SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will - Chapter 358 Foolish Fresh Evolver

Chapter 358 Foolish Fresh Evolver
The man didn’t answer. His eyes had already closed, his head still resting against the stone wall. Whatever brief spark had driven him to speak was gone. He had retreated back into himself, shutting the door to his brain behind him.
Moon watched him for a few seconds, he could push harder, demand an answer. The man was weak enough that his pressure would probably crack him open. But Moon didn’t move. He wasn’t going to oppress a broken man.
There was still a chance that nobody had sent him at all. That he was just another lost soul rotting near the portal, and Moon’s brief emergence had stirred something in him long enough to string a few bitter words together before the emptiness swallowed him again.
Moon turned and walked away. Behind him, the man didn’t open his eyes.
Moon traversed the corridors he had memorized and soon arrived at the large chamber. The scene inside was split down the middle.
On one side, the broken ones sat in their usual spots. Silent, hollow, staring at nothing. On the other side, a group of Evolvers were gathered around a fire, laughing and talking loudly as they ate. Chunks of cooked beast meat were being passed around, and the mood was light.
“The hunt today was great. Did you see how that thing squealed when I hit it?”
“You? You ran behind me the entire time.”
“I was providing moral support!”
The contrast between the two groups couldn’t have been sharper. Amongst the lively crowd was Joseph, who spotted Moon almost immediately. His face lit up. “Moon?! You’re back already? Come dig in with us!” He waved him over enthusiastically.
“Thank you, but I already ate. I’ll head outside for now.” Moon shook his head calmly.
Joseph’s smile faltered. He set down his food and rose to his feet. “Oh, really? I’ll come with you then—”
“There’s no need. I’ll be fine on my own.”
“But it’s dangerous out there. You don’t know the—”
“It’s okay. I think I’m alright.” Moon’s tone was polite but firm. He wasn’t budging.
One of the men eating beside Joseph leaned back and looked Moon up and down.
“Just let the newbie go, Joseph. If the man wants to be beast food, who are we to stop him?”
Laughter erupted from the group.
“Maybe the spirits will send him back in one piece. You know, as a courtesy. Or he will become their slave, working for them if a cute spirit girl took fancy to his face.”
“Yeah, wrapped up nicely with a bow on top.”
“Give it two minutes before he comes sprinting back screaming for help.”
Another round of laughter.
Joseph frowned and waved them off. “Come on, guys. Don’t say that.”
“What? We’re just being honest. Every newbie thinks they’re different until the first beast knocks them on their ass.”
“Remember that guy from a few weeks ago? Lasted about thirty seconds before he came crawling back with his pants torn from the wind.”
“At least he came back. Most of them don’t.”
“True, haha.”
Moon didn’t react. He gave Joseph a short nod and turned toward the exit without another word.
Joseph stared at Moon’s back for a moment. Then he set his food down and went after him. “I’ll be back, guys.”
Behind him, the group watched him leave.
“There he goes again.”
“Joseph is way too nice for his own good.”
“One day that kindness is going to get him killed.”
“One day? I’m surprised it hasn’t already.”
Their voices carried down the corridor, fading with each step Joseph took. Moon felt the presence behind him before he heard the footsteps. He stopped and turned around, his eyes colder than usual.
“Do you need anything?”
Joseph froze mid-step. ‘It’s that damn look in his eyes again.’ The same one from before, the one that had pinned him in place like a nail driven through his shadow. It wasn’t killing intent. It was worse.
Joseph forced a casual, awkward smile. “Hey man, I can tell you’re really talented. I just don’t want you to venture into areas you’re not ready for, this place is unforgiving to those that don’t know it. That’s all.”
Moon didn’t blink. “You helped me when I first arrived here. I appreciate that. But don’t overstep your boundary. I’ve already told you I’ll be fine alone. I won’t repeat myself again. I don’t want you to follow me.”
The words landed like stones dropped into still water.
Joseph stood there, the smile slowly fading from his face. His mind was turning behind his eyes.
‘This kid. My act of kindness didn’t earn me a single inch into his circle. I wanted to do more, get closer, build trust. But pushing him right now isn’t the move. Not with those eyes looking at me like that.’
“Alright.” Joseph raised both hands slightly in surrender. “I won’t bother you about it again. I apologize if I overstepped. Do forgive me.”
Moon said nothing. He turned around and walked toward the exit of the chamber. Joseph watched him go. The man’s silhouette grew smaller as he disappeared into the narrow passage leading to the surface, and Joseph stood alone in the corridor long after the sound of footsteps had faded.
He let out a slow breath.
“What a terrifying kid. This will be more difficult than I expected.” He whispered, his voice barely audible to himself.
With this new, unexpected development, Joseph decided to head to his master. ‘I need to inform her before things get out of control.’
Meanwhile, Moon had just stepped out of the safe makeshift bunker of the Evolvers. The wind was just like last time, strong and unforgiving. Moon reached into his storage ring and took out his[ Zephyr Breaker] that he bought to counter this very wind that could send people to their death.
After wearing the jacket, the effects of the strong wind was reduced by a good portion. Moon was no longer as effected.
“I wonder what happens when someone jumps from here.” Moon muttered, looking at the edge of the floating island. Theoretically, people could jump from here, die upon landing and escape the hellish zone with the terrifying spirit pavilion.
But seeing how many people were still here till now, Moon knew that there must’ve been a reason why they were still stuck here.
‘I will ask later, but for now…it’s time to hunt some beasts.’
