Reincarnated Hero System - Chapter 1255 - 1255: Blame the Transcendent

Evan possessing a vast array of skills was one of the most common pieces of information about him, and anyone could find that out with a bit of research into the documented battles Evan fought.
Many people had attributed this to his power as a Hero, to whatever Unique Series Skill he possessed as one, but no one actually knew what Evan’s Unique Series Skill did.
In fact, no one knew what the Unique Series Skills of any of the Heroes actually did.
Laurene and David were the only ones people had at least some idea about when it came to what their powers were.
For Laurene, it was because of her known Lie Detection ability, so people assumed her Skill was connected to this in some way.
For David, it was because of his very obvious trait of being unable to use magic and the fact that certain magic tools wouldn’t work on him, and sometimes magic simply didn’t function when he was nearby. Because of that, people concluded he likely had some kind of magic negation ability, though the specifics were still unknown.
‘Then is Evan Eris’s power his large skill capacity? No, that’s too simple for a Hero’s Unique Skill. Plus, he used my Dominator’s Decree skill on me.
Then… did he take the skill from me?’
Zara’s eyes widened as her thoughts reached that point, realisation appearing within them.
‘Could it be that Evan Eris’s power is the ability to take other people’s skills?’
The moment she held onto that idea, everything began to make sense.
Evan hadn’t hidden the fact that he possessed an Appraisal skill, and it was known that all Heroes had Appraisal skills.
With Appraisal, they could see what skills others possessed, so it was only natural that Evan could use his Appraisal skill on Zara to find out what skills she had.
And from there, if he had the ability to somehow use other people’s skills or take them from them, then it was possible he could have used it to obtain her Dominator’s Decree.
‘What are the conditions? Is it a one-time use? Does he keep it permanently? What exactly is the limit?’
All these thoughts swirled through Zara’s mind, and just then, the door to her room opened, and Evan stepped inside.
“Hello, Zara. Glad to see you’re awake,” Evan said as he closed the door behind him.
Right after he spoke, Zara sensed a skill activation from him, and then he continued, “Your condition seems stable enough, so I suppose we can get right down to business.”
Immediately, Zara narrowed her eyes.
‘Appraisal! I’m sure of it. He just used Appraisal on me now.’
Evan noticed the change in her expression, but he didn’t comment on it and continued speaking.
“Some things needed to be handled quickly so they could have the best effect, and first on the agenda is hiding the fact that I’m the one who killed the Artificial Divine Messenger that’s frozen outside.”
When Evan said that, Zara’s thoughts about his Unique Skill and how he had gotten Dominator’s Decree vanished from her mind.
“What?”
Seeing her reaction, Evan continued, “I don’t know if you noticed this, but aside from your minion, Varek, and Liz, there was no one else who saw me on that ship with you.
In other words, you’re the only one who knows for sure that I’m the one who killed that ADM. Well, Leoniel knows too.
But apart from the two of you, no one knows I killed that thing, and I’d like it to stay that way for a while.”
Zara took a moment to think through the situation after hearing that, and then she realised he was right.
The overwhelming pressure that the ADM gave off had caused almost all the crew members of her flagship to either lose consciousness or become disoriented.
None of them was in a proper state of mind to clearly register Evan’s presence, and Evan had only been on her flagship for less than a minute.
By the time they regained their awareness, the only people they would have seen were the injured Zara, Liz, and Varek.
So as things stood, there was no clear proof that Evan was the one who killed the ADM.
‘Come to think of it, he used red fire. He didn’t use the multi-coloured flames he’s known for.’
As Zara took note of that distinction, Evan continued speaking.
“I already have an alibi because while the ADM was being killed, I was on Solen, fighting against rampaging berserk monsters.”
Zara didn’t respond to Evan’s claim of having an alibi, but the doubt was visible in her eyes.
Noticing this, Evan placed his hands on the table opposite her bed where Leoniel had been sitting some hours ago, then activated Factor Mimic, and right before Zara’s eyes, a second Evan appeared from condensed magic power.
“You can clone yourself…!”
“It’s less of a clone and more of a Mimic, but yeah, let’s go with that,” Evan replied with a shrug.
“Anyways, while I was talking with you, this guy,” he continued, placing his hand on his Mimic’s shoulder, “was busy fighting monsters in Solen, and people saw him fighting monsters there, so as far as people are concerned, I was actually on Solen.”
Zara understood that Evan wanted to keep his power and his secrets hidden. But if that was the case, who would take the credit for slaying the ADM?
It definitely couldn’t be her. Everyone knew she didn’t use fire, or any weapons, much less swords, and the ADM had clearly been killed by a flaming slash.
She asked Evan this question, and he responded with a name she didn’t expect.
“Rathal.”
“Wait, what?”
Zara couldn’t hold back her reaction at the sudden mention of Rathal’s name, and Evan chuckled lightly at her surprise before speaking.
“Blame Rathal. Say that the ‘Strongest Human’ Rathal sensed the power of the ADM all the way from the Alpha Continent.”
He paused for a moment, then pointed toward the window and said, “Oh, wait, don’t call it Artificial Divine Messenger. Just say strange monster, or something like Skywhale. It was a whale in the sky, so Skywhale fits nicely.
But anyway, Rathal sensed it, rushed over, and killed it before it could cause more damage. It’s a nice tale, don’t you think?”
“Yes, it’s a nice tale, except for the part where you’re using a Transcendent’s name!” Zara immediately shot back.
If absolutely necessary, Zara could take the risk of provoking even Major World Power nations of Aidos, however, she couldn’t take the risk of provoking even one of the Transcendents because of how overwhelmingly powerful each of them was.
Even if it was to credit him with slaying a powerful monster, using Rathal’s name without permission was simply asking for trouble as far as she was concerned.
Evan, however, seemed to think the complete opposite.
“Don’t worry about it. Rathal’s a chill guy, so he wouldn’t really mind, even if he finds out.
And, considering Rathal is currently at the bottom of a dungeon I sent him to in the Dread Ocean’s islands, I don’t think he’s going to find out anytime soon.
If anything, by the time he’s done with that dungeon and comes out, I’ll probably have already revealed my power to the world, so it won’t really matter much.
At that point, I’ll own up and say it was a lie and that I was the one who actually killed the ADM. And besides, it won’t matter even if Rathal gets pissed.”
“It won’t matter…?” Zara muttered, her confusion plain to see.
She was about to speak in protest, but Evan cut her off as he spoke.
“Miss Zara, this is kind of a secret, but…”
He trailed off, and immediately, a barrier of magic power surrounded the room.
Zara noticed it right away and got off the bed, going on guard, but once again, Evan didn’t seem to care as he raised a finger to his lips and said,
“Don’t tell anyone, but your new ‘boss’ is actually a lot stronger than Rathal is.”
As he said that, he released his magic power suppression, the full force of his energy spreading out from his body.
“!”
Feeling the overwhelming power, the same power she had sensed in that instant when the ADM died, Zara was once again reminded of her earlier realisation that Evan was far more dangerous than the world believed him to be.
