- Chapter 309: The Mutated Exiled Sentinel, The Exiled Mountains

BOOM!
A massive explosion suddenly erupted above the group.
Leon’s eyes widened as a gigantic armored figure crashed down from the mountainside while wielding two enormous blades.
SLASH!
The creature spun violently midair and instantly sliced through five of Leon’s skeletons in a single attack before landing heavily on the ground.
The impact alone shattered the nearby stone.
“Damn,” Leon muttered while stepping backward. A panel immediately appeared before him.
—
[Exiled Sentinel (Mutated)]
[Level: 85]
[Exclusive Sub-Talent: Exiled]
[Combat Power: 2,850,000]
[Details: A sentinel that has evolved after learning how to use two blades, it has obtained more strength.]
—
Unlike the other sentinels, this one moved with actual skill.
It wasn’t just blindly swinging. Its footwork was precise. Its attacks were coordinated. And its combat power was noticeably higher.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Leon’s remaining skeletons immediately surrounded the mutated sentinel and attacked from every direction at once.
Yet surprisingly… The creature actually held its ground.
Its two massive swords swung repeatedly in wide arcs while it dodged several incoming attacks and countered aggressively, cutting down skeleton after skeleton.
Leon watched carefully while analyzing the fight.
His skeletons possessed overwhelming combat power, yes. But that was mostly all they had.
They lacked real intelligence. They had no proper combat techniques. No advanced skills. No experience.
They simply attacked using raw force. Meanwhile, this mutated sentinel actually knew how to fight. And that difference was enough to let it survive against multiple skeletons simultaneously.
Leon sighed.
“Alright,” he muttered while watching another skeleton lose its head, “I think that’s enough.”
Fwoosh!
Leon instantly dashed forward. His speed exploded outward like a bullet.
Before the mutated sentinel could even react, Leon appeared directly in front of it and swung his sword casually.
Slash!
The sentinel froze. Then its entire upper body slowly slid apart before crashing onto the ground in two separate halves. Dead instantly.
Leon didn’t even use a skill. The difference in raw strength alone was overwhelming enough.
He looked toward his remaining skeletons afterward.
“You guys probably won’t handle the stronger enemies ahead,” he admitted honestly. “From now on, focus entirely on protecting Celeste’s flame while I deal with the fights myself.”
The skeletons obeyed immediately. They gathered tightly around the undead holding the phoenix flame, forming a protective circle around it.
Only then did Leon finally inspect the new rewards.
[Mutated Exiled Sentinel Essence: Consuming will increase Strength by 110 and reduce Spirit by 15.]
Without hesitation, Leon consumed it immediately, and with all the essences he had consumed overall, he gained the following:
Ding!
[+3,750 Strength, +800 Agility, -345 Spirit.]
Leon grinned. Despite the Spirit reduction, his overall gains were monstrous.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Leon had leveled up once from all the monsters.
Ding!
[Congratulations! You have leveled up to Level 77.]
[All your attributes have increased by 450 and you have gained 450 free attribute points.]
The level up restored far more Spirit than he had lost anyway, making the drawback feel almost meaningless.
As for the remaining loot, it consisted mostly of monster materials and equipment, none of which interested him much.
So Leon simply stored everything and continued deeper into the [Exiled Lands].
The gray environment slowly began changing around him. The dead plains started becoming steeper.
Massive cliffs appeared. Cold winds howled through narrow rocky paths.
And eventually… Leon finally reached the giant mountains he had seen from the distance.
Ding!
[You have reached the “Exiled Mountains”]
[The “Magicless Core” awaits inside of a temple inside one of the mountains, good luck.]
“…Of course it does,” Leon sighed.
Nothing could ever be simple. Still, he wasn’t too worried yet.
The [Awakener Lord] clearly wanted to challenge him, but based on everything Leon had seen so far, the enemies here were still manageable.
At least for now. Leon climbed one of the mountains carefully until he finally reached the very top.
Then he looked ahead. And immediately regretted everything.
“Oh god,” Leon muttered slowly, “You have to be kidding me.”
Stretching endlessly before him was an absolute nightmare.
Dozens. No. Hundreds of massive mountains spread across the horizon in every direction, all connected through narrow stone paths, hanging bridges, dangerous cliffs, and winding trails.
The entire region was basically a gigantic maze.
And somewhere inside this monstrous labyrinth… Was the temple containing the [Magicless Core].
Leon stared silently for several seconds.
“…Yeah, this is gonna take a while.”
Luckily, based on the system panel, the core was only located in the first major region of the [Exiled Lands], meaning the [Awakener Lord] wasn’t trying to completely kill him.
At least not yet. Still, for a normal level 75 player, this place would already feel impossible.
The monsters alone were horrifying. And the mountain maze only made things worse.
Leon exhaled slowly before raising his staff.
Fwoosh!
He pointed it toward the countless mountains ahead. Then he looked toward his undead army.
“Explore the entire area,” Leon ordered calmly. “The moment any of you finds anything suspicious, come back immediately.”
The skeletons nodded obediently. Then one after another, they split apart and rushed toward different mountain paths at incredible speed.
Only one skeleton remained beside Leon. The one holding Celeste’s phoenix flame carefully in its hands.
Leon watched the undead disappear into the endless mountain labyrinth while the cold wind blew through the cliffs around him.
No matter what happened… He was going to finish this special test as quickly as possible.
Leon sat down near the edge of the mountain path, while the dozens of skeletons he had summoned continued rushing through the gigantic maze of mountains in every direction possible.
Each undead moved through a different path, some climbing upward through narrow cliffs while others disappeared into the lower trails between the rocky passages, all of them searching for any sign of the temple containing the [Magicless Core].
Based on the sheer size of the [Exiled Mountains], Leon already knew this could take several hours, maybe even longer if the temple was hidden deep within the region.
Which meant that for now… He had time to relax a little.
Well, as much as someone trapped inside the [Exiled Lands] while carrying a phoenix flame and being hunted by the [Awakener Lord] could “relax.”
