Chapter 166: Spectral Punching Bag
Beginner Iron Grade Pranic Beast–Razor Rat!
Primary Nature–Shredded Lunge!
It allowed the Razor Rat to leap a distance of twenty metres, at the end of which it generates a bunch of messy wind blades to shred apart the enemy before it. Depending on its expertise, it could align these wind blades upon each other to form a solid wind blade.
Mature Razor Rats typically were capable of such. They were one of the four Pranic Beasts native to the Varahan Enclave and were one of the easiest Nature to wield for the Wean Clansmen.
“I picked it because it’s easy to use.” AuraBuntara said as she accompanied her brother towards the Academy situated towards the rear of Binkn Megacity. “Its capability to scale in power is pretty solid.”
“It’s just weak though.” Torq commented, “Even if you were to perfectly unleash its wind blade, it cannot harm us even in our human forms, much less once we transform.”
“Once I enter the Life Stage, my power of psychokinesis can stack. That will increase Shredden Lunge’s power. Not only can I instantly leap across large distances, my wind blade would be able to cut into Gold Grade Pranic Beasts.” She argued.
“Your defenses, upon entering the Life Stage…” Torq remained silent for a few seconds before continuing, “No matter how many Shredded Lunges you stack, they can never breach your durability.”
“You should choose a Gold Grade Nature at least.”
“The influence is crazy.” AuraBuntara grumbled, “Grandfather gave a Silver Grade Pranic Beast to consume. The moment I began nurturing its Tangible Nature, I felt like I had bottled myself up. My sense of laziness and apathy was growing like crazy, despite feeling an urge to bombard everyone I came across.”
“You ate a Centinger?” Torq guessed upon hearing about the influence issues she faced.
“How did you know?” AuraBuntara stared at him in shock.
“Those are the influence issues you’ll face due to a Centinger’s Nature.” Torq commented, “Grandfather’s books have detailed records about them.”
“I wonder how you can bear to read books.” AuraBuntara grumbled, “I rather consume everything using an Information Slip and call it a day.”
“That is a fair approach,” Torq nodded, “I rely on books because I surf through a variety of materials simultaneously to boost my understanding.”
Binkn Academy!
Decodus Trees had been grafted along their sides, to create a wall spanning a height of 400 metres. It served as the walls of the Academy, protecting it from assassins, since the Varahan Empire constantly dispatched people to kill the Wean Clan children, who were easier, less experienced targets.
There was a clearing of trees from the walls of the academy for two kilometres, enough for those posted guard on the walls to notice any incoming assassin well in advance.
Two kilometres of clearing was enough, since even a 10-Life Stage Free Human only had a Spirit Weapon range of 1.8 kilometres. The assassins won’t be able to reach the academy walls without exposing themselves.
There were a total of two entrances to the Academy, positioned on opposite ends. Each had a two-kilometre-long footpath meant for the students to walk across. The footpath was the only safe zone.
The grounds nearby had been installed with a variety of traps, meant to destroy any assassin that dared set foot. Even the assassins were forced to tread the footpath, which made monitoring extremely easy for the Wean Clan.
The moment the duo of Torq and AuraBuntara set foot on the footpath, he felt eyes on him, triggering his sense of hunger. Towards every ’gaze’ he felt, his stomach responded with a relative sense of hunger, which allowed him to gauge the strength of the other party.
The greater his hunger, the stronger the other party was. This hunger sense was what Torq had been training from the day he was born, for it allowed him to sense existences that were leagues stronger than him.
“If you want to stick to an Iron Grade Nature, then why don’t you pick a Bludder?” Torq asked, “Its attack is by far the strongest among Iron Grade and can even scale up to hurt Silver Grade Pranic Beasts.”
“Even our bodies can be wounded by a Bludder.”
“The Bludder’s Eddy Blade takes me six to eight seconds to activate.” AuraBuntara scowled, “Dawdling around for so long in a fight is asking to be beaten up.”
The Bludder’s Nature of Eddy Blade required 300 units of Prana to activate. Even for a Spectral Boar, gathering so much Prana needed some time without straining the blood vessels. There were Skills that could hasten the activation duration, but all of them placed strain on the body.
They weren’t suitable in the long run or in a prolonged battle. ’The Cooter Clan’s abilities are extremely cost-efficient in that regard. Very rarely do they run out of Prana in a battle.’
“I’m thinking, Brother.” AuraBuntara explained her reasoning, “Every Nature has its share of pros and cons. At the very least, I feel comfortable using Shredded Lunge.”
“Most of the Wean Clan heavily uses the same Nature.” She concluded, “I’m just following suit.”
’The Empyrean Boars and Boar Kings use Shredded Lunge because their set of abilities make that worth it.’ Torq thought with a sigh.
When either an Empyrean Boar or a Boar King use a Nature stored in their bodies, the respective Nature vanishes upon use. They accumulate Natures upon consuming a target, and upon using it, the said Nature vanishes.
Silver Grade Pranic Beasts and above were pretty rare and weren’t easy to hunt and consume. It was economical to rely on Iron Grade Pranic Beasts, who could mass reproduce thanks to their high fertility.
That’s why the Wean Clan reared nests of Iron Grade Pranic Beasts, and why they primarily relied on Shredded Lunge. It was available in excess and didn’t require much resources to grow Razor Rats.
Spectral Boars, on the other hand, nurtured their Tangible Nature, which didn’t vanish upon use. Hence, they could focus on getting the Nature of a Gold Grade Pranic Beast, which was significantly powerful.
“Why don’t we do this?” Torq pondered for a moment and then proposed a plan, “The Academy has a variety of Iron Grade Pranic Beast nests for our use. Once we go there, let us both consume the Pranic Beasts and collate the extent of influence we face from them.”
“That will allow us to understand which Natures are compatible with our body and mind.” He concluded, “If a higher Grade variant of these Natures exist, we will switch to them.”
“What do you say?” He asked her.
“Whatever you say, Brother.” AuraBuntara cared more about spending time with her brother than growing stronger. She bantered with him only for the love of the game. ’Hehe! This is fun.’
As the duo entered the Binkn Academy, many eyes fell upon them, primarily upon Torq, for he was the only student from the Academy that managed to have an audience with their Ancestor.
Hmph!
There was a grunt from afar, openly expressing discontent. Torq casually glanced in the respective direction and noticed an individual barely a few months younger than him glaring his way, ’He’s the Spectral Boar born right after me.’
’His presence is strong.’ He thought and watched the other party walk towards him, in large strides. ’Oh, he wants to fight, huh?’
Torq’s lips curled up ever so slightly, ’I was looking for a robust punching bag either way.’
