Chapter 2009: Queen Yggdrasil
—–
The Queen herself had arrived. Her divine presence radiated life and brilliance like no other. Oberon, the King of Fairies whom she had created to become her husband and father her children, gasped as he gazed upon her divine beauty. He rarely had the chance to see her in this humanoid divine spirit form.
“It has been a long time since I last appeared like this in the Court,” she said. “I have spent most of my time growing and expanding my strength and influence in this new world, adapting to how the gods reshaped it and turning it to my advantage. Still, it is nice to see all of you again, my children. And you, my beloved.”
“My love… I am so honored to see you once more,” Oberon replied. He quickly stepped down from his throne. “Please sit. I shall kneel before your true radiance.”
“No need,” she smiled warmly and conjured a throne beside him. “This will do, my husband.”
Everyone fell silent after greeting her formally. Even the usually rude spirits, like Ifrit, instantly quieted.
This was because Queen Yggdrasil was the greatest divine goddess this world had ever birthed. She stood above all life and creation, the very apex of existence.
She was far more than a gigantic tree whose roots spread across continents. She was an entire living biosphere. Within her existed the DNA of every being that had ever lived in this world.
Even those who came from the stars had eventually been assimilated. Despite the gods terraforming her planet, she had adapted. She absorbed their creations, replicated them, and evolved alongside her enemies. Even now, they still struggled to overcome her and the planet itself.
The only one who might compare to her, and only in raw power, was the Dragon King, the Guardian of the planet alongside the First Demon King. He had created the strongest species on this world: dragons, the only race that could naturally develop divinity simply by aging.
In the past, her divine form had looked very different, back when the planet was far more alien. She had been darker in color, almost purple, and possessed many eyes. But through the eons, she had adapted to the flora brought by the fallen gods. She absorbed them into herself, slowly adjusting to the Spiritual Energy and Mana they had injected into the world.
Thanks to her incredible ability to evolve and adapt by assimilating life and DNA, she remained the greatest barrier preventing the gods from extracting the planet’s core.
She was the divine above all other divines.
“Queen Yggdrasil, Your Majesty,” Freyr spoke. “Mother…”
She nodded. “Speak, my beloved child.”
“We were discussing what to do with this unique child. I am fairly certain you interacted with her once, right?” Freyr asked.
“Yes, I spoke to her only once in a dream,” Yggdrasil replied. “It was a few years ago, when she was much smaller and weaker. Even so, I never expected her to evolve to this level, where she is now capable of birthing gods themselves.”
“From the divine signatures, she is also becoming a goddess herself, one unlike any we have seen before,” Freyja added. “This is the first time a child of the gods, a descendant of the slave races they placed on our planet’s surface, has begun to ascend to the divine level. However, the most surprising part is that she is not using their Evolution Method, in which the gods completely rewrite their own existences and discard their bodies. Instead, she is using a method similar to ours.”
“So she is ascending her spirit and soul while slowly evolving her body as it adapts,” Yggdrasil said. “That is a Divine Cultivation Method I only taught to my children and a few chosen ones. How could this child have discovered the Secret of Divine Evolution?”
“Apparently, she simply figured it out on her own,” Freyr replied. “We do not know how. Nobody has told her anything.”
“It might be connected to the Alien Spirit she was born with,” Freyja suggested.
“The Alien Spirit?” Ifrit wondered. “What is that?”
“She has an alien inside of her?”
“What does that mean?”
“I have never heard of this!”
“Is she a secret agent of the gods?!”
“Wait, we must stop her then!”
“Calm down. Silence,” Yggdrasil commanded, and everyone instantly fell quiet. “Do not jump to conclusions without proper evidence. Let Freyja finish. Go on, dear.”
“Yes, Mother,” Freyja nodded. “Freyr and I must be the only ones who felt it, because we are attuned to all spirits and know when one is born. Correct?”
“Indeed,” Freyr confirmed. “It happened over a decade ago. Something inside her soul was born, a spirit unlike any we had ever seen. Because it is somewhat merged with her soul and has formed a special type of familiar contract, we have been unable to see beyond the surface of her abilities.”
“However, roaming spirits have seen her,” Freyja continued. “She resembles a small pixie but can sometimes grow as large as a fairy. Her abilities are unknown, but she is a very unique being. She is formed entirely by Divine Runes of the highest level, mostly of the elements of Souls, Light, Life, and… a mysterious element we have never seen before.”
“An alien element that did not exist in this world until recently,” Freyr added. “We have also seen through the Saintess of Spirits that she shares this power with her friends, allowing them to evolve. This spirit can self-duplicate, create contracts, and fuse with the souls of those it binds. It grants them the Secret of Divine Evolution by default. In addition, they gain the ability to absorb energy when they slay foes and repurpose it to grow stronger through a method different from traditional cultivation.”
“Unbelievable. How can a living being of this caliber even exist?” one of the divine spirits asked.
“Why didn’t you two tell us before, great King and Queen of the Spirits?”
“We didn’t tell you because you would have made a fuss,” Freyr replied. “Nonetheless, Sylph is not a spy. She very much dislikes the gods above.”
“She is a kindhearted child,” Freyja said. “She only wants the best for her family… just like all of us do.”
Yggdrasil listened carefully and in silence until she decided to speak.
“I assigned her as a Yggdrasil Knight some time ago,” she explained. “Making her a member of the Order of Knights despite her young age must have been a great honor, especially with the abilities that come with the title now ingrained in her very being. Back then, she did not seem to dislike the idea. For now, let us not be hasty. We must simply observe and see how the world changes before making any drastic decisions. So be patient.”
“We will, thank you for your kind words, Mother,” Freyr said.
The meeting continued for a long time. Meanwhile, Sylphy, completely unaware of how deeply she was influencing the world, was having breakfast with her family and proudly bragging about completing all those dungeons.
