- Chapter 295: SSS-Level Essence of Darkness Sub-Talent

Leon stood alone inside the massive [Colosseum of Ascension], the ancient structure now far quieter than before after all the others had already left through the portal.
The countless stars surrounding the colosseum still floated in the endless darkness beyond the pillars, each one representing a god or an entity close to their level, and even after everything Leon had gone through today, simply looking at them still sent a strange pressure through his body.
But Leon quickly pushed those thoughts aside. Right now, there was something far more important waiting for him.
Fwoosh!
Leon opened his [Storage Space], and after searching through it for a few seconds, he finally pulled out the SS-Level [Monarch of Darkness] sub-talent scroll.
The moment it appeared in his hand, a dark aura immediately spread around it.
Black mist leaked from the ancient scroll while strange runes faintly glowed across its surface, making it obvious that the power sealed inside was extraordinary.
Leon stared at it quietly for a few moments while sensing the darkness hidden within the scroll react to his own aura.
The power inside the scroll almost felt alive. And yet, Leon already knew exactly what he wanted to do with it.
After all, he already possessed the [Monarch of Darkness] sub-talent himself.
If he successfully fused this scroll with his own sub-talent, then it would evolve into an SSS-Level sub-talent.
Even Leon himself wasn’t entirely sure what kind of absurd power that would create.
The most obvious effect would be the insane boost to all his darkness-related abilities.
Skills like [Shadow Bullets], [Dark Crescent Slash], [Mega Darkness Barrier], and [Abyssal Slash] would all become drastically stronger once fueled by an SSS-Level darkness sub-talent.
The difference between SS-Level and SSS-Level was beyond massive.
It wasn’t a simple increase in power anymore. It was the kind of gap that completely changed battles.
If someone possessing an SSS-Level darkness sub-talent fought the [Forsaken King], whose own darkness talent only reached SS-Level, then the king would stand absolutely no chance even with a big combat power difference.
That was simply how overwhelming higher-ranked talents became.
But as always, there was still one enormous problem: luck.
Leon only had a 0.01% chance of successfully fusing the two sub-talents together.
The odds were so ridiculously low that attempting it normally would basically amount to throwing the precious scroll away for no reason.
Unless… A grin slowly appeared on Leon’s face.
Fwoosh!
He immediately searched through his [Storage Space] once more before his eyes suddenly landed on a specific item hidden deep inside.
And the moment he saw it, his grin widened even further.
“After all this time,” Leon muttered while chuckling softly, “you’re finally getting used.”
Then he pulled the item out.
In his other hand appeared the [Enhancement Frenzy Liquid] he had obtained after clearing the [Elemental Temple] during his second assessment.
The golden syringe shimmered faintly beneath the dim light of the colosseum while the liquid inside almost looked alive.
[Enhancement Frenzy Liquid (Ancient): Injecting this liquid guarantees the success of the next enhancement. (3/3 uses remaining)]
“Heh,” Leon grinned. “Perfect.”
Without wasting another second, Leon pushed the syringe directly into his arm.
The needle pierced his skin deeply before around one-third of the glowing golden liquid was injected into his body.
Immediately, Leon felt a warm sensation spread throughout him.
Ding!
[You have used “Enhancement Frenzy Liquid (2/3 uses remaining)” on yourself.]
[Your next enhancement is guaranteed to succeed.]
The moment Leon saw the notification, he immediately acted.
Mana surged from his body and poured directly into the [Monarch of Darkness] scroll.
The ancient scroll quickly began dissolving into black particles before those particles flowed directly into Leon’s body.
Then a dark panel appeared before him.
Ding!
[You have attempted to fuse the SS-Level “Monarch of Darkness” sub-talent with your own.]
[Enhancement failed…]
“What?”
Leon stared at the panel blankly for half a second before a golden aura suddenly erupted from his body.
[…However, the effect of the “Enhancement Frenzy Liquid” has overridden the failure.]
[Enhancement forced successfully.]
“Phew.”
Another notification immediately appeared afterward.
Ding!
[You have evolved “Monarch of Darkness (SS-Level)” into “Essence of Darkness (SSS-Level)”]
[Your darkness sub-talent has reached its maximum potential. Only the God of Darkness may push this power even further.]
At first, Leon felt extremely satisfied after seeing the successful evolution.
But as his eyes lingered on the second message, a thoughtful expression slowly appeared on his face.
’Yeah… there’s no way the actual [God of Darkness] only has an SSS-Level sub-talent,’ Leon thought.
He wasn’t naïve enough to believe the gods followed the exact same rules as ordinary beings.
If anything, they probably possessed powers that completely surpassed normal rankings.
A God-Rank talent perhaps. Or something of that level at least.
The more Leon thought about it, the more he realized how many advantages the gods likely possessed compared to ordinary players.
Still, there was no point dwelling on that now. He had his own path to follow.
And then—
BOOM!
Leon suddenly felt an explosion erupt directly inside his chest.
More precisely… inside his soul. His body trembled violently as dark energy surged throughout him.
It wasn’t nearly as painful as the evolution of some of his previous sub-talents, but Leon could still clearly feel the change taking place.
Dark tendrils slowly formed throughout his soul itself rather than across his physical body this time.
The very essence of his existence was being fused with darkness.
Leon could feel it clearly. The darkness no longer simply obeyed him. It had become part of him.
’I seriously wish I could actually see my soul right now,’ Leon thought with amusement.
Then the description of his evolved sub-talent appeared before him.
[Essence of Darkness (SSS-Level): You are darkness itself, and you shall receive every benefit it offers while inside it. All shadow-related attacks deal no damage to you.]
[There may exist a way to evolve this sub-talent even further, though you currently lack the ability to do so.]
Leon slowly read through the description before nodding in satisfaction.
Ironically, this was one of the shortest sub-talent descriptions he had ever seen. Yet it also conveyed the most.
’Every benefit while inside darkness… and complete immunity to shadow attacks,’ Leon thought while grinning slightly.
That meant even if he removed the [Divine Armor] someday, he would still remain immune to darkness-based attacks entirely.
The only thing he would lose would be the light immunity granted by the armor’s blessing.
Overall, the improvement was absurd.
Once Leon finished checking the sub-talent, he finally looked toward the portal waiting nearby.
Fwoosh!
Without hesitation, Leon stepped through it. For now, he was leaving the [Colosseum of Ascension].
But eventually… He would return.
Ding!
[Transporting player to the “Expert Divine Temple”]
Moments later, Leon reappeared inside the enormous hall of the [Expert Divine Temple], right near the gigantic gates where players entered and exited God-Rank Assessments.
The familiar divine aura surrounding the temple immediately washed over him. And the first thing Leon heard after arriving was a familiar voice.
“I guess it really didn’t take long for us to meet again.”
Leon turned around. Standing nearby was Violet.
She looked far calmer now compared to earlier, though the faint smile on her face remained as cold and elegant as always.
“The others already left,” she explained while walking closer. “Though they asked me to tell you good luck with whatever insane thing you’re planning next.”
“Thanks,” Leon grinned casually. “Though honestly, I don’t really lack luck.”
“I noticed,” Violet laughed softly before tapping something in the air with her finger.
And immediately afterward—
Ding!
[You have received a friend request from “RainbowDragon”]
“Oh?”
