Chapter 225: Chapter 225: The Way To Kill A Phoenix, Soul Attacks
Celeste’s expression darkened slightly the moment she saw the [Blood Heart Blessing] displayed on her weapon.
The playful excitement she had just moments ago fading into something much more serious as she stared at the panel in silence.
“A soul attack is something that can pierce through immortality,” Leon explained calmly, his tone steady as he looked toward Emilia, who clearly didn’t understand what they were reacting to.
“Huh?” Emilia blinked, her confusion obvious as she looked between the two of them.
“For example,” Celeste spoke this time, her voice quieter than usual, lacking its usual carefree tone, “a phoenix-race individual cannot be killed by normal means, no matter how much damage they take, because they will simply revive again and again after some time, but if someone manages to damage their very soul instead of just their body… that is how they are killed permanently.”
Leon nodded slightly, confirming her explanation without adding anything unnecessary, “It’s the only way to kill people like Celeste.”
The weight behind those words lingered in the room.
Celeste didn’t say anything after that. She didn’t need to. Because she knew exactly how real that danger was.
Soul attacks weren’t just a concept to her. They were the reason her kind had almost been wiped out.
Her kin, the other phoenixes, had all suffered the same fate, not because they were weak, but because their enemies had found a way to bypass their immortality entirely.
They had been captured. Imprisoned. Held for a long time without any way to escape.
And eventually, their captors discovered how to harm their souls. Once that happened, it was over.
They’d also drop an extremely rare material that boost immortality upon death.
That was also the same method the [Imperial Guild] had been aiming to use when they tried to capture Celeste, planning to study her, experiment on her, and eventually break through her immortality the same way.
If Leon hadn’t interfered back then… She would have ended up just like the rest of her kin.
“Soul attacks are extremely rare at this point,” Leon continued, bringing the focus back to the present, “but eventually, some players manage to acquire abilities or items that allow them to use them.”
Even then, it wasn’t something that could be used freely.
Executing a soul attack required immense effort, draining the user significantly, sometimes to the point of complete exhaustion depending on the strength of the attack.
It wasn’t quite as extreme as using a [Forbidden Spell], but it was still something that couldn’t be spammed without consequences.
Leon already knew that if he had something like that, he could probably only use it once or twice in a critical situation before it started taking a toll on him.
Still… Even with that limitation, the value of such an ability was undeniable.
’Some of the gods are immortal, after all,’ Leon thought coldly.
“Can I… still have the spear?” Celeste asked after a brief pause, her voice softer now, almost hesitant, which was rare for her, “It feels way more important now.”
Leon looked at her for a second before smiling lightly.
“It’s yours,” he replied without hesitation, his tone firm but simple, “I was going to give it to you no matter what blessing it got.”
Celeste held his gaze for a moment before nodding.
Then she took the spear back into her hands, gripping it firmly as she spun it once, testing its balance, the faint crimson flame at its tip flickering as if responding to her.
With this weapon, she felt different. Stronger. Not just in raw power, but in confidence.
She now had something that could change the outcome of a fight in ways that very few others could.
Once that moment passed though, Leon didn’t let the atmosphere stay heavy for too long.
“It’s time,” he said, a small smile forming on his face as he shifted the focus forward.
Both Emilia and Celeste immediately understood what he meant.
Level 75. That was their next goal.
Without wasting time, the two of them moved closer, each placing a hand on Leon as he activated the [World Map] once again, teleporting all three of them back to the [Awakener Association].
Fwoosh!
In an instant, they reappeared inside the familiar building.
“We’ll spend the next few hours leveling up,” Leon said, his tone calm but decisive as he looked at both of them, “Once you hit level 75, just teleport to the [Expert Divine Temple] and wait there, we’ll meet up after.”
“Alright!” Celeste and Emilia both nodded at the same time, fully on board with the plan.
This time, things were different.
Unlike their previous runs, they weren’t going to enter a [Realm] together and try to find each other.
Instead, they would each focus on leveling at their own pace without looking for each other, before regrouping at the temple.
It was more efficient that way.
With that decided, the three of them headed deeper into the [Awakener Association], making their way toward the [Realm] section without any hesitation.
“We can go to the [Enchanted Forest],” Emilia suggested as they walked, a small smile on her face, “It’s a solid area, and if we pick the highest difficulty, the experience gain should be good enough.”
“Alright,” Leon nodded without questioning it, “Perhaps I’ll be able to get something there as well…”
They quickly arrived at the hall corresponding to that realm and entered the chamber where the portal stood.
The environment inside was partially transformed, thick dark grass covering the ground while a few scattered trees stood along the edges, faint traces of magic lingering in the air, giving the entire space an unnatural feel.
Just like the [Hellish Beach], this chamber served as a preview of what awaited them beyond the portal.
Without hesitation, the three of them stepped forward.
Ding!
—
[Select the “Enchanted Forest” realm’s difficulty:]
[Normal] [Hard] [Hell]
—
Leon didn’t even pause. He selected [Hell] immediately, his choice made without the slightest doubt.
Whatever this place had to offer, it couldn’t possibly be worse than the [Nightmare] difficulty of the [Hellish Beach].
The moment he confirmed it, the portal shifted.
Vines wrapped around its frame, dark energy seeping through as the entire structure grew more ominous.
And then, without waiting any longer, the three of them stepped through.
