicious, but… for now…
“Clench your chest.” I grated, and as he barely paused mid-tirade, I wound back my fist. “This is for showing Michiru all that lewd garbage and warping her mind into this, you bastard!” I then sank my fist into his guts, hard enough to knock the wind out of him and send him flying out the door. As everyone gaped at me, I grinned, patting Michiru on the head gently.
“Don’t worry, I pulled the punch and left aether in his body to work Ether Healing. He’ll certainly feel it for a day or two, but… it’s the least he deserves. Sorry Michiru. That you had to learn about guys from his warped sensibilities…”
“Thank… you?” she blinked uncertainly, though Miyu nodded, as if she understood, which I was sure she did.
All right then, let’s go grab the big idiot, I’ll slap him back to consciousness, and then we’d best continue the Pilgrimage, hopefully with no more… unexpected troubles…
