Chapter 456:Another One
The cold night wind rushed past Ethan’s face as his figure shot over the walls of Frostvele.
The celebration behind him quickly faded into distant noise.
Ahead, the dark silhouette of the assassin moved across the snowy ground like a shadow fleeing under the moonlight.
The man was fast.
“That guy must be a Legendary Realm expert,” Ethan thought as the realization sent a cold chill through his spine.
And to add more to his horror, this guy decisively shivered his arms.
If that man had aimed for someone else inside the fortress instead of him, the result might have been disastrous.
Thankfully there was Kassandra to take care.
Shockingly he couldn’t detect the person.
“I need to do something about my senses…It has been quite useless in case of assassins.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes and pushed his body forward through the air.
That speed…
The assassin was already several hundred meters away, leaping across the frozen terrain outside the fortress. Each step carried him far across the snow, and he cleverly used rocks, broken ground, and shadows to break his trail.
Yet Ethan did not slow down.
His figure blurred again and appeared several meters ahead in a flash of movement.
The distance between them began shrinking.
Below them the frozen plains stretched endlessly. Snow crunched beneath the assassin’s boots as he ran toward the dark forest beyond the battlefield.
The same battlefield where demons had fallen only days ago.
The assassin glanced back briefly.
His eyes widened slightly when he saw Ethan closing the distance so quickly.
“Damn…” he muttered under his breath.
He pushed his body harder and suddenly jumped toward a line of shattered stone pillars left from an old watch post.
The moment he landed, his body twisted sharply and he vanished behind the ruins.
Ethan arrived seconds later.
He slowed slightly and landed on the frozen ground.
His boots sank slightly into the snow.
For a moment he did not move.
The wind moved quietly across the plain while broken stones cast long shadows under the moonlight.
Ethan’s eyes moved slowly across the surroundings.
Gone?
No…
His senses stretched outward carefully.
Something was wrong. He still could not clearly feel the assassin’s aura.
It was like trying to detect smoke in a storm.
Ethan frowned slightly.
“What is he using?” he thought.
A high level artifact perhaps.
That thought made his mind sharpen. If an assassin like this was using something powerful enough to hide his aura completely, then the person behind him was certainly not ordinary.
Even highly trained assassins leaked some amount of presence. But this man felt strangely empty.
Almost like he was not there at all.
Then Ethan noticed something.
A faint disturbance in the snow.
Very small.
Almost invisible.
A footprint half covered by drifting frost.
Ethan’s lips curved slightly.
“There you are,” he murmured quietly.
He stepped forward slowly instead of rushing.
The assassin had clearly hidden nearby.
Charging blindly would only give the man another chance to strike.
Ethan’s senses focused carefully.
One step.
Two.
Three.
Suddenly—
A flash of steel exploded from the darkness behind the broken stone boulders.
The assassin struck again.
The dagger moved toward Ethan’s neck with terrifying speed. But this time Ethan was ready.
His hand moved instantly.
CLANG!
His sword appeared from its sheath and blocked the blade inches from his throat. Sparks scattered into the night as metal clashed violently.
The assassin’s eyes widened.
Ethan stepped forward immediately and slammed his shoulder into the man’s chest.
BOOM!
The impact sent the attacker flying backward across the snow.
The assassin rolled violently across the frozen ground but quickly forced himself back to his feet.
For the first time Ethan saw him clearly.
The assassin wore dark armor designed for stealth, and a thin cloth mask covered most of his face. Only his sharp eyes were visible beneath the hood.
They stared at Ethan with cold determination.
Ethan tilted his head slightly.
“So you came all this way just to die?” he said calmly.
The assassin did not answer.
Instead he raised the dagger in his hand and attacked again.
The blade flashed forward.
Ethan shifted his body slightly and dodged the strike. At the same moment his fist shot forward like a cannon.
BOOM!
The punch landed directly into the assassin’s abdomen.
The man’s body bent violently from the impact, and a hoarse scream escaped his throat.
“AAAGHH!”
His body was about to be thrown away by the force of the blow, but Ethan moved faster.
He grabbed the assassin’s leg in midair.
With brutal strength Ethan swung the man downward.
CRASH!
The assassin’s body slammed violently into the frozen ground. Snow exploded into the air while cracks spread across the earth.
“Kyaaaaaa!”
The man screamed again as the impact rattled his bones and spurted blood from his lips.
Ethan did not stop.
He dragged the assassin across the ground and lifted him again like a rag doll. Then he smashed him down once more.
BOOOOM!
Another heavy crater formed in the frozen ground.
Blood spilled across the snow as the assassin’s body shook violently under the repeated blows.
05:53
Ethan lifted him again, preparing to slam him down one more time.
But suddenly his instincts screamed.
A sharp warning surged through his mind.
“BARRIER!” Ethan shouted instantly.
Several layers of magical barriers erupted around his body in an instant. Transparent shields formed one after another like overlapping walls of light.
But it was not enough.
An unknown attack struck them.
CRACK!
CRACK!
CRACK!
The first barrier shattered like glass.
CRASH!
The second one broke immediately afterward.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The remaining shields shattered one after another like a glass as the terrifying force tore through them effortlessly as something cut it apart.
The final shockwave slammed directly into Ethan who turned his body at the last moment while forming scales at his chest.
BOOOOM!
The impact exploded across the battlefield and threw Ethan backward across the frozen ground while shattered fragments of light scattered through the air like broken mirrors.
