SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will - Chapter 334 The Battle's Climax [2]

Chapter 334 The Battle’s Climax [2]
But it was enough.
Moon threw himself onto Mirage’s back in one motion and Mirage was already moving before Moon’s weight had fully settled.
The turtle’s eyes snapped open after the flash bang. It roared, the sound shaking the dust off in the vicinity. Then, it swung one of its massive legs at the retreating horse.
The blow caught Mirage across the flank. The horse’s legs buckled and he was thrown sideways, Moon still clinging to his back. They hit the ground together and rolled, dirt and blood mixing in the ground beneath them.
Mirage lay on his side, his legs twitching, a pained neigh escaping his throat. The wound on his flank was deep and bleeding heavily.
Moon pressed both hands against the horse’s side. He cast [Minor Mend] first, feeling the torn muscle start to knit beneath his palms, then followed with [Purify] to provide extra healing. The combination would speed things up, but Mirage still needed time.
Time they didn’t have.
The turtle was already closing in, each step shook the ground beneath them.
Moon’s jaw clenched so hard his teeth made a grinding sound.
If those Awakeners hadn’t shown up, the fight would have been over by now. He had the turtle cornered, the shell was ready to break. Everything was falling into place. Then ten idiots walked into his battle, forced him to split his attention at the critical moment, and threw him into the worst possible position.
‘Hateful people.’
Moon stood up, his legs weren’t steady. His mana was scraping the bottom. But he positioned himself between Mirage and the approaching turtle, sword raised in front of him.
The blade was shaking in his grip.
Behind him, Mirage was struggling to get his legs underneath himself. Moon just needed to buy him a few more seconds.
The turtle didn’t slow down.
It swung its front legs and Moon met it with his sword. Steel clashed against the creature’s leg. For a brief instant the two forces pushed against each other.
Then Moon lost.
The impact tore through his guard and sent him tumbling across the ground like a ragdoll. He bounced once, twice, and skidded to a stop meters away, dirt packed into his wounds.
Moon cast [Minor Mend] on himself and summoned his potions from his storage ring. He downed two in a row, the liquid rushing down his throat. The worst of the damage stitched itself shut as his potion and healing skill overworked in unison.
Then, he saw the turtle turn its gaze away from him.
It wasn’t coming for Moon. It was heading straight for Mirage, who had just gotten to his feet on shaking legs.
Moon’s heart skipped a beat.
At a close range, one hit from the turtle would be devastating. Mirage was injured, slow, barely standing. He would be heavily injured by another blow like the last one.
Moon’s mind raced through every option he had. Every spell, every skill, every trick left in his arsenal. But killing the turtle was out of the question. His mana wasn’t close to enough to cast anything that would deal real damage.
He couldn’t stop it with an attack, nor could he kill it.
But he could make it choose…
His eyes hardened as lightning crackled across his forearms as he gathered what little mana he had left. A small [Lightning Raiju] formed between his hands. It was weaker than usual, barely half the strength of the ones he had cast before.
The turtle glanced back at him, its eyes were full of disdain. In its eyes, that tiny wolf wasn’t worth retreating into its shell for.
Then, without hesitating, Moon released the blue streak of lightning toward the crater.
Crackle!
The turtle’s disdain vanished instantly. Its eyes went wide as the blue wolf streaked toward the crater where the egg lay.
The creature abandoned Mirage mid-stride. It pivoted and threw itself toward the crater, chasing the lightning wolf that was closing in on its child.
Meanwhile, Moon was already running, he reached Mirage and threw himself onto his back, casting [Minor Mend] across the horse’s wounds as they moved.
“Hurry. Let’s get out of here before it comes back.”
Mirage didn’t hesitate. He broke into a gallop, his injured legs holding, putting distance between them and the jade turtle with every stride.
Behind them, just as the turtle reached the crater, the lightning wolf curved. It abandoned its path toward the egg and swung around, slamming into the turtle’s rushing body.
The turtle hadn’t expected it. The lightning tore into flesh instead of jade, and the creature’s legs buckled for a brief moment, but it stayed standing, in a good state overall.
But that didn’t matter, Moon and Mirage had already crossed a vast distance.
Moon looked over his shoulder. There was no sight of the turtle rushing towards them yet. His eyes then returned to their path, and two figures appeared just ahead of them.
Moon’s eyes burned as he prepared to pay them their due date. He reached into his storage ring and a bow alongside the quiver materialized in his hand.
He activated [Bullseye] and [Archery] simultaneously. His eyes locked onto the two fleeing figures. His breathing steadied for a single heartbeat.
He loosed two arrows in their direction.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The shafts flew through the air and struck both Awakeners square in the back. They dropped mid-stride, tumbling across the dirt.
Both respawned seconds later, gasping, stumbling to their feet.
By then it was too late to do anything. Mirage was already behind them.
The horse brought his hoof down on the first one’s skull without breaking stride. The man crumpled and didn’t get back up.
Moon leaned off Mirage’s back and drove his sword through the second one’s chest as they passed. The blade went in clean and came out red. The body slid off the steel and hit the ground behind them.
Both bodies lay motionless on the floor, neither re-spawned. The lives that Moon had lost just seconds ago had returned once again with interest.
