SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will - Chapter 367 Fighting The Spirit [2]

Chapter 367 Fighting The Spirit [2]
Isabelle turned back toward the crater and raised her staff.
“You better make it count.”
Moon paused for a fraction of a second. The woman’s voice…something about it tugged at the edge of his memory, it was somehow familiar, he had heard it before, but he wasn’t able to place where.
But there was no time to dwell on that matter. The spirit was glaring at him with cold, burning hatred. Its grip on the dagger had perceptively tightened, and its body was coiling to strike.
“He’s coming!” Isabelle shouted.
She charged forward to meet the spirit head-on. Their weapons connected with a sharp cling that echoed across the vicinity. The spirit’s dagger caught the shaft of her staff, and for a brief moment they were locked together.
Then, the spirit twisted its wrist and shoved her back with a strong kick.
Isabelle flew backward, her feet leaving the ground entirely before she hit the dirt and tumbled several meters. She caught herself on one knee, coughing, her arms shaking from the impact.
“Damn it!” She spat blood to the side and forced herself upright. “I can’t hold it for long! Whatever you’re preparing, you better make it quick!”
Despite complaining, Isabelle charged right back into the fight.
Moon did not respond. His eyes were half closed, his focus turned entirely inward, pouring large ounces of the available mana into the crackling wolf forming between his hands. The Thunderclap Raiju grew denser with each passing second.
~Clash~
Isabelle met the spirit once again. This time she lasted a few seconds longer, deflecting two strikes before the third broke through her guard and sent her stumbling sideways. She recovered and swung wide, forcing the spirit to step back.
It was barely anything, a half-second of breathing room. But she used it to reset her stance and charge again.
~Clash~
The spirit’s blade found her shoulder. Blood trickled down her hands, but she gritted her teeth against the pain and drove the butt of her staff into the spirit’s ribs. The blow connected, but the spirit barely flinched. Moon’s wolf crackled with violent energy. “Move!” Moon shouted.
Isabelle didn’t need to be told twice. She disengaged from the spirit and threw herself to the side, putting as much distance as she could between herself and the target.
Moon released the Thunderclap Raiju.
The lightning wolf escaped from his hands and streaked across the clearing. It closed the gap in a few heartbeats, crackling with enough energy to split stone in its path without touching them.
The spirit did not dodge the attack, or retreat into a defensive stance or brace itself for impact. It did something neither of them expected—
It lunged after Isabelle.
Before she could get clear, the spirit caught her from behind and wrapped both arms around her torso, locking her in place. It pressed its body against her back, its chin resting beside her head, and stared directly at Moon with cold eyes that dared him to strike.
Moon understood the message immediately: ‘If you want to hit me, you have to hit her too.’
Moon cursed under his breath, as much as he wanted to wipe that smugness from its eyes, he couldn’t risk the life of a person that was helping him fight, he wasn’t that cruel. His hands moved instinctively, redirecting the Raiju upward at the last possible moment. The wolf shot past them, crackling inches above their heads, close enough to make both their hair stand on end before it arced skyward.
Isabelle thrashed against the spirit’s grip. “Let go of me! Let go, you filthy—”
The spirit ignored her completely. Its arms tightened, and its dagger found her side. The blade pressed into her body, drawing blood once again.
Moon’s jaw clenched, he was holding the Raiju in a wide orbit above the two, but every second of control drained his mana at a vicious rate. He could feel it bleeding out of him like water through a cracked vessel.
“Enough shouting!” Moon’s voice was sharp. “Do you have extra lives left? I can’t hold this spell for long!”
Isabelle’s struggling stopped. Her eyes shrank as she processed what he was asking her to do.
He was asking her to become the sacrificial lamb for real this time.
Her teeth ground together so hard the sound was audible. The spirit’s blade dug deeper into her side. Blood ran down her hip and soaked into the dirt.
“Just do it!” She screamed. “Kill this bastard with me! I have an extra life!”
Her voice cracked on the last word.
“But you better make that spirit regret it!”
Moon brought the Thunderclap Raiju down.
The wolf slammed into both of them at once. Lightning erupted across their bodies in a blinding flash, arcs of lightning tearing through flesh and armor indiscriminately. The spirit and Isabelle seized up simultaneously, their bodies locked rigid as the current ripped through them.
Isabelle lasted two seconds. Her body convulsed violently, her mouth open in a silent scream, before she disintegrated. [You have gained 1250 Lives]
Before she respawned, Moon used his wind element to cast a wind gush that pushed the Spirit away from its position. Moments later in the same spot, gasping for air, the attack was still very much memorable in her mind.
“Thank you,” She immediately thanked Moon as she created distance between herself and the convulsing spirit. Had Moon not pushed it, Isabelle would have also been struck by the lightning once more, transferring to her from the spirit.
The spirit convulsed for another full second after Isabelle re-spawned, lightning crawling across its skin in angry bursts. Then, with a violent shudder, it regained control over its body.
But it was already half ruined.
It doubled over and vomited a thick mouthful of blood onto the scorched ground. More blood seeped from its eyes, running down its cheeks in dark red streams. Its legs were shaking and he diamond on its forehead flickered weakly with a faint light.
The spirit’s life was approaching its end.
