Chapter 261: Chapter 261: The Mother’s Area [2]
Powerful Fireball!
While Godrick and Alicar turned around to deal with the spiders closing in from behind, Leon stepped forward without hesitation, lifting his staff as he gathered mana at its tip, then releasing the spell toward the thick layer of silk blocking their path.
BOOM!
The impact was immediate and effective, as flames spread across the surface of the silk and burned through it almost instantly, causing large portions of the webbing to shrivel, and disappear, opening up most of the street in front of them.
“Its weak to fire,” Violet murmured as she observed the result, her eyes narrowing slightly as she analyzed the reaction.
“Not just fire,” Leon replied calmly as he lowered his staff, glancing at the remaining strands that still clung to the walls, “Anything that can break it works, strong enough force, heat, shockwaves… it all does the job.”
“Well…” Violet let out a faint smile, something rare for her, as she stepped forward, “Then I guess I don’t need to hold back here.”
Once the group finished dealing with the remaining spiders behind them, clearing the area entirely, they advanced forward into the now-open street, stepping over burned remnants of silk and scattered debris as they moved deeper into the [Mother’s Area].
Leon instinctively began to lift his staff again, preparing another fireball to clear whatever came next, but before he could cast it, Violet raised her arm slightly, stopping him.
“Oh?” Leon turned his head toward her, lowering his staff just a bit, “You’ve got something better?”
Violet let out a quiet sigh, almost as if the answer was obvious.
“I’m a dragon, Leon,” she said, her tone calm but slightly amused, “What do you think dragons are known for?”
Leon didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. Instead, he simply watched.
Violet stepped forward, planting her feet firmly as a faint aura began to gather around her, her chest rising slightly as energy condensed near her mouth, forming into a swirling mass of multicolored flames that flickered with immense intensity.
The temperature in the area rose almost instantly.
Then—
Draconic Flames!
She exhaled.
A massive wave of fire erupted from her mouth, spreading across the entire street in front of them, engulfing everything in its path as the flames tore through the silk like it didn’t exist, burning it away completely while also incinerating anything hidden within it.
One of the spiders that had been lurking behind a thick layer of webbing was caught in the attack, letting out a sharp screech as it was instantly consumed by the flames, unable to resist even for a moment.
Leon felt the heat from where he stood, his expression tightening slightly as he realized just how powerful that attack was.
He definitely didn’t want to be anywhere near that.
“People from Eternal-Level worlds really are something else,” Alicar said with a grin, shaking his head slightly as he watched the aftermath, “I come from a High-Level one, but even then… the difference is ridiculous.”
“…You’re still here though,” Leon replied with a small shrug, “Plenty of people never even make it this far.”
“Hm…” Alicar rubbed his chin thoughtfully, “That’s true, but I still think there’s more to this than we understand, just like the first [God-Rank] assessment, there are probably others out there.”
Leon glanced at him briefly.
By that he meant that there were other assessments happening at this moment, with other players.
“Who knows,” he muttered.
The fact he went on his entire past life without knowing any of this was concerning. Just how much more didn’t he know?
The answer was probably a lot, though Leon didn’t plan to stay ignorant forever.
The thought lingered in his mind longer than he expected, because if there really were hundreds of others attempting this same path, many of them from stronger worlds than his own, then one question remained.
Where were they? Why hadn’t any of them reached the end and became gods?
Either some had succeeded and he simply didn’t know about them…
Or it was simply so difficult to actually complete the future assessments that either people decided to give up, or they died trying and faced the “punishment” of failure.
The [Forsaken City] was only the second [God-Rank] assessment after all, there were bound to be more, possibly in the [Eternal Battlefield].
“Alright,” Violet said, pulling him out of his thoughts as she looked ahead, her expression sharpening once again, “Let’s keep moving, we’re making good progress.”
The group continued forward, navigating through the streets while occasionally checking Oasis’ holographic map to stay on course and adjust their path when needed.
“Do you know exactly where the [Mother] is?” Leon asked after a while, his gaze scanning the surroundings, “I doubt something like that would just be out in the open.”
“We’re close,” Violet replied without hesitation, “I’ve scouted this area from above before.”
Leon’s eyes lit up slightly at that.
’So she really does have wings,’ he thought, a faint sense of confirmation settling in, ’Just hiding them.’
It made sense. They would draw too much attention otherwise.
The wings remained hidden for now, unlike her tail, which swayed subtly behind her
With Violet taking the lead in clearing the silk using her flames, Leon once again fell back into a passive role, letting the others handle the fights while he observed and conserved his strength.
As they advanced deeper, the enemies began to change.
—
[Spider of Darkness (Mutated)]
[Level: 75]
[Exclusive Talent: Darkness Weaver (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: 1,450,000]
[Details: One out of every 1,000 spiders birthed by the Mother has a slightly better affinity to darkness.]
—
The mutated spider stood out immediately, its presence far more oppressive than the others, its aura thicker, heavier, and its movements sharper.
Even Leon wasn’t confident he could take it down alone, even with [Celestial’s Might] active.
And yet—
“Weak,” Violet muttered under her breath.
Before the spider could even react, she vanished. A flash of movement.
Then—
Slash!
Her rapier pierced straight through its body, ending its life instantly as she pulled the weapon back without slowing down, the spider collapsing before it could even fight back.
Leon blinked once, then looked at the others.
“…Couldn’t she just do this entire expedition alone?” he asked honestly, “I don’t see how these things are supposed to stop her.”
“The [Mother] is different,” Alicar replied, his tone serious now, “Even Violet wouldn’t be able to handle it alone, that’s why we’re here.”
Leon nodded slightly.
If everything here was just like the regular spiders, then there wouldn’t be any need for a group.
And yet they had gathered five strong players.
Which meant the final fight would be on another level entirely.
Time passed. More spiders appeared. More mutated ones mixed in.
And the group kept advancing, cutting through everything in their path without slowing down, their movements becoming more coordinated as they pushed deeper into the zone.
Almost an hour went by like that.
Until finally—
“This is it,” Violet said as they stepped into a wide clearing, her voice lowering slightly as she took in the sight before them, “The last stretch.”
The area was completely different from the streets.
It was open, and entirely covered in layers upon layers of dark silk, stretching across the ground, the walls, and even parts of the sky above, creating a suffocating environment that felt alive.
And everywhere they looked, there were spiders. Hundreds of them.
At the very center of the clearing stood something larger, one that immediately threw their attention: the [Dark Silk Spider].
SKREEEE!
It let out a piercing screech, raising its front legs as its aura flared, and the moment it did, every single spider in the area reacted, their bodies tensing as they prepared to attack all at once.
Leon’s eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the scene, his grip tightening just a bit.
’Yeah…’ he thought, his expression calm despite the overwhelming number of enemies ahead, ’I’m not killing anything here.’
’Guess my job… is just to survive.’
