Chapter 471: Persistence Efforts.
For a few seconds after the Direwolf suddenly stopped, the entire square remained frozen.
No one moved.
People stared at the giant beast sitting quietly in front of the frightened child. The boy was still sitting on the ground with wide eyes while trembling slightly.
Then the murmurs slowly began.
“What… what just happened?”
“That wolf was about to bite the child!”
“How did it stop like that?”
Several people wiped sweat from their foreheads while staring at the beast with lingering fear.
Some mothers quickly ran forward and pulled their children back into their arms. Others simply stared at the Direwolf with disbelief.
Meanwhile, the gentle flute melody continued drifting through the air.Everyone slowly turned their heads toward the direction of the sound.
From between the crowd, a man walked forward calmly while playing the flute.
His steps were slow and steady.
The flute remained near his lips while the melody continued flowing softly.
The crowd instinctively parted to give him space. The man walked straight toward the Direwolf.
Even Miranda watched him carefully now.
The man finally stopped in front of the giant beast.
The melody faded.
He lowered the flute slowly. Then he bent down and gently reached toward the Direwolf’s head.
His hand brushed against the thick fur behind the wolf’s ear.
The beast let out a soft sound and wagged its tail slightly like a large dog enjoying attention.
The man scratched its neck gently while smiling faintly. The wolf almost looked childish at that moment.
After a moment the man paused and lifted his head.
His gaze turned toward the tamer standing nearby.
“You should take it out carefully lest it harm others,” he said calmly.
The tamer hurried forward immediately.
He wiped the sweat from his forehead while nodding repeatedly.
“Yes… yes. Thank you.”
“I didn’t expect it to go wild like that all of a sudden.”
The man simply nodded once.
“Just tame it properly.”
The tamer quickly grabbed the wolf’s leash again and began guiding the animal away while the guards rushed forward to restore order in the square.
Several city guards arrived and started calming the crowd.
“Everyone step back.”
“Give them space.”
The small boy was quickly picked up by his parents while they thanked the guards and hurried away.
Meanwhile, the man quietly slipped through the crowd as if nothing had happened.
He began walking away from the square.
But just as he reached the edge of the street, someone stepped in front of him.
Miranda.
She stood there with her arms folded while looking directly at him.The man stopped.
He looked at her calmly for a moment.
Then he raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Pretty girl,” he said casually, “didn’t your parents tell you not to follow a stranger?”
Miranda ignored the comment.
Her eyes were focused on the flute still held in his hand.
“Teach me that,” she said directly.
The man tilted his head slightly.
“Teach what?” he asked while feigning ignorance.
Miranda pointed toward the flute.
“Teach me how you controlled the beast with that flute.”
The man shook his head lightly.
“You are mistaking something.”
“No,” Miranda replied firmly.
“I saw it clearly with my own eyes.”
“Your notes hit the beast and stopped it.”
The man studied her expression for a moment.
She did not look like she was joking.
He sighed softly and turned slightly as if preparing to leave.
“It was just a coincidence,” he said.
But Miranda quickly stepped forward and blocked his path again.
“I know what I saw.”
Her voice was serious now.
The man frowned slightly.
“You are being stubborn.”
Miranda suddenly bowed her head slightly.
The action surprised him.
“Please teach me,” she said quietly.
Her tone was no longer demanding.Instead it sounded sincere.
“I am serious.”
The man looked at her for a few seconds.Miranda raised her head again.
Her expression carried determination.
“I know I might be asking a lot,” she continued.
“But I really want to learn that.”
“I have never seen someone calm a beast like that before.”
The man crossed his arms slowly while studying her face.
“You are asking a stranger to teach you something without even knowing who he is,” he said.
Miranda shrugged slightly.
“You stopped a Direwolf from killing a child.”
“That’s enough for me.”
The man could not help letting out a quiet chuckle.
“You are quite straightforward.”
Miranda did not back down.
“I am serious.”
The man looked down at the flute in his hand for a moment.
Then he looked back at her again.
“You really want to learn that badly?” he asked.
Miranda nodded immediately.
“Yes.”
The man sighed quietly.
“You know,” he said slowly, “learning something like this is not simple.”
Miranda did not hesitate.
“I am not afraid of difficult things.”
The man watched her for another moment.
Then a faint smile appeared on his face.
“Well,” he said calmly, “that depends.”
Miranda blinked.
“Depends on what?”
The man lifted the flute slightly.
“Depends on whether you are actually capable of learning it.”
The man smiled slightly while looking at Miranda.”Not everyone can learn this just because they want to,” he said calmly.
“One needs to have a particular talent.”
He glanced briefly at Miranda’s clear eyes that were staring at him with determination.
For a moment he simply looked away and turned around as if to ignore her.But Miranda did not give up.
From that day onward, she began following him everywhere.
If he walked through the market, she was there behind him. If he stopped near the city gates, she stood nearby watching quietly. Even when he sat beside a quiet street corner playing his flute, Miranda remained not far away while observing him carefully.
“Father said persistent efforts lead to success..As his daughter, how can I give up easily.”
Day after day it continued.
Sometimes she tried speaking to him again. Sometimes she simply stayed silent and watched.
At first the man ignored her completely.
But after several days he finally sighed in frustration. One afternoon he stopped walking and suddenly turned around.
Miranda nearly bumped into him.
“Fine, little girl,” he said with clear irritation.
“If you can play a flute that satisfies me, then I am going to teach you.”
Miranda’s face lit up instantly.
“Really?”
